Even though my PC (that his videos immensely helped me build & select parts for) is only 2 years old and I'm not in the market for anything new anytime soon, I watch all his videos just because he's so enjoyable to listen to and energetic and upbeat, and he's got a pleasant conversational style of presentation. Nvidia needs gamers to buy their GPUs because gamer's test data and crash data is a big part of their research and development for drivers. AI and servers don't provide a wide range of test data like consumers who use multiple different configuations and gaming provides a huuuuge amount of data for research. So Nvidia can't afford to lose famer's test data.

I bought a 4080S now because I am not confident in the availability of the 5080 at (the probably hiked up) MSRP. Realistically it will probably be late February or March before you can get your hands on one easily. Also with Trump talking so much about tariffs, who know how that will affect the global market price of computer components when/if he implements them.

    • @benmuzz
      @benmuzz 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

Same. The 4080S is still a great card at a comparatively good price. Plus it sounds like the 5080 will still only have 16gb of VRAM, so even though it’ll be faster and have faster RAM than the 4080S, the 4080S will still last for years and years

Ok, to be brief, I'm thinking of going all in for a 5090. So should I grab an ATX 3.0 or 3.1 psu at 1200w or 1,500w now? Or wait to see if the 5090 will require something else based on its rumored 600w requirements? I mean the sales now are great, but I don't want to get something that won't work yet either.
My current gpu, isn't a 4000 series, so I don't have an ATX 3.0 requirement and just have an old school 850w psu.
Anyways, it's a Titan V, which is roughly akin to a 4060 in terms of specs, not counting that it has HBM2 Ram and not ddr6 which is actually a bit better than ddr6 but ludicrously more expensive, so it sometimes preforms closer to a 4070 but is limited to FSR, not DLSS. But anyways point being, upgrading to a 4070 super ti or 4080/4080s isn't a massive improvement for the price and the 4090s are gone... which is why I'm thinking, hell, just go all in for a 5090. Yeah pricey but I have months to save up and just paid off the car so all that money can go towards the top gpu for the next 2 years and which should last me many many more than that. Especially since Ive run into a lot more poorly optimized games like Plague Tale Requiem which just overheats my Titan V to crashing or Stray which apparently the architecture on the Titan V just gets confused with and crashes. But others like Space Marine 2 are perfectly fine, though I suspect as time goes on I'll run into more and more poorly optimized games that on paper I should be able to play but in reality can't. Plus, i want to grab ther 5090 asap before scalpers drive up the price, my mind set is get a founders edition day one and be done with it.
Oh, I did also get a 9800x3d too (upgraded from an I7-8700 non-k). So it will keep up with the 5090. I just need the X870e Nova to stop selling out in seconds to grab it too. Lol

For that GPU at that price I would wait yes. But I would ask yourself if you actually need that GPU or even the 5080 for that matter. I don't recommend that CPU no, its not enough of a performance gain over the 5600 for example to justify the price and it will bottleneck at the exact same level as the 5600 (7800XT or 4070). So if you want to stay on AM4 the top upgrade you can make is the 5700X3D. See our "Best GPU/CPU Combo 2024" video for lots more on this

On the nvidia side I don't expect any major uplifts, especially as we go down tiers. The one thing to note for amd is the next gen allegedly having "vastly improved RT performance" but no concrete numbers (kind of understandable) and no plans for a high end like 7900xt/xtx. And then, there's battlemage, nothing much for the upper end of hardware but apparently very budget friendly. I feel that it's relatively safe to buy a GPU now if you absolutely need to.

Purchased a few things already on sale including the 7900 XT that went on sale today for $635 for the Asrock white phantom.
Picked up that nice deal on the 7600 X with the free SSD as well, if you deduct the price of the SSD, that makes that processor only $130 which is absolutely insane.
Got the case as well sense it’s $99 after rebate with a $20 steam credit which is insane value.
The motherboard is out of stock, I know it’s overkill but he wants it purely for looks. Really any of the white ASrock boards but they’re all out of stock. And you he definitely wants it to be ASRock because otherwise you can’t control or sync the RGB of the GPU unless it’s a ASRock board according to what I found online.
Hoping for a good 27 inch OLED 1440p 240hz+ deal. There is that $400 AOC but trying to find one with the AMD freesync premium.
Still need to research for AIO that he likes the look of.

edit* I see you said to spend more on the GPU vs the CPU. I spent on the best cpu due to the games I play are CPU intensive, vs gpu intensive. also I should add in that money isnt necessarily the issue, its about having what I need and that is in stock and easily accessible. I can get a gigabyte 4080 super if they are good. I currently have a ventus 4060 with a 7700x and i havent had any issues with it, so thought id get a 4080, but saw that the 4070 ti super is 1/3 cheaper, so if they are comparable and cant tell much of a difference outside of testing then why not go for the 4070 ti super?

    • @PCBuilderChannel

With a 9800X3D the stronger GPU the better but I wouldn't personally buy a 4080 super right now with new gpus coming in 2025. Unless money really truly isn't an issue, then you can buy whatever you like now and replace it later if you like. The 7900XT which is actually more powerful than the 4070 ti super is $619 right now (linked in description) and would make a good placeholder under you get like a 5080 or 5090. Or the 4070 ti super is indeed a great card and better price to performance value than 4080 super

Is it even worth to upgrade from 3080ti now or in foreseeable future?
I see that 4080 super is only 35% performance increase on average. Another point is: even 4070ti super has higher performance than 3080ti (just a bit), but it has less chance overheating than 3080ti when allowing it to max out on TDP.

My gut feeling, which admittedly is completely pulled out of my arse, is that from that card I'd wait for the 50 series supers and some better value cards in that regard, or if you don't use 3D productivity software then consider AMD even. Surely the 3080Ti is still doing quite well with pretty much anything?
