This is probably the best trainz video I've ever seen. The camera angles and the challenger saving a train at the end is the icing on the cake. But I'm still extremely sad over the fact that 3975 pushed Amtrak F40PH's into the water. I still don't like 3975 after maybe 5 years when I saw it the first time. The rusty engine coming at you in the dark is HAUNTING! Great video Man. Keep up the good Work!

It couldn't save the Challenger anyway. An FEF cant pull a fully coaled and watered, fully operational, hanging off of a cliff Challenger. The FEF doesn't have enough horsepower. And the force of gravity on the Challenger sealed its fate anyway: the slightest pulling force from the train behind it and the coupler would break open.
this creeped me out so hard at 9:45 that i had to get my mind off of this xD but really a 9 or 10 yr old (for example) would probably have to hide somewhere because of this extremely nice horror vid... i give a farewell salute to 3979 and 3975...

Maybe the reason they didn’t come back sooner is because their tender hadn’t been destroyed yet due to it being forgotten on a siding or shed or whatever and it wasn’t until the tender was rusted or damaged enough for it to be considered destroyed.

CA Peninsula Railfan Productions because when a steamer dies, it’s tender goes too, whether physically still there or not, the tender is talked back to the yard and scrapped, because it would be not right to have the ghost steamer kill another engine because the other loco is using its tender, as for 3975, it may have died but it tender even though saved, would be the only salvageable part of 3975 itself

its been a while but I remember how much of a pain it was to get these two. I got it on an Italian Trainz forum actually, trainzitalia ? Unfortunately it looks like the forums migrated onto a new site and the link I used long ago is dead. If you look around with that name I think you'll be able to find something though. The Federation the first Challengers were built in 1936. The first 20 Big Boys was built in 1941 and 5 more were built in 1944. Challengers were built continually between 1936 and 1944 for a total of 105. Where your confusion might stem from is UP 3895 is a late run model built in 1943, after her new shed mate 4014 had been on the road two years. The Big Boys were meant specifically for The Wasatch Range, while Challengers ran all over UP's network hence why the Challengers were more numerous.
