This Situation For Amorim At Man Utd Is Bad, Really Bad

  • It's not a case of whether Ruben Amorim wants a new attacker any more.
Manchester United need, desperately need, a new goalscorer for Amorim on deadline day because what he's currently got. Boy, consistently scoring is a foreign language to them this season.
There's a few things I need to say about this United team, not just from what we saw against Palace but much more than that.

United need to find a short term solution on deadline day because we can't go into the second half of the season with Amad, Garnacho, Zirkzee and Hojlund as our only attacking options.

Ten Hag is available - he turned a team that won nothing for 6 years into a team that won 2 domestic cups. Did that with having to play 15 cb pairings last season. Do you seriously believe Amorim's tactics would better what he did if he had to deal with that many injuries when we are lining up like Southampton would do against Real Madrid playing Crystal Palace home
Im willing to bet this is the exact reason Ashworth left

We surely aren't thinking of sacking a manager who we forced to bring in midway through the season (was unbeaten at his previous club and top of UCL) and then expect him to ditch the formation which he was brought in to implement in the first place and then blame him when there was hardly any training period and again expect players from previous regime to blossom in a completely new system, that too when any signings aren't made for him. Ironic isn't it!?
I remember the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park and the last 2-1 loss away to West Ham, plethora of chances if anyone remembers. I never completely blamed ETH then but I feel more sorry for him, for Ole, for Jose too. I don't want to feel the same for Ruben. Back the manager no matter what. 1. "Season's gone already", our anthem every season.
      2. The toxicity revolving around Man Utd is not good for academy players.
      3. Players like Eriksen and Casemiro are overpaid to the point of not wanting to leave the club. (not their fault, anyway).
      4. Mismatches are too much at the club.
5.The people at the top know nothing about the game.
      6. Obsession with youth is an issue. A squad does not have to be filled with 20-year-olds (reason they paid 72m for a raw striker, in the name of Hojlund).
      7. Unfortunately, the managers are the ones to be blamed and sacked eventually.

    A Bit of Perspective Needed
It’s frustrating seeing so many fans criticize the current situation without fully understanding the context. The mess at Manchester United wasn’t created overnight, and it certainly wasn’t caused by Innos or Amorim. Let’s not forget, this team is still dealing with the fallout from years of abysmal decisions made by the Glazers and Arnold-two figures who, let’s be honest, have no football knowledge or understanding of what it takes to run a top club.
Now, Amorim and Innos are here, trying to fix a broken system, but it’s going to take time. How can anyone judge a manager in less than a year, especially when he’s been handed a squad that doesn’t suit his system? Amorim didn’t sign these players. He’s working with what he’s got, trying to implement his vision with individuals who might not fit that mold.
Let’s give the guy time, stop pointing fingers at new arrivals, and instead direct our frustrations at the people who truly caused this mess in the first place. Manchester United deserves better, but it won’t happen overnight. Patience is key.

Guys, pay attention to the goals Hojlund scored last season, take a look! Most of them, maybe 80% of the goals, he himself took the opportunity. As many know, he received VERY FEW assists. So, is the problem with the center forward or the rest of the team? Our biggest problem is in the middle. Bruno Fernandes is a "do-it-all". He plays 6, 8, 10, false 9 and yesterday he was next to the defenders. Bruno Fernandes needs to stay close to the area and we desperately need an elite 8 to help Ugarte. This doesn't mean that Hojlund is playing well, in fact, it seems that he has dropped in level.

However, he is only 21 years old, he is a kid and he is raw / immature in several technical and positioning aspects. Look at the top scorers in the Premier League, except for decidedly talented players like Haaland and Palmer, the rest are experienced strikers. Hojlund is not super talented nor experienced, therefore, there is no way to demand that kind of thing from him.

I decided to keep an eye on Dalot during different periods of the game, once for a full ten minute period, and guess what, I never once saw him doing anything whatsoever in terms of basic scanning. He just does not have it in his game. He is totally oblivious to what is going on around him.

I don't think it matters who we have up front really, it's not like we are creating lots of chances that are being missed. The problem is that we don't play to our foward's strength. Rasmus wants to use his incredible pace, so needs the ball slid through early, which we rarely do. Zirkzee wants lots of touches and runners off him, which is more inline with the way that we play, but often there is too much distance between him and the runners... I think even Kane would have struggled...

You ask what Amorim can do to help himself? First of all, I completely agree that we shouldn't play with full-backs in the wing-back positions when facing teams like Palace, Southampton, etc. The game simply becomes too slow and indirect. Plus, when we defend, we often end up in a 5-2-2-1 formation, leaving too much space centrally in midfield.
Maybe this issue resolves itself now that Dorgu hopefully is playing at left wing-back and hopefully Amad at right wing-back.
Secondly, I think Amorim should try to build some momentum for the players in their respective positions! There has been a lot of rotation from game to game, partly due to the tight match schedule but also because he seems to be searching for a lineup that works. Try playing with the same lineup for three games... See if there isn’t an improvement in defensive coordination, offensive movement patterns, etc.
Thirdly, use the players where they are best. Højlund should not play with his back to goal! That is not his strength. He should be making runs in behind-that's where he excels. If you want to play with a No. 9 as a link-up player, use Zirkzee!
Finally, our wingers simply need to pass the ball faster or put in early crosses instead of cutting inside every single time. Our strikers have nothing to work with in the box. To be fair, Garnacho has actually tried in the last couple of games, and he deserves credit for that. On the other hand, Amad has stopped passing the ball...
My suggested lineup: (Onana, Yoro, De Ligt, Maz, Dorgu, Ugarte, Bruno, Amad, Garnacho, Mainoo, Højlund.)
I wish all the best for Martinez and hope to see him back soon in the beautiful red jersey.

Unfortunately we don’t have the squad to play the football he wants. Personally I’m glad he’s persisting with the formation, as it’s going to be a rebuild and playing anything different will just be time wasted if we have to learn all over again in the summer. Too many of are fans are unrealistic and need to understand that we are rubbish and have been so far off title contenders for a long time. Give the manager the time he deserves to get the squad he wants and a pre season to really work with the players, then we can start to judge him. This could take a few years to get right. So be patient.

Regarding Martinez, I had written several times on Manchester United's official channel: he is one of the best defenders in the world, but he needs a backup of the same level. Hincapié from Leverkusen was speculated in the last summer market and is one of the best defenders in Europe, it would be an excellent deal for Ineos. In addition to him, there is Medina from Lens, an excellent player with the ball at his feet, both players are great fighters like all South Americans. Gonçalo Inácio from Sporting is another option, but due to the values speculated in the market (more than 50 million), he is much more expensive than the others mentioned.
Leaving the left and going to the right, Evans and Lindelof will leave in June, so we need a backup for them. The first name that comes to mind is Simakan who is in Arabia. He is a force of nature, an extremely fast defender and excellent for the high line. If the idea is a defender for a low block, Nathan Collins from Brentford, pay attention to him. Murillo from Forest is a monster in defense and will probably receive a proposal from a big club in the summer, maybe Liverpool wants to find a replacement for Virgil. Anyway... any of these players mentioned would be an excellent opportunity.

I think that this is a hard reboot. I think we need to accept that. We need to focus on a cup and not getting relegated. Let Amorim learn what he actually has and figure out he needs. He came in halfway through the season, picking up the pieces of a disastrous Ten Hag tenure with terrible purchases, awful contracts, and no money. We have outdated facilities after the club was leveraged to the hilt by the Glazers, and although Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not the most popular person in Manchester at the moment, money has to be made in order to allow the club to make enough money to compete in FFP. I do think INEOS has the best intentions for the club, but I also feel as though they don't always communicate that to the fan base that well. Utd had a lot of deadwood on its books, like bad contracts, and my conclusion is that when INEOS came in and looked at the books, they realized the club was hemorrhaging money. Yes, some of the things that have happened could have been done better, but it's almost like ripping a bandaid off at this point, the faster the better. The transition wasn't perfect, but we have to recognize where we are at the moment. Realistically, how many players are TRULY worthy of wearing the shirt? How many players would make the team of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern? I almost threw up when I wrote that, it makes me feel sick. It is going to take time, let's just focus on not getting relegated and maybe a cup. Then, in the summer, we can look at making serious additions. Remember, $40 million from Rashford sale is considered pure profit and will GREATLY improve our summer financial window.

I believe issue is not with the strikers but the playmakers. We need to have some genuine midfielders who can pass, make space and receive the pass. All of our possession is in the defence currently while football is best played in midfield. After scholes and Kean partnership, I have not seen any genuine midfield partnership or not even a genuine midfielder except Carrick. So I believe problem here is in the midfield and creativity. Furthermore, it seems like there are no genuine connections between the players as well. Mostly individual brilliance is seen from players to win matches and it's rare as well throughout the season. No real intent of attacking and threatening the opposition. It's quite sickening that it's been more than 10 years and we are at square 1.

I think they have no option now but to give Chido Obi-Martin a chance. He's a natural goal scorer and right now we have nothing else so give the kid a go.

They dont pass to the strikers. It was a miracle that CR7 was 2nd in scoring in the EPL with a lack of service.

Didn't Dalot destroy it against Liverpool playing LWB? It's as Amorim and Martinez described, not a talent issue, a mentality issue.

We are not creating enough chances for our strikers hence why we are seeing this drought of goals .Even if we sign Haarland we will still have the same issues of not scoring

I dont understand how people arent excited about Tel if he comes permanently. He's got something and only 19! Im buzzing lol. Obi Martin and Heaven need a chance. They could grow so much in a side that's struggling like this. It would set them up for a huge europe free season next year, lots of training and less games etc.

The sad reality is that we will be lucky to see him again before christmas.
For a fine player with a history of injuries at around 28 when he's fit again his future as a long term main centre back is over.
He may very well get injured again and we cannot afford any more regular injury concerns, football is too competetive.

As bad as Hojlund and Zirkzee have been, I don't completely blame them for their lack of goals.
We aren't making nearly enough chances for the strikers, which is partly down to Amorim playing Dalot and Mazraoui as the wing-backs, rather than playing our proper wingers in the roles.
You can try to argue that would have made us vulnerable in defence, but we've been losing games anyway, so clearly Dalot and Mazraoui aren't helping with that anyway 😂 at least with playing Amad, Garnacho, and even (before they left) Antony and Rashford in the roles, we would certainly be better going forward, and make more chances for the strikers.

Another thing I don't think most Utd fans realize is that Amorim DOES KNOW what he is doing and what he wants. He has a very definite vision of the team he wants, how he will get them to play like that and he can see their success in his mind. And I’m sure you have noticed how all the signings that have been made WHILE Amorim was already in as head coach are academy or young players?! Do you know why?! Very simple. He wants malleable young minds that are hungry to learn, hungry to prove themselves, hungry to run their legs off until they puke, hungry to show they are the best. It's VERY hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and this system of Amorim’s requires new tricks to be learned. Only a few positions are somewhat close to what they are used too: the two holding MF's and the 3 CB's is pretty easy for them to pick up. But the striker, the 2 no 10's and the WB roles are much more difficult to understand and perform how Amorim needs and wants. The players are not used to this and it's proving difficult for them to learn. And that is why you see ALL young players being brought in right now, while Amorim is the head coach. Wilcox and Amorim know they need a team full of young malleable minds to make this work. And it's GOING to take time. You HAVE to be patient. Just realize this season is over. It's a bust. Just forget about so and so player coming in to “SAVE” the season and realize that next season is when things really start. Again, they probably will still struggle at times next year. But things are going to start getting better in the second half of this season and the offseason. And especially next year, when at least half of the team will be “Amorim” players.
Having said all of that, Utd will rue the day they missed their golden opportunity to sign Mathys Tel!
Utd completely and utterly dropped the ball with Tel! All reports saying Tel is going out on a loan now to Tottenham!??! WHAT?!?!?! Which makes NO SENSE! Utd offered not one, but TWO loan deals with option to buy him. Just not obligation to buy. But Bayern reject both right away, then ACCEPT Tottenham's NO OBLIGATION FOR ANYTHING straight loan?!?! WTF?!?! I don't know what the hell is going on here, but if they miss out on Tel.... they will RUE the day! He'll play good to great for Tottenham, score goals. Go back to Bayern this summer, work his way right into the starting lineup, start killing it and show Utd why they should have sold the farm to get him when they had the chance. Just UN REAL! NO excuses for letting this GOLDEN opportunity slip through their fingers. Players of this caliber, this type of innate ability, this kind of scoring ability do NOT come along very often. There are only a few per generation with this much ability. And rarely if ever are offered to you by another team! Tel is a one in a million type talent and player. As a GM or Owner, you BUY players like this when you are lucky enough to have the chance or you will regret it.
There has to be something going on we're not aware of, for this to fall apart and not go through. Maybe money or PSR issues we're not aware of making it impossible to commit to purchasing him in the summer?! Maybe they want to buy him, but they just can't commit to the purchase obligation for some unknown reason? Or maybe Bayern is being little b***hes?! This is their way of thanking Spurs for giving them Kane?! Maybe Bayern wants a massive Loan fee and Utd just can't afford it? NO IDEA what is going on, but Utd should have done literally everything possible to get this guy. AND to make it all worse, they SOLD Rashford already wit Villa covering the majority of his wages and bonuses?!?! Loan with obligation to buy for around 40 mil!!!! So that's like 275-300k a week of his 350k salary off the books and his 40 mil fee is actually like 80 mil because of PSR rules. And yet they STILL CAN'T OR WON'T get Tel?!?!?! Just mind boggling and a HORRIFIC end to a horrible transfer window. Hopefully they can actually get in more players this summer and some absolute world class talent at that. Maybe there is still a chance they can sign Tel this summer? Who knows. I'm done with this team for the rest of the year. I'm so sick of them and they're pathetic play. I've never seen such a poor group of players all on one team. They should be ashamed of themselves and how poor they play.

I remember keane used to yell at his teammates during post match video analysis and absolutely bash them up individually. He used to make Sir Alex's job easier and everyone used to focus on improving... Idk if amorim has a similar wingman that can command the sinking ship. A leader that can get the best out of his team.

Eveyone is talking about what the club need for the longest period of time, but no one is mentioning how much the club NEED a player to give Bruno competition in his position. No one is mentioning how Bruno is considered untouchable by the past two managers and now Amorim as well. No one is mentioning how Bruno is being inconsistent in doing good for over two years now and is allowed to play 90 minutes every game while dictating what he does. No one is mentioning how under Bruno's leadership the club has accumulated its lowest points tally for those two seasons in a row, and this season will be even worse under different managers. No one is mentioning how Ole and ETH was sacked because of their inability to bench Bruno. No one is mentioning that Bruno has done good for the club one in every 20 games and that having him is counterproductive. No one is mentioning and realizing that as long as Bruno is at the club the team will NEVER move forward.
