And second, it is true, Tempura has its origins dating back to the 16th century, when Portuguese Jesuits brought the Western-style cooking method of coating foods with flour and frying, to Japan. Besides that, a lot of words they have in Japan have Portuguese origins.
Pão is the best example imo. That word (bread) basically has same pronunciation with the Japanese word for bread (and also Korean word for it cos it got imported during Japanese colonization era)
