I would say it is, because it shows the two different possibilities dyslexic people can end up in.
no, a parallel structure would be 'A high percentage of the prison population are dyslexic; a high percentage of the architect population are dyslexic.' BUT it is an interesting sentences to talk about in terms of contrasting images. does that help?

Hi Jade,
Words that relate to the world of academia such as "University" and "professor" help emphasize the academic abilities of one with dyslexia. Considering Zephaniah's unsuccessful experience in school, it is particularly impressive to learn that he has a career in academia. This gives hope to those with dyslexia that the academic world, such as university, is not off-limits.

We could add that the writer had added time expression "when i was 11 or 13,21"to add more realisticity to the text.
The second is that the writer juxtaposes the main possibility of being dyslexic the writer actually said that"we are the architects,we are the designers" but really the writer became a poet,novelist so that tgis highlights the choices he made and would encourage other young and dyslexic poeple to follow your passion or your dream . Could u tell if this two points are correct or is there something more to addd here because i have 6 hrs and 43 mins from now? anyway thank u for helping me with the texts it really means a lot.

Hi Liyah,
If I remember correctly, I would have been referring to the quote: “The past is a different kind of country”. This is an allusion to the first sentence of the classic British 1930s novel “The Go Between”. You could argue that the literary allusion highlights how well-read Zephaniah is - something that would contrast with the expectations of his teachers at the time.

Thank you - this was *really* useful! Can you please explain what you meant by 'imperative verbs' I found it hard to find in the text.
Glad you found the video helpful! Off the top of my head (it’s been a while since I did this video!), I believe I’m referring to line 79: “don’t be heavy on yourself”. The imperative “don’t”, although sounds forceful, is really Zephaniah being encouraging.

Juxtaposition is the placement of two things next to each other for a contrasting effect.
