    In Korean we call single breasted jackets "mai (마이)," which apparently stems from the Japanese word "katamae," which refers to suit jackets. But I can see it causing a ton of confusion in English! - Han

    I think the word you were going for is "risvolto", not "rivolto" which is strictly an adverb or an adjective. The word risvolto sees a very small use nonetheless, "bavero" or the french term "revere", are way more used because they are a more specific indication of lapels ("risvolto" is often more used as the word for pant cuffs, and not the lapel)

    So firstly, you, Tim Dessaint, and Frugal Aesthetic inhabit my mind the most when I'm shopping, in that order. Loving how you've influenced my style but unfortunately, that means you are DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for my recent purchase of a navy blue double-breasted peak lapel sport coat that I now have no idea how to style. (I got it from Goodwill, so I didn't break the bank.)
    Just an idea, but I'd love to see a video on how to dress down double-breasted and/or peak lapelled... sacapetos... Just your take alone on peak vs. notch lapels since you seem to fall squarely into the peak lapel camp. Or not since you likely have a list of like 20 other very-time-intensive videos you'd like to make, any of which I'll watch with the same excitement as I would a new CGP Grey video.

      @@DemetriosLevi I suppose Americans tend to be a little looser with their terminology when it comes to menswear. I'd imagine your term might catch on in the USA for that reason, some sort of search for "general specifics" as Michael Scott might say.

    Sacapeto sounds like a spanish version of the Scarface movie. But I guess I'll spread the word in my so called "Suit wearers" server on Discord (I'm from germany, so the term "suit wearers" actually sounds normal and correct in german)

  • @vaclav_fejt
    @vaclav_fejt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Czech:
    any informal jacket = bunda
    any lapelled jacket = sako
    It sounds vaguely similar to "sacapeto" and I'm rooting for your efforts. :) I only hope it will not seep into Czech (as many English words did) and it will be limited to the lowest of the lowest, people who can't speak proper Czech (make no mistake, they often can't speak English beyond A1).
    On the other hand, I don't think we have a specific term for a suit jacket, as it is simply referred to as "sako". I guess it depends on the context - you never wear a suit jacket without wearing the whole suit ("oblek"), so there's no real need of saying "sako od obleku" unless you need to specify it A sports coat is a "sportovní sako" and a blazer is a blazer (or blejzr? no idea, but the pronunciation is the same).
