Saw one in the wild yesterday with my Son. Lovely looking bike and a bloody steal at 5k love the styling on this and the scrambler but this one is just like a mini Speed Twin
I think I have mentioned before that I have just returned to motorcycling having just retired 🎉🎉. I have never ridden this particular Triumph so no point making a comment on it, but what I did finally decide on was a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 twin. My point to make is that it too is built in India and although not a rocket ship, it rides so well, sounds great and the workmanship is extremely good for the price point. Now't wrong with Indian produced motorcycles provided you compare apples with apples 💪💪👍. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Hi Rich. I've had my Speed 400 from new and done 4,300mile on Her this Summer. I agree with everything you say about the bike. Proper honest review, I have fitted a 16t front sprocket, had to buy it from a company in Spain, MJ Corse. It has made a great difference in the gearing. Handling, Suspension is brilliant for a £5k bike, puts my other bike an NC750x 2021 model to shame. Don't trust the on board MPG figures. The bikes computer is way out. When I was running the bike in with a manual check the best I got was 84mpg, now in the real world of riding I get around the mid 70's. I don't know what the top speed is as I'm not interested, I just know that with the 16t sprocket on the front and a Screen (as you say a must for high speed work) it is very comfy sitting at 70mph. I don't find the bike vibey at 70mph, but I have fitted some 'grip Puppies' another must on all of my bikes, this might help. There is a lot of blurring in the bar end mirrors though at higher speeds. I'll leave here and follow your link to the Scram 400 review . Ride safe 👍
(2:28) what amazing is, this has the same Horsepower as the Kawasaki KLR 650 (It's probable why they call it a mule) Now, I've seen, these do the highest road in Indian last year, two guys finished the ride in the snow. on stock bikes, which was really impressive. Overall, these would be great for long distance trips, if you're like me, I like fuel economy. & I try never to ride the Highways, I prefer to see the backroads, on the journey. a nice windscreen, some soft bags, and a luggage rack, for the tent and sleeping bags, and your off.
@@ontheroadadventure He in the states, No one here, looks at the smaller bikes. It's all about Horsepower, and Huge Touring bikes. But back when I started riding, we were thought, to start out on something small, and work your way up., Not like kids now a days, that want the Zoom-Zoom bikes, to go get killed on. The biggest thing I learned was, (the day you lose respect for the bike, is the day you need to get off of it.) Most kids here, don't want to drive. Mommy and daddy take them everywhere. that's probably why they still live at home at the age of 27. and scooters /nothing to say about them here. But, bike companies are trying to get US older riders, onto the ADV bikes, as moto-camping has become a big thing here. How, funny, I was moto-camping back in the 70's
I'm thinking from the road to the twisted oak that we are going to skip the cart on the way back to the horse. There was a time when mudguards were functional.
I have my speed400 since March, and really enjoying owning it.fitted a radiator guard before even taking it out on the road and have just ordered the Indian market longer front mud guard to protect the radiator
@@ontheroadadventure the speed already has the 15 tooth sprocket people are replacing on the scrambler. I have not heard as yet of anybody replacing the sprocket for a 16 tooth on the speed. At the moment I am happy enough I might investigate further at a later date .but I did change the brake and clutch levers with the correct adjustable ones from Tec a uk company, they made a great difference for me. The other eBay ones are for a ktm the clutch lever is moved further away from your hand so those type are useless
Great review, I've put a front fender extender and rad guard on mine and am considering the 16 tooth spocket and screen. Dont do long distance, loving the bike, its a blast. Fisher price switch gear but they had to save somewhere. I had a few issues which were sorted promptly under warranty.
What issues did you get with yours? It’s interesting you say that because as I said I don’t mind it’s made in India provided we still get the triumph aftercare and parts availability
Glad to hear. We both been worried. We also miss the daily videos. Know you planning a tour so cant wait to see where due to time of year. As you both say, "love you all!" But in al serious, take care!
Overall positive view of the Speed, I echo most of the thoughts the Goerilla answers a number of the criticisms though to offer competition. I bought a blue one as a first larger bike as an older rider it's fast enough handles well good brakes and frugal enough though along with the speedo take the mpg figures eith s pinch of salt. Yes the short mudguard is a negative as is no centre stand, no mouth for bobbins to lift bike up, low gearing and I cannot say having the chain on the same side as the exhaust makes cleaning and maintenance easy. Eventually got my Triumph screen not very effective had to wait 4 months after delivery bearing in mind it and bike ordered in November. Faults just the immobiliser light and stalling coming to rapid halt seems to be kill switch wesk detent will have to see what dealer says though the immobiliser light is a repeat offender.
Very beautiful bike and the roads I usually ride it will flourish on; Our land roads are max 80 Km/hr and I avoid the freeway anyways since going on long straights at 100 Km/hr is a boring as it can be. After 19.00 hrs we are allowed to go 130 Km/hr, but even then this gets boring when you're just going straight, straight, straight. See a freeway to me is transportation in the least possible time, legally spoken. Motorcycle riding starts at 80 Km/hr roads doing twists, curves, hairpins and follow the street next to the river banks and dance with the girl... Guess what; this Triumph 400 is an excellent bike to do all of these things with, so I'd say; Yes, this bike is a go !
Great review👍 That long radiator looks ripe for suffering from grit and stuff thrown up from the front tyre. A common problem with modern motorcycles, but the long rad on the 400 makes it more prone to damage. Rad guard, or/and, front mudguard extension required me thinks......
Personally i would fit the Rad guard that comes on the Scrambler 400 and a Fender Extender. It needs to be the First job as the radiator is really Exposed i think
The parts and finish on the 400 reflect the price point and modern motorcycles are a leisure product not imagined for daily use in all weathers! I have just bought a 400 to compare it to the 1960's 350's and 500's that I specialise in. In 1957 Triumph introduced the T21 specifically aimed at the commuter and touring market with full weather protection but by 1963 these were replaced with "Sports" styling...
Yes it looks cool, some small changes really over the interceptor, the exhaust note should be different and the frame is slightly different. I think it will make a good base for some custom bikes.
Good review nice and honest. Like the observation about use on main roads and vibration. I think you are spot on with its market base, get some young blood on the scene
I ve added a front fender extender and rad gaurd as well as the rear wider mud gaurd The bar end mirrors are fine on mine good rear view and like you say for the price it's such a bargain
Hi Rich, the scrambler does it for me and I am partial to a smaller bike for a bit of A road fun. Looking forward to your test of a Kove 800? Cheers Andy.

Most 125cc would leave you.
Look where your hand is on the throttle 😂😂😂.
You do you my friend. We are not about going fast, especially on such small bikes and on the road.
