Just a recommendation after u drain the wash water spin the clothes in the spin dryer, then put them back in the washer and add the clean water that way u make sure there isn't dirty water left over from the wash.
I use a 5 gallon bucket and a plunger, and I use a commercial mop bucket with the mop squeezer during rinse. I find if I spin, squeeze etc between rinses, I use a lot less water. Also learned when I fill bucket, add soap and water, plunge a few (maybe 5 or ten times) and let the "machine" just sit there for 5 or ten minutes, then come back and plunge a few more times before rinsing, I get a clean wash without all that physical labor.
I think the plunger and an old fashioned wringer securely attached to a substantial bucket would do the job well. Worked for my grandparents on the ranch for many years (although Grandma used a scrub board---and probably lye soap) but with air drying the clothes smelled like flowers, alfalfa, and clover.
Poopy Puppy Productions. Good thinking. I use a bucket and a large, strong, steel, like a snake shaped, potato masher and a bucket for bits and bobs. Lol. I love your ideas.
With all the work for washing, i would just fill my kitchen sink and swoosh the clothes around in it and then drain water and then just run water to rinse.
Tina Alicia I agree I've done that many many time's!!!!!!!!!! I know alot of people that say they would never do tub/sink laundry because it won't get them clean & granted it's not going to get them extremely clean but it know what your doing then there's not gonna be any issues!😉
ƎVOLUTIONATED the sink and a wringer work well. It’s pushing the water with the dirt out. That’s what the spin cycle is supposed to do. Which is why you also can opt for 2 rinse cycles. Start with 3/4 less soap and you will get a lot of the “dirt” gone.
I lived in Mexico for about two years and know what it's like to wash clothes by hand. It can be tedious! Still, after watching the video I think I'd just wash the clothes in the sink (or shower) and only buy the spinner dryer so I didn't have to spend forever wringing the clothes out.
I got a $16 one from amazon and I do my light laundry with it when I can’t get to the laundromat in time. Perfect for underwear, shirts, leggings. Light clothes
I used a washer like this one, a Wonderwash, for over 15 years. There are some tricks to make it a lot more efficient and easier also. First, use less soap than they tell you. Soap just has to break the surface tension, if you have suds, you have all the soap you need. Second and most important, fill that washer up with clothes. Don't pack them but fill it to the top. Lastly, spin it a bit faster than they say, you will tell when you have a good balance between the agitation and the effort you need to put into it. If you do it this way it can be done with one hand. You will get more done easier if you give this a try. I have an electric spinner that works fine. I hand wrung things for the first few years. That was a bit of a chore but it did work. I would suggest you hand wring out everything before you put it in any spinner, no sense putting all that water in there and weight. I hope you try these things, any questions please feel free to ask.
I hope you give my suggestions a try, it really will make it work better for you. :-) Oh and in answer to what some have said, filling this washer up will let you do almost half a typical load at once. I'm heading out to spend the winter in my van touring the far South West and my Wonderwash is going with me!
There is a man the invented washing clothes on the bike, even made it stationary. Real neat how he did it. ❤️ we pay to go to the gym and use a bike, when we could be using a bike at home to wash clothes
Tip for drying pants: save those hangers that have clips on them that come with the pants at the store. Hang your very wet pants outside, upside down, with the seams together so you get a nice line on your slacks, just like you ironed them. The kids sized hanger are perfect to hold the bottoms of your pants. The weight of the top of your wet pants, pulls the wrinkles out the bottom, while hanging to dry. Tips for t-shirts and shirts: Use those hangers that are extra long, so you don't get any hanger bumps on your shirts. Button up your shirts to the top, so they dry with a nice shape. Use office clips as weights on the cuffs of your long sleeve shirts to keep them drying flat, looking like they were creased, and with few to no wrinkles. Can you tell that I hate ironing?
These washing machines are wonderful! You used too much soap and cold water. I've had this type of machine for about 20 years. We use it when camping. For the wash cycle, we use "Janie's BEST Laundry Detergent Recipe" home made detergent and fill the machine a little more than halfway up with hot water. Using hot water will pressurize the wash and help loosen dirt. Rinse twice. Great video!
Fun fact if you’re really struggling and need a cheap temporary solution… a literal $20 salad spinner from Amazon does wonders. Only cleans a few pieces at a time but works amazing and spin dries
I have this "portable washer/spinner Called an ecospin in Australia, and i had much more water than you did and a lot more clothes in it, and it washed and rinsed beautifully! you have to remember that the water rises in the machine when you are rotating the spindle so therefore it is reaching your items on top, no need to take any clothes out! you could have washed even more than you had, I did!!
There are 4 things you need for effective cleaning: Time Temperature Chemical action Friction, Think of them as 4 sections of a clock, if you reduce one, you have to increase another to get the same standard of cleaning. If you use the spin dryer as a washer its better to spin dry right after wash then rinse. Spin out soapy dirty water 1st then it will rise cleaner the first time w/o needing a 2nd rinse; thus less water & one less step.
Oh! But you can use the blue one as a washer tooo!! That's how I always do it. It's faster. Wash, rinse and spin at the same thing. That little thing works!!!
You guys were great. I have been looking for something just like this. I am tired of using the machines everybody in the apartment building uses. I am strange about things like that. I know, I know I have been told before. Can't help it. You did a very good job. Had I not seen your video I might have just bought the spinner not knowing that is about the only thing its good for. Thanks a lot.
I think it would work better to just use your 5 gal bucket with a lid and cut small hole in center of the lid . Install a toilet plunger (like a butter churn) .Just plunge your clothes ...cheaper ,less water waste and very efficient
You know you will have much cleaner clothes if you buy yourself a plastic barrel turning composted. You can plug the few air holes and then just tumble away. The ribs inside the composter help move the clothes instead of centrical force just plastering them against the sides. You can do way more in it.
I hand wash clothes often. The washer would make it so much easier for me. I have arthritis in my left hand from an injury and subsequent surgery . The spin dryer would be a Godsend for any of us who can't quite squeeze all the water out of the clothes. Send one my way lol. And if I'm not using it for laundry, I can always use a salad. Give us more demo videos.
I hand wash 1 full outfit on the regular when I need just my work uniform for the next day. And this seems like it takes way more time and water and elbow grease. Although I did like the salad spinner for drying, seems like it really worked well.
I have both of these. I’ve never tried the spin dryer as a washing machine, and now I know, I never will. LOL Great review, I liked that you gave the gallons of water used. Mine are for an emergency, and I’ve used them a couple times, but never counted the gallons, just ran water from the tap using my faucet hose.
I have one for more years than I can count . but you have to turn it a little faster. It works great . I have put in about 5 to 6 T-shirts at a time . in hand wring after washing (spinner for you)used less water for rinse. Thanks for sharing! More washing videos please!
I'm interested in the spin dryer but the washer would also be appreciated for back up plan. I also use bucket with air plunger for hand washables, weekly. My electric washer breaks down often in a very small but not tiny house. Thx for fun, detailed review. Subscribed!
Actually for the spin dryer, or portable washing machine, a rule for hand washing is often soaking the clothes in water with detergent. After the agitation just leave the thing as it is for 10 - 30 minute or just go for some snack or tea. It will save a lot of effort since you will just need to rinse the detergent clean and spin dry. For hand drying using high absorption sponge/ towel and roll them up with the clothes you twisting, the high absorption will transfer a lot of water that is pretty hard to twist otherwise, after which it is easier twisting those sponge/ towel dry. Clothes twisted dry this way wont even drip.
Thanks for the demo, this has been helpful. I feel like no one ever thinks about reusing the water, either keep the rinse water to rinse out the loads you are washing that day, then use it to wash with once it's gotten too much soap in it to rinse suds out any longer. Consumer washing machines used to have a Suds Saver feature where it emptied the drum into a utility sink via a hose. People would do this regularly to save on water bills, or if they used a well for water. People can also check out the cleaningh routine for dcloth diapers and modify it to suit your cleaning needs for clothing. Break the process down into steps with soak times and build it into your day rather than punishing yourself churning away at a machine for half an hour for one man sized outfit. People have been struggling with laundry ever since civilisation started, it hasn't been all laundromats.
I am moving into a tiny space and got the first one. I messaged my mum (or mom cause I'm an expat in Oz), and I said, oh mom it takes 2L! She lives in the bush and does not have town water, so this thing looks good. Then the lovely woman says 3+ gallons, and I messaged mum again,"oh wait nevermind!;
I love both of them. I use the washer to wash and the dryer to dry the clothes. These machines are very convenient when you have small children. Thank you for the review
I have the same washing equipment as you ,but i do it in my house in the bath , then let the clothes hang on lines over the bath , i only use the spinner for jumpers or tea shirts & yes it shakes , i do have a portable hand wringer but don't use it as much now as drip drying has less creases in things ... i love washing off grid to save electric
I think it would be easier, cheaper, and more space-saving to just fill up your sink with hot water and stir your clothes around to wash them. :) They do make small portable washers (I have a Black & Desker one) that you can store in your shower or under a counter or where ever and just wheel it out when you want to use it. They do require electricity but they're low-power and just plug into a normal outlet. And they make mini dryers that can actually be hung on a wall or where ever you want too. Tho the portable washers often spin-dry the clothes after washing so you don't really need a dryer if you're willing to hand-dry your clothes. :)
I found and watched this video last April. (I took a screen shot of this video for my “Home Appliance” photo folder.) I liked it so much, it was so informative, I’ve watched it again. Really enjoyed it. I thought you would like to know. I really do intend on getting these two items!
Tiny House Expedition It depends on how long it takes to do the alternative. If it’s an hours drive and you have to not only wait, but pay to use a machine that literally thousands of others have used, then a small bucket and plunger may be a better and easier option. The thought of all those dirty clothes from people I don’t know, in machines that are probably crawling with bacteria always makes me itch.
I have the wonder wash brand of washer which is basically the same and I do like to use it for small loads. The spin dryer looks like a great addition for getting the extra water out! Thanks for the review. I’m going to consider that purchase.
They should add a vertical stand for the spinner, it would be way more efficient to use it vertically for washing since clothes would mix better and horizontally for drying.
My preferred method: electric spinner for literally a couple minutes (tiny electricity use, and clothes come out almost dry) > put shirts directly on hangers to finish drying (super fast because so much water is already removed) > move to closet. So easy! Also, tumble washers like the Avalon or Wonder Wash actually work BETTER with more clothes than in this demo so they can agitate against each other. That means sometimes an entire week of my ultra-minimalist laundry can fit in one load! (Mostly thin tees and undies since I wear slip-on shoes without socks and prefer to re-wear outer layers if they're not stinky or dirty.) I especially like that I can let heavily soiled items soak, which is not an option when using standard washers in shared facilities. (This also allows a break from having to crank continuously. ; - ) I wish I had invested in my own laundry machines years ago since it is such a game changer not to have to use the often broken or in-use facilities at my apartment complex or schlep to the laundromat! Next step: dishwasher!!! 🤩
I live in the Philippines and the salad spinner washer worked so well as a makeshift spin dryer. For the washing itself, I just have two basins, fill the basin with water and some liquid detergent, whites first, the colored delicates, color shirts and cotton shorts, and heavy laundry. I washed it by hand and with the help of those gloves that has some ribbing to it. Rinse by hand 2 or 3 times and spin dry on that salad spinner washer. That was my laundry routine after a Cat 5 typhoon struck us in late 2021 and also in 2013. I also have a deep well water source for emergency situations like this as even water piping system in the city incurred damages from those catastrophic storms.
Think I would use the spinner but never had much luck with that kind of washer. I use a mini washer that has a spinner and fits in the shower. True it's electric but to do ALL the laundry, I'd be willing to use battery power.
It was fun watching you try these out! I'd love to win them! I'd love to use them at my off-grid tiny house that I'm planning to build. Thanks for the demo and info on these contraptions. Very helpful info.
Need big Bowl how come without draining out water to wash all your cloths than drain water. Have Another Big Bowl for spin dryer only thought only my opinion!!
Those look great to me. I really like the idea of the washer, and the dryer would be good if we have another couple in for a salad dinner. Actually, i think the dryer would be the one most used in in case of cleaning up on water spills. Sign me up.
I'm afraid you guys aren't using the 'agitator' component when using the portale spin dryer as a washer. That accounts for the lousy results when used as a washing machine :-)
Really cool video. I downsized to a small wardrobe and typically try to get laundry done every other day, sometimes daily. I wash in the sink. I hand agitate and soak, wring, rinse once, wring again, then use a salad spinner for anything that will fit. That setup looks a lot more practical for what I'm doing!
I think I could make a contraption to wash clothes for under $10. One issue I have with each of these units is storage. Gotta be careful not to break the plastic handles off..good video, looks like you are all adapting to the tiny house..
Just a note here....When using the salad spinner type washer, if you are washing the clothes you don't put the basket inside. The basket is put inside just for spinning the clothes to dry them. There is a separate agitator to use in it for washing the clothes. That might make a difference on how well it washes the clothes.
When washing with a salad spinner, the agitation is from changing direction of the spin not the spin itself so you don't push the handle through a full turn before reversing the direction. It's often best to just open the spinner and agitate the clothes by hand. Just spinning does nothing to washing the clothes. Also, you want to wash a lot longer, 15 to 30 minutes or even more which makes these hand powered devices just too tiring to use. Look for ones with an electric motor or a foot pump mechanism. The small capacities means multiple loads so it's a good idea to save the soap water and the first rinse water for reuse especially if you are van living where water conservation is an issue. Spin drying between wash and rinse is a good idea as well as between rinses.
9:20 I still do the SAME thing sometimes with my portable washer (electric) - forget to put the hose back UP so it doesn't just pour the water back out! 11:40 You still didn't add enough water to the washer/spinner. The water should be covering the clothes. Without enough water, the clothes will not agitate properly.
The spinner looks cool........not sure about the washer. There was another washer/spinner a few years back that had a pedal, you could just pump the pedal with your foot and it would wash/spin. Either way I'm glad we have alternatives to laundromats or being forced to use huge machines for small loads.
Yeah- I don't even think a set of my scrubs (MY work outfit) would fit. On a positive note: Looks like a great workout though. I should great "Michele Obamas" or even "Madonna biceps" within a few months!
That’s a lot of water isn’t it? My full size Samsung uses about that for a 10kg load. Most modern washing machines decycle water through the programme. Currently in the uk we have a drought situation developing so it’s worth noting. You don’t need agitation with washing detergent as they work by reducing water surface tension (surfactant action). Soap works by agitation, By the time you’ve used that salad spinner the c,others you’re wearing are no doubt sweaty and need washing lol.
Sadly doesn’t seem to help much with grassy debris stuck to socks lol. Might be cool to build a flip down table top to connect to exterior of tiny house, and install a clipping base to attach the spinner to. Easier to handle the off balanced spinner
If you notice that a washing machine does not agitate like that. It goes clockwise one turn and then back counterclockwise one full turn then back again. The Washing machine does not continue as you did. That is why it did not clean the way you thought it might clean. I hope this helps.
I have been doing all of my laundry in the laundry pod ( which is similar to the one they’re using) to me it’s worth it because first I soon the clothes for about 15 seconds, then soak the clothes for about 40 minutes, then I spin it periodically off and on in between chores, I then press the clothes against the sink and rinse in the laundry pod with clean water, once the rinse water has drained I spin fast for about a minute. Then hang. The clothes come out moist but not dripping, it saves my clothes from being ruined from twisting and they come out cleaner than in a washing machine. It’s a breeze if you use it properly
That sounds absolutely ghastly 🤔 , almost illegal to me. Doesn't the Health and Welfare Department carry out annual inspections and interviews? I'm getting very old now; terrified of being locked up with hundreds of elderly people who can't wash their clothes. Thank you for helping me to procrastinate for a few more years.
I have the pink version of the salad spinner...I mean washer/dryer from a different company and I have the same issue. Water everywhere. I didn't get a max fill line on mine and no directions. When I contacted the company for help they told me it was all my fault and that I was using it wrong. I was told it's only for socks, underwear and baby clothes. You obviously proved that is not the case.
oooh nice. you will make my day, guys ...i just decided to live on my sailboat and i really need that dryer ))) you still have a promo code? ;) keep on shooting, guys thank you
Just a recommendation after u drain the wash water spin the clothes in the spin dryer, then put them back in the washer and add the clean water that way u make sure there isn't dirty water left over from the wash.
Does this work for man sized outfits?! Asking since you’re the expert
That makes total sence thanks !!!
hell no give me a wash tub and an old wash board and a close line

To Mimi Milan: Perfect comment. Well done.

Io l'ho comprata un mese fa ma si è rotta la manovella Vi chiedo se Voi sapete come si può aggiustare grazie
I feel both would be better if you could hook them up to a bike.
oh yea I like that idea lol if only!
I'm sure the professor from Gilligan's Island could get that sorted :-D
The Curious Ginger, lol
I like the bike idea
You are a smart person

Right on! Have great time!
I hand wring then spin after the wash and rinses. Pulls out the soapyness faster with less water changes.

Love "I feel above average" & "we ARE professionals". It really is great to have your insights into these products.
Thanks! 😉😄☺️
I honestly would hand wash her panties myself

They make sinks with wash boards built in now. Easier and can do more faster. Big big sinks with wash boards... Love them!

I would get the dryer. That is much better than ringing out clothes.
I let mine sit in the water before I start spinning mine. I think it helps bc I don't need to do so many rinse cycles
Could you re use the water that you rinsed them with for other loads*? :)

Good feedback! And you got it 👍☺️
Spin after first wash... to get rid of most of the soap, wash second time to rinse then spin
Great demo. Id just do a bucket and plunger for washing/rinsing then use the spin dryer. Seems like it would be a bit less physicsl:)

Try the spin dry after washing to get rid of excess soap before rinsing 🙃
That’s a good idea
Living off grid is my dream, thank you!
I love the spin dryer, that would be great for me to dry my kids clothes. Awesome.
I have one for more years than I can count . but you have to turn it a little faster. It works great . I have put in about 5 to 6 T-shirts at a time . in hand wring after washing (spinner for you)used less water for rinse. Thanks for sharing! More washing videos please!
Thanks for the advice!! ☺️✨

Seems to work fine.
Be careful...the lid can fool you.
My hands were soapy and did not get it on right
I love both of them.
Thank you. You have saved me money. I was just about to order this
The winners of the Portable Washer & Spin Dryer have been announced! Watch HERE: th-cam.com/video/l6UYoxPOJTY/w-d-xo.html 🎉
I found and watched this video last April. (I took a screen shot of this video for my “Home Appliance” photo folder.) I liked it so much, it was so informative, I’ve watched it again. Really enjoyed it. I thought you would like to know. I really do intend on getting these two items!
Thank you so much Robert! ☺️✨
"oh... I got the lid on too tight...! Urg!" Lol! That's a work out for sure!
Reminds me of my salad spinner. Love it!
how many loads did you have to do to complete your huge basket of laundry? I think I'll pass on this one too.
We ended up going to the laundromat 😉😁
Tiny House Expedition
It depends on how long it takes to do the alternative. If it’s an hours drive and you have to not only wait, but pay to use a machine that literally thousands of others have used, then a small bucket and plunger may be a better and easier option. The thought of all those dirty clothes from people I don’t know, in machines that are probably crawling with bacteria always makes me itch.
They need to make a much bigger one that fits much more in
To make the rinse cycle faster, spin dry the clothes and then add clean water.
I have the wonder wash brand of washer which is basically the same and I do like to use it for small loads. The spin dryer looks like a great addition for getting the extra water out! Thanks for the review. I’m going to consider that purchase.
Appreciate the feedback 😊✨
these should be somehow connected to pedals so that you can bike your clothes clean ! Workout and chores done all in one
Love that idea!
(Mostly thin tees and undies since I wear slip-on shoes without socks and prefer to re-wear outer layers if they're not stinky or dirty.)
I especially like that I can let heavily soiled items soak, which is not an option when using standard washers in shared facilities. (This also allows a break from having to crank continuously. ; - )
I wish I had invested in my own laundry machines years ago since it is such a game changer not to have to use the often broken or in-use facilities at my apartment complex or schlep to the laundromat!
Next step: dishwasher!!! 🤩
That dryer looks great for delicates
Good point 👍
Agreed.
I also have a deep well water source for emergency situations like this as even water piping system in the city incurred damages from those catastrophic storms.
hi alexis and christian thx for the video, this was super indepth im glad you guys showed all the problems along the way. that was super helpful
Most welcome ☺️✨
Think I would use the spinner but never had much luck with that kind of washer. I use a mini washer that has a spinner and fits in the shower. True it's electric but to do ALL the laundry, I'd be willing to use battery power.
I think the Echo Spin is good just to spin hand washed items.😊
too much work for too little results
It was fun watching you try these out! I'd love to win them! I'd love to use them at my off-grid tiny house that I'm planning to build. Thanks for the demo and info on these contraptions. Very helpful info.
Im getting them for when SHTF and we have no power already have the washer now need the spinner thanks for sharing
Im exhausted just watching them do the work lol but I enjoyed this video!
That's a LOT of work. I'll just go to the laundry mat, thanks.
That was our conclusion too 😉👍
Glad I watched this. Saved me £60!
The ecowash though is so expensive in the uk,for that price I could hire someone to wash my clothes! Ridiculous.
Need big Bowl how come without draining out water to wash all your cloths than drain water. Have Another Big Bowl for spin dryer only thought only my opinion!!
Live in Alberta ,Canada
Spin Drying but can be wash machine put in Spin Dryer no electricity in Shower any water spills
Great suggestion Wanda; thanks!
Thank you for the great demonstration. I would never use the spinner as a washing machine.
ive seen the blue one being used on diff vids and works well, light loads tshirts, socks underwear etc its not bad at all or messy
Those look great to me. I really like the idea of the washer, and the dryer would be good if we have another couple in for a salad dinner. Actually, i think the dryer would be the one most used in in case of cleaning up on water spills. Sign me up.
You got it! 😊👍
When will you be announcing the winners?
John Ilko in 1 week, to be announced in next week's episode of Today's Tiny House Parking Spot 👍
Great little work horses! I’d use either one.
I'm afraid you guys aren't using the 'agitator' component when using the portale spin dryer as a washer. That accounts for the lousy results when used as a washing machine :-)
Ooh! The dryer! Thanks for giving them away. =)
I would like to see a metal version
When you used the spin dryer as a washer, did you spin before the first rinse or just empty it, then add water?
Just started video ... better salad spinner! Getting clean clothes is an enigma even with real washers!
Just a note here....When using the salad spinner type washer, if you are washing the clothes you don't put the basket inside. The basket is put inside just for spinning the clothes to dry them. There is a separate agitator to use in it for washing the clothes. That might make a difference on how well it washes the clothes.
i seriously wish you would try it as a salad spinner!
Y'all are adorable! I'd love to win the salad/ clothes spinner! 🙃 thanks for posting!
The salad is ready to eat
😂
The spinner looks cool........not sure about the washer. There was another washer/spinner a few years back that had a pedal, you could just pump the pedal with your foot and it would wash/spin. Either way I'm glad we have alternatives to laundromats or being forced to use huge machines for small loads.
I'm trying to picture doing a pair of my husbands heavy denim cargo work pants in one of those. I'm not sure one pair would even fit lol.
Yeah- I don't even think a set of my scrubs (MY work outfit) would fit. On a positive note: Looks like a great workout though. I should great "Michele Obamas" or even "Madonna biceps" within a few months!
Thanks for the video I think if the suction cup stuck it would be easier!
Soap works by agitation,
By the time you’ve used that salad spinner the c,others you’re wearing are no doubt sweaty and need washing lol.
Great points 😁
Sadly doesn’t seem to help much with grassy debris stuck to socks lol. Might be cool to build a flip down table top to connect to exterior of tiny house, and install a clipping base to attach the spinner to. Easier to handle the off balanced spinner
Good idea 👍
If you notice that a washing machine does not agitate like that. It goes clockwise one turn and then back counterclockwise one full turn then back again. The Washing machine does not continue as you did. That is why it did not clean the way you thought it might clean. I hope this helps.
Not impressed with either the Portable Washer or Dryer... but I always enjoy your videos!
Thank you! ☺️
Thank you for the demonstration!
I never saw Christian's funny side before, excellent mugging arou d 😆😂😆!
a plunger type washer/pail with roller wringer for "drying" is far superior for laundry
Lol, you guys were fun to watch. I've not seen those before! Those would be great!
😁 considered yourself entered to win!

Thank you!!
I live in a senior apt with hundred of seniors and only 3 washers and 3 dryers they would help
Damn! That spinner is expensive!
Looks like a good workout!
Good CLEAN fun!
oooh nice. you will make my day, guys
...i just decided to live on my sailboat and i really need that dryer )))
you still have a promo code? ;)
keep on shooting, guys
thank you
Best wishes with your sailboat! ☺️✨
