    another excellent " common mistakes made" video from an angler to envy! But it's good to see the human side with the heavy weights you drop shotted with (as your regular weight size) . I think my mojo rig, near and dear to me for so many years helped me learn that the 1/4 oz. is a good weight to start with in so many depths and circumstances. Any more weight than that there better be a real good reason because too much weight dulls the feel because it's more of a dredging effect and the action of the bait which follows that is less than the natural mini little hangup feels I learned with the mojo and how that translates into action in your bait that triggers commitment by bass. Just when I think I know a certain area you always teach me something new & important, thanks Tyler!

    That's some great stuff Tyler. I have just recently added a permanent drop shot set-up to my arsenal and can't imagine not having one every time I go out. However, I'm definitely guilty of your first topic. I cast out and twitch that bait all the way back to the boat. I have had pretty good success with that....but what if smoothing that bait back to boat gets me more? I will definitely be trying that out the next time I'm on the water. Thanks! And also, thanks for jumping right into your topics. As someone who watches a lot of TH-cam fishing videos, it drives me crazy when people spend the first 5 minutes of a 10 minute video telling people to subscribe and hit the like button, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I appreciate it when others jump right in like you're doing.

    Hey Tyler, I REALLY love your line/knot test videos. I know what your choice of knots is for this technique. I would love it if you would do a knot strength test on drop shot knots. Most knots that we tie for DS are not 100% knots. Which one is best?

    Thanks Tyler! Most of the fishing I do is in shallow water so I go weightless because I love a very slow fall but in deeper water adding a split shot or 2 for a drop shot is a must. I only give a soft pop to get it off the bottom to slow fall again.

    Drop shot with heavier weight can be advantageous when fish are aggressive and you want to get the bait down faster. Don’t remember the pro’s name but he was talking on the Smallmouth Crush podcast about how his power fishing with a drop shot worked and how he wanted to slam that bait to the bottom to trigger reaction bites, and he would only leave it there for a few seconds before retrieving and repeating. Most bites were on the initial drop. Anyway the point is there are exceptions to these “rules”

    Out here in Cali drop shotting is used A LOT. When the bite is good and they are biting a bit of action will work. But 90% of the time just letting it sit gets the bite. Or like you are saying just very subtle movements. The shaking thing just has never worked for me. Cool video. Less is better it's a game of patience. And like you said you are trying to get a fish to bite that won't eat anything else. Margarita mutilator is super popular color. I don't see why the weight would really matter. If you're shaking it, it doesn't make a difference. The weight will make it drop faster. Now if you're fishing around cover and it's moving and dropping the weight will matter. Not something I deal with here, but plausible as you said you noticed a difference. I like 1/4 I can feel the bait better, 3/16 is ok but 1/4 is my go to now.

    I've been using a fluke style bait on an offset hook for my drop shot set-ups for windy days. Works great! My friends and other people constantly tells me i'm doing it wrong but they always shut up when I pull out the bigger bass, every time. On non-windy days, I will use a straight worm.

    I keep a drop shot tied up all year round. Dedicated dobyns fury med light finesse rod always has a drop shot tied on. I agree 100% that too much action is a no-no. I usually throw it right up near grass lines or near cover where fish are being picky and let it sit. Once I learned to be patient and barely move that thing at all, I changed my dropshot game. Robo worms, some tini jackal plastics, etc.. work so so well.

  • @robertbrost7777
    @robertbrost7777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, if you're fishing in the Winter when the bass want less action on a bait, would it be better to use a heavier weight? You said a heavier weight will limit the baits action. Thanks

    • @jasonrekker4328
      @jasonrekker4328 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could be, if you are also not imparting much movement. If you are moving/dragging the bait a lot, that’s going to deter winter fish more than micro movements permitted by lighter weight.

  • @Milehighsnake98

    When I started dropshotting was when I marked fish in 35'+. I didn't want a heavy weight to crash to the bottom, so I used...3/16. And I use 3/16 for everything from 10' to 40'. It can take 30-40 seconds to reach bottom so it wouldn't work in current.

    I've never thrown a drop shot. I have the hooks, weights and plastic for it. I just haven't tried it yet.

    i always fish a roboworm on my drop shots but i notice as it gets colder and i wanna dead stick it, the action isn’t great it just kind of hangs. do you let it sink to the bottom on slack line? or is this not a problem?

    I throw a dropshot over most techniques because I have a ridiculous amount of confidence in it.
