Here's how the British stole this Kenyan land

  • Half a million Indigenous Kenyans were violently evicted during British colonization in order to make room for tea plantations. Kenya produces more than half of the black tea imported by the UK and British companies still dominate the industry. Kenya gained independence from the UK 60 years ago. So why are Indigenous Kenyans still fighting the British government for their land?

      In Australia, we still had White wardens controlling Aboriginal missions as late as the 1980s and 1990s, where the Aborigines needed permission to leave the mission even to attend a funeral.
      I have indigenous friends who were from the stolen generation, but the majority White population still hide the truth and just say "get over it, this happened generations ago, so why should we pay reparations?" 🤔

    In the Netflix series, “Crown”, second episode, Elizabeth and Philip honeymooned in Kenya. During a parade review, Philip and a native king met, eye to eye. I felt that this was foreshadowing the Mau Mau revolt that would happen a few years later. I had hoped that this would be an opportunity to examine what really happened before Kenya's independence. I would be disappointed and the series became increasingly soapy.

Its a shame but that is the fact of life for these people. The cost of reparations today (taking inflation into account) would simply bankrupt England who can are facing some bad financial time themselves at the moment. 100,000,000 to crown a Nazi (supposedly) while the average working person has to choose between food or heat. An absolute disgrace if you ask me.

    Fine, if Britain doesn't want to return, just tax these businesses out of existence. Native Kenyans can form their own cooperatives and buy the assets at auction price. After that, Kenya can choose whether to lower the taxes (and should, of course!). There will be disruption and confusion for a few years, after which things will get back to normal.

    • @Moses_VII
      @Moses_VII 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You say this as if the Kenyan government isn't complicit. Also, the taxes would be seen as an act of war, equal to violence. You need to read the history of Marxist movements and economic nationalisation: it was never possible to decolonise peacefully. Only militarily powerful countries such as Japan were able to peacefully deal with their occupiers, and that's how Japan became an American ally, because America was afraid of Japan joining the communists and becoming a powerful country as it was before the end of WWII.

    After 1963 majority of white farm owners fled their lands and the indigenous people took over those lands. However, the minority white owned farms today produce more crops than the rest of the countries other farms combined. If Kenya take those farms as well they might follow the Zimbabwe model where imports exceed exports. That will cause major cash shortages in an economy that already struggles to pay its public servants.

    I dunno...the Kenyan lady at the beginning said she's starving and yet, we can see that she is well-fed and looks far from malnourished. In 2023, their problems are with the Kenyan government for not doing enough for their people. Yes, the British are evil but the colonization happened decades ago. Now they should find ways to rebound from that instead of dwelling on the past.
