    Pin 6 is supposed to be an anti bump/rake pin. If you try to use a kinetic attack the pin will rotate and jiggle in the oblong slot which dissipates the energy side to side instead of pushing up the spring tension.

    • @ianitor
      @ianitor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      but the slot looks like the same shape as the base of the pin, where would it rotate?

    • @Bri-bn5kt
      @Bri-bn5kt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, it makes the pins proprietary, so if you ever wanted to rekey these locks, you would have to buy pins from them.

    • @EdStarwind
      @EdStarwind ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking similar... the smaller tip might make it harder to single pin pick due to slipping off or similar. Also might throw off someone with a rake because pin 7 is off from where it "should be" in an even distribution.

    This lock structure comes in 3 shackle diameters: 10 13 and 16 mm. They are originally designed to fit in a steel case to further pevent brute force attack. The steel case is even more heavy duty from the lock. It is intended for heavy seel gates or steel containera. The housing can be bolted to the gate/door, however it is usually welded into place.
    It will be interesting to see a destructive entry attempt on the fully armored version of this.

    HI LPL, nice vid as allways .. ;-)
    About the 6'th pin, its designed as a patent protection againts unautorized duplicating keys (cut on key is patented),
    this is a cheaper (same but from cheaper factory) version of mul-t-lock integrator (check the web)
    and numbers of keys means: 666P 66keyway(there are many different MTL keyvays) 6th position of "integrator pin" and P means pin and resp. cut on key are oriented to center of key/core, another key 666E means are oriented to side of key/core this combination uses Garrisson cylinders with tuquoise key bows
    MTL puts integrator pins to one of 3-6 positions and there is possible get even M integr. pin and keys means
    Master and is used in master key systems as a master key (key fits both orientation)
    and "M" pin can be operaten only by "M" key
    never hesitate ask me for more info ;-)

    • @thomasw.6945
      @thomasw.6945 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ian Duke yes, its about cut aside of sixth cut/dimple (from keybow)
      There is a atypical keypin with more than just tip (asother pins) this pin has "bar" aside of tip and if You don't have that cut (check key at 6:20 on video) on the key that atypical pin still protrudes from cylinder and You cannot turn.. ;-)

    • @thomasw.6945
      @thomasw.6945 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ian Duke..yes, on key is that gap "above" sixth cut :-) )..
      i'm mot sure how that idea is old, but this variation for me is new (when mul-t-lock came with integrator model several years ago) new Garrisson and this YALE cylinders are just cheaper execution of MTL Integrator ;-)
      And Yes even in europe sometimes somebody tries patent some wery weak idea, but we have more strict rules about what can be patented (and idea must be new od modified with some sensible new..)

    Either you are a master Lock Picker (I mean this as a compliment not at all a slight) or the art of lock picking is much easier than I really gave thought to. I have seen less, robust, locks give you more trouble than this fellow. It got picked and dismantled faster than I really ever expected it could. I asked this on another of your videos, which is, how can in our day a lock be the way we secure our goods? Given time and desire they are not really stopping anyone who wants what it defends. From physical means like the hydraulic cutter you have used to destroy shackles to this demonstration I am sure there is not a safe way we can defend ourselves from the well armed and informed criminal element. I guess, luckily, criminals are not anywhere near your level of intelligence (with obvious exception to that statement) and given more easy targets our only hope is they see a more tempting easier to enter structure (home, lock, etc) & "pick" that option instead of your or my structure. Thank you for the ever detailed show and many more to follow I hope.

    • @joshuarosen6242
      @joshuarosen6242 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The act of pushing against the pin with the pick counter-rotates the core. He slightly reduces tension to allow the core to counter-rotate and then it rotates again when actually setting the pin. This is something that happens with spools but not normal driver pins.

      What are your insurers looking for when it comes to reducing premiums? E.g., do they want deadbolts on all external doors, locks or bars on all windows, audit trailed entry/exit on all external doors, no accessible ground floor windows, etc.
      What is your home environment like? E.g., do you live in the city l with busy pedestrian traffic, near a train station with busy morning/afternoon peak hour traffic, or more rurally with a less accessible/accessed road?
      Are you renting/leasing your property? If so, does your landlord approve?
      Do you live in a strata? If so, do they approve?
      Does your council have any restrictions on locks or where you may place locks?

    I don't know why this channel only has 237K subscribers. This is top-notch videography and content. There are pure crap channels with waaay more subscribers. Weird.

    I think that pin six is cut that way so that it doesn't rotate as it's supposed to slip in that slot in the key, some times simple answers are the correct ones?
    I mean, what else could it possibly do, to my knowledge, having a non circular pin (of a rounded cross section) doesn't really affect picking speed.

      Maybe drill protection? It's thicker and a different colored metal. Then again, it is towards the rear.

      Key control perhaps?

    • @Sauspreme
      @Sauspreme 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm how would a bigger pin affect key control? I've only heard of key control through modified unique key ways or "do not duplicate" marking. Making a duplicate key of the one that engages the large pin would work the same, right? or am I missing something?

      It might also make picking harder because the tip is more narrow, if you look at the tip of the pin then it's not the ordinary round variant. And it might be a key control thing - a groove is required in the key that's not present in the shape of the keyway, which might throw off those trying to make a key copy.

      Non rotating pin with "triangle knife edge" is like DOM pins which can snag and capture dimple picks; if you lift too high and pick rotates into pin chamber, pin falls back down a bit, and your dimple pick flag is "captured" aka "capture the flag"

    LPL, do you loosen all the fasteners before you shoot a video? It seems like none of the fasteners you loosen are anywhere near torque spec.

    They should put some kind of immobilizer tech, like the one that most modern cars are equipped with, inside of those padlocks.

      They have this... if you want to pay $600+ for a Padlock.

      Wouldn't it basically make the any lock pickproof?

    • @darthkarl99
      @darthkarl99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AFAIK magnetic locks are functionally unpickable and far cheaper. That said an immobiliser based system has the downside of needing power to operate.Depending on the failure mode it might be possibble to bypass the immobiliser. And even if it fails to secure a failed pick attempt could still brick your lock.

    LPL, I just found this channel recently, and am curious about a couple terms. What is a False Set and what does Counter-rotation mean when picking? I imagine these are terms you have explained before, but with 700+ videos I thought I'd just ask.

    • @brianhignett8954
      @brianhignett8954 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bowen324, Not sure LPL reads all the comments - there are so many of them for every video! A false set is when the lock has non standard pins - usually spool driver pins. As you pick, the core ( plug ) turns slightly, due to the narrow section of a spool pin across the shearline. Thus a false set. This spool pin ( pins ) has to be picked of course, and as the key pin is moved with the pick, the core will slightly counter rotate as the spool pin crosses the shearline. Regards, Brian.

  • @rogerhupp3115

    What do you mean by counter rotation?
    Are you talking about relieving tension on the core?

    • @TotesCray
      @TotesCray 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      literally, rotational force in the opposite direction than he's going with the tension bar. It suggests that there is a spool pin that is currently binding on the center, slimmer portion, but when manipulating it with the pick, it wants the core to rotate counter to the current direction of pressure, i.e. "backwards", in order to get the wider part of the spool pin past the shear line. Hope that makes sense.
