Thank you so much for this comparison. I was waiting for it. So the new basic is the smaller, lighter and a bit sharper paperwhite 4, but with no waterproof. Although the size of the new kindle alone makes me tempted, I guess I can wait for the next generation when they will certainly incorporate the warmth color tool, since upgrade to the ppw5 is not an option for me, due to its size and weight. I really prefer smaller and lighter e-readers.

To the point and very informative. I'll buy the Kindle 2022 since the screen of my Kindle PW 4 faded a lot after letting it unused for a month with the cover closed (somehow the magnetic component of the cover affected the battery life of the device).

I love my Paperwhite. I didn't even realize it had that dark mode until I just grabbed it and checked, LOL!
Wait, so this new one is NOT waterproof? I never realized what peace of mind that feature gave me until I got it. I used to do a lot of reading outside and while out and about. With my previous ereaders through the years, I was always paranoid about them getting wet. Even with a case or a sleeve, I'd still put it in a plastic bag, just in case. Now I don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the review. I'm broke these days, so I'm hoping mine holds out a few more years. It's served me very well so far.

Definitely going to get the new basic kindle. Now that they have the 300ppi screen.. it just makes sense for a basic reader.

Ended up grabbing the Paperwhite because it was on sale. Feel good about my purchase though, it has a couple of extra non-essential features, but worth it on sale.

Great video and exactly what I was interested in seeing.
I always thought the paperwhite had a different display (hence the name paperwhite), but seems that aside from the waterproof and flush front there's no real difference (and in reality perhaps the new kindle perhaps even has the edge?)
Basically I'm using old 4th gen original kindle.
Seeing second hand 10th Gen paperwhite for around 50-60£ (UK), or the brand new 2022 Kindle is £85. So brand new device for a little more cost. (assuming I don't stretch to the 11th gen pw)

I currently have the Kindle Paperwhite 2, 4, and 5. I also have the Kindle Basic 2016. All of them are in Brand NEW pristine condition and function flawlessly. I really like the look of the NEW KINDLE 2022 especially in the Denim Blue color. I just don't know if it justifies spending another $100.00 to get something I honestly don't need. Having 8GB of storage is honestly more than enough on my current Kindle Paperwhite's because they will hold thousands of books. I don't like or store Audio Books on my Kindle's because I have other devices for that. I guess having 16GB of storage on the NEW 2022 KINDLE would be nice but is it honestly necessary for me? I like the smaller slimmer design of the NEW 2022 Kindle but I prefer the flush screen and the Water Proofing on my Kindle Paperwhite's 4 and 5. I also prefer the warm light on my Kindle Paperwhite 5. I guess it's gonna come down to the price that Amazon is going to sell the NEW 2022 KINDLE for on Black Friday for me to decide. Thanks for posting this comparison video.

Side page buttons and removing the power button from the bottom (and placing it on top or on the back) would have made it a nearly perfect device. The back of the device also should have a better rubberized texture for improved grip.

I doubt they would add buttons on this.

It's less expensive for a reason, if they had the rubber back then it would cost more. If you're going to use these devices with a back case, then the (lack of) rubber back is a non-issue.

Is the flush screen reducing the contrast? @3:46 , there is a significant difference in the quality of blackness between both screens. The kindle basic 2022 is blackier than PW. Is this because of extra plastic layer for flush screen? or is it an illusion created by of studio lighting?

I have both, and Kindle 2022 has significantly better contrast

Why did they get rid of the side page-turn buttons? That never made much sense to me. I've always liked those on my 2011 Kindle 4, Kobo, and Nook devices. 🤔🧐

I guess it's because the Kindle Oasis needed to have some the new ones doesn't have.
