I call bs!!! Oni was so hard to beat!!! The only way we found was sataying n the left corner and punching him immediately after he punched riki. For some reason he'd hit first and your energy would get low but in the end he dies first!
Got a SMS, this game, Space Harrier, Wonder Boy, Alex the Kid from FEDCO as a kid in 86. Everyone had NES back than, but a small contingent had Sega. I had about 50 games, all manuals an boxes and the system in the original box. My parents sold it at a yard sale for $50. Bastards.
Playing this game back in the day absolutely kicked my ass, and you beat it so easily and with no damage, I'm not worthy to watch this, but I did, lol, congrats man, super awesome reliving this.
Man, I loved this game as a kid! This was before I got into Anime and learned about Fist of the North Star. I remember Oni was the hardest boss for me until I figured out that if you strike first and go shot-for-shot, you'll win with barely any health left. Wang was just fun to fight, though. Made the whole game worth it for me. Man, the memories....
Originally, this game was actually based on the anime series "Hokuto no Ken" (or "Fist of the North Star"), the main character is Ken and he is the master of this ancient martial arts, the Hokuto Shinken, where with his punches he can destroy the enemies bodies from inside out. It was changed since at that time, FotNS wasn't known in the West yet
this is fist of the north star something happened with the licensing so they just changed the name and some graphics but gameplay is the same and the henchmen still blow up in japan they actually have fist of the north star aka hokuto no ken for sega
My fave SMS game. So many amazing memories attached to this ;_; But WTF dude, 10mins and no damage?? I didn't even kno you could beat Oni without taking equal damage xD
although the guy clearly cheated, i can beat oni without taking any damage sometimes. the trick is using a flying kick and immediately crouching once you hit the ground. he will dodge the kick and try to punch you upwards, but will miss if you're crouched. as soon as he miss, punch him in the face. it took an eternity for me to find this way to beat him
There was once a tournament taken place in my hometown when I was 11 years old. Not just talking about getting past those biggies on each round, the rule was also counting on the shortest time with all 6 rounds clear. At last there was a guy winning who completed it in less than 10 min. I was still not be able to get myself convinced how this could happen until now. Thanks very much.
My Hero. One of the first set of games I got when I got a sms in 87 (Ghost House, Transbot, Teddy Boy, And Hang On/Safari Hunt combo cartridge). Was and still is great Game, My Hero.
LOL, me too, this was back when the games were behind the glass and you had to take a ticket up the front. Plus the games came in those awesome checker-striped boxes!.
I so love this game. I was so hooked on it for house watching all the moves when finish off all the bosses. They should add Riki to mortal kombat with those moves he would some some awesome fatalities. Thanks for the upload talbot1939. You sure brought back the good old Sega Master system memories.
Wow that was awesome! I used to love this game I always thought it was so much better than Kung Fu for Nintendo. I think I played this and Zillion the most on my Master System.
Ya. It was originally Fist of the North Star but given a sprite change since no one back then knew Kenshiro in the early 80s. The original game was way harder than the Black Belt game we know. Great Speed Through!
I had this game too. The ending seen here isn't really the end of the game. There was a combination of button and controller inputs that extended the game.
lcjr yes but fist of the blue sky came out in 2007. i'm saying this because there is nothing post apocalyptic in that game but rather looks like old 1920/1950 china. just like when snk takes place
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. I had a horrible time with Oni. It took me forever to figure out you could just back up against the fall and keep punching. I probably beat this game 100 games after I figured out that trick. I didn't do the jumping over henchmen thing though, I liked to kill everyone, haha. But I realize you're doing a speed run. This game kicked Kung Fu for NES's ass.
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH! I WAS 12 AND A WHITE BELT IN KARATE WHEN I FIRST PLAYED IT. SURELY I SAW MYSELF IN RIKI'S PLACE. IT REALLY REMINDS ME OF MY TEEN YEARS. I REALLY MISS THOSE TIMES...
I recall when I first got this the "competitor" was Kung Fu on the NES. This game's first level alone had almost as much variety as the whole game of Kung Fu. Pretty damned good for its time. Depth of field simulation in the scrolling, and *zoomed in* boss battles. Sometimes, even though the Sega Master System didn't get as much support here in the states, it felt nice to have the superior system. (I wouldn't even want to try Space Harrier on the NES, for example).
OMG! I used to love this game way back in the day! Except it was too friggin' hard. I could never get past the 4th level. The speed run is VERY well done btw. rofl @ 3:32 I also love how he knocks out the bosses and then just strolls away. Also his girl, Kyoko was it? She looks like his goddamn mom. Thank you for creating this video.
When I was a kid I had to choose between this game and The Ninja ... back then I was mad for Martial Arts (Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and everything in between!). I chose The Ninja and when I finally saw how this game played I thought I had made the wrong decision but you know now that I think about it, I think I made the right one.
There is a chapter 7 on this game, well sort of. When you complete the game keep pressing up. Chapter 7 is basically fighting all the bosses in a row. But if you get hit fighting the previous boss your health bar doesn't get filled up on the next. Try it.
Fuck these concepts were ahead of their time: towards a final blow to finish it off as a special move, of the Kof type. I can bilieve that this was watchin in the 1987.
Oni was one of the most well though bosses I ever seen in my life... never managed to kill it until I discovered the trick of spamming kicks in the corner.
Enjoyed watching this, but this player left a lot of points on the table! Just played it recently and scored 810,000 by dragging out each round and punching as many guys as possible. Great game, used to love it.
I remember being 7 years old renting this game at the local video store back in the late 1980s. I remember renting and playing this game for 5 minutes and then taking it back to the video store to exchange it for another game. I have nothing against the game though!
This game was ridiculous when i was a kid. And one of the reason I love fighting games to this day. The first time I saw street fighter 2 I was like "Damn its like the bosses on Black Belt. Rita was ridiculously hard to beat but I never was able to beat Wang. Never.
what are u!!!? kind of god!! the way u defeat rita and the boss, and those blonde girls with the guns, just amazing! i can finish the game but not in the perfect way, not even a punch!
Yeah. I was always an extremely cautious and defensive player in everything I did (video games, chess and other strategy games, etc.), so Oni really messed with my style. Kinda glad he was there, though, since it made the young me realize that one cannot beat everything with defensive strategies and over-caution. You probably felt the same way. :)
that music had been in my head for 30 years
Me too... especially when you fight the boss. I been looking for this game
Me too mate, loved this game 👍
Same here. Especially that menu screen song
For anyone interested in what the Japanese characters displayed during the finishing moves for each boss mean, I got you covered:
鉄拳制裁 (Tekken seisai): Iron-fisted punishment
(Akutou gekiha): Crushing the villain
(Toukon ippatsu): Fighting spirit strike (This one's kind of hard to translate elegantly)
(Zange muyou): No use repenting
(Gokui sakuretsu): Bursting the vital points

@Gilson Marcondes Ladeira NANI!?
Ah takes me back to Christmas 1987 loved this game was challenging for a 11 year old at the time.
Hell yeah it was and so glad I flipped it
It was even more challenging for this seven year old!
My life has been transformed. I only just realized that you can actually hit Oni without losing any energy. Unbelievable.
I call bs!!! Oni was so hard to beat!!! The only way we found was sataying n the left corner and punching him immediately after he punched riki. For some reason he'd hit first and your energy would get low but in the end he dies first!

I used to spend hours playing this game over and over again!
Me to,and never passed rita :-(
+Tim Gebruers haha dude that rita was a b***
dekaoooo hahahah she was a pain in the ass indeed
That's unfortunate.
my hard enemy was oni, i tryed months until i got an idea (not like this rush video) to kill him
One of my favorite Master System games.
this is one of my all-time favorite games. i find it infinitely replayable. i love it to death.
Playing this game back in the day absolutely kicked my ass, and you beat it so easily and with no damage, I'm not worthy to watch this, but I did, lol, congrats man, super awesome reliving this.
1:15 is why i came here. I have been looking for the title of the game for over 30 years. Thank you for bring back childhood memories.

I never saw anyone beat the fourth boss without being attacked. Congratulation!
I want a Black Belt sequel, I’ve been waiting 25 years.
34 years now lol
Man, I remember the chapter 4 boss was hard as hell. In fact, as you can see here, killing this boss is very tricky. Beautiful memories *sniff*
Best game soundtrack

All you gotta do to beat him is just keep hitting the punch button he'll puntschu you punch him and you'll win with no energy
I think it's safe to say that you've mastered this game.
