    Cool project, my ideal "next boat" would be a slightly smaller open class derivative. Nice to see.
    Love working with foam and epoxy.

    PS Wow, the finish on your small "plywood" sailboat is astonishing ! Like glass ! 👍

    just a though why bit go for a ketch rig might be easier to source masts main doesnt need to be as tall with lower centreof effort etc. mizzens are so useful ..

    HI matt.
    I'm excited to follow your work, because I have a similar project in my garden. Only, my boat is quite smaller (36feet).

      Hi Henrik! What kind of boat are you fixing up?

      @@TheDuracellProject A Swedish boat called Tailwind 36. Like you, I'm planing some radical changes. But the last 2 months the project havd been on pause because of problems with my back. And the next 2-3 month the weather will be too bad. But from about April I expect to work again.

    Cool that it's still symmetrical after so many years. Did you not want to vacuum consolidate the laminating? Or even use infusion?

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would love to vac bag or infuse everything, but it's just not within our budget, especially for those big parts. There will definitely be parts in the future that I'll have to bag, which I love doing.

    I am curious your application of epoxy to the foam core. I've heard, and seen, that when epoxy is applied to one side of an object, like wood, that it will warp as the epoxy cures. That both sides have to be done in pretty close succession. Yet, it didn't look like you did that with your bulkheads. Can you please enlighten me?

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I fastened the foam to the table to do the laminating, so it was held flat. And as soon as it was cured on one side, within a day or two, I'd flip it over and do the other side. Never had a problem with warping. Thanks for the question.

    I like working with epoxy and have never used polyester resin. I know epoxy is more expensive. Is is better for this type of work?

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done a lot with both, and either would work fine for this. I prefer working with epoxy because it doesn't give off fumes as much as poly/vinyl resins. Epoxy is a bit stronger than vinyl but it tends to be a lot more expensive. I found a good deal on the epoxy I'm using so I'm going with it.

    Hi there, I’m just wondering why it seems you don’t glue the edges of the bulkheads when you install them?

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott, usually there is a big enough gap between the hull and the part I am installing that I can place the part in and inject glue into the gap. Or I will cove and tape one side and inject glue into the gap on the other side and do that at the same time as I am coving the opposite side…if that makes sense?

    Remember to get a mask for your wife also.. :) Not nice fumes from the epoxy

    • @evangatehouse5650
      @evangatehouse5650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most epoxies don't use solvents - no fumes. Polyester resins are nasty to breathe.

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fumes is a big reason I don't use poly/vinyl resins. Usually I would because they are usually so much cheaper, but I've found this epoxy from RAKA which if bought in bulk is sold at a great price. And the epoxy fumes are far easier to handle, but we wear masks to be safe.
      @ Löre, I bought Janni a mask, you are right she should be wearing one.
