    @Splitsie, BlackShadow is right about Klang vs. Clang.
    Klang is the ‘entity’.
    Clang is the effect.
    Qlang is the mental trauma.

    For the Shed, get a portable AC unit to cool/dehum. If limited by a power cord get a ecoflow or bluetti battery inverter to smooth out the amp draw. That way the extension cord wont over heat and you could slap a solar cell or 4 on the roof of the shed and reduce your grid load on your pc.

    Spinning a rotor with the aerodynamics mod absolutely creates lift. It's just that spinning it fast enough to get off the ground causes it to explode and/or crash the game.

      Yup, we tested that around the time of Wrong Way Up and the clang sparks were glorious

    1:35:00 The amazon thing is generally about tax, you have the holding/parent company registered in a low tax area then you funnel money from subsidiaries to the parent company by way of service/operating charges so the subsidary posts a loss or little profit so you dont need to pay taxes in the local countries the subsidiaries are located in.

    That rover gives me major Crablogger vibes. Also spicy shadow is fun.
    edit: more comments bellow as i get to them
    Ha a kg of skittles, those are rookie numbers, (no i'm mostly not serious, and yes i know it's bad).
    Ohhh is Shadow threatening to drag you into factorio. Yes please. If you want/need a super basics blueprint book i can put one together for you if you like?
    Regarding launching out of the gravity, if you know where orbit starts you can use the following formulae to figure out weather you can do it: S=(0.5*(P*9.81}*(V/(9.81*P))^2. Where S is the altitude in meters at which you'll start falling back down. P is the planetary gravity in G's, and V is the maximum velocity you can reach.
    Yes think faster splitsie. Poor Shadow.
    I hear you on the using apple stuff, android is rough enough for me as i was super late to the smartphone game, apple, it drives me nuts. NMS though i like, but totally fine if you don't.
    Yeah the empty nature of space engineers is why my co-op buddy bounced off it hard. He hates survival crafting without major stuff to do, especially actiony combat stuff.
    Also love the stories about the little one.
    The personification your thinking of is a mixture of anthropomorphisation and cargo cult.

  • @Pystro
    @Pystro ปีที่แล้ว

    You fixed it at the end, so all of this is moot.
    But the problem with your wiggles might stem from how far from pointing in the correct direction the piston stack starts out. If you don't allow it to be flopped 45° in the wrong direction (and maybe start it at 20° angled towards the correct side), it would probably wiggle much less. 3:39:02 The angle that it has when it snaps down is probably a good angle for it to have when it starts to snap up. 4:47:11 That's the fix.
    4:38:09 Yup, that _would_ work. You'd just need 50 pistons to reach 250m/s. And shadow already had problems at 27 pistons.
    4:24:39 Yup, that would be smart too.
    Also, stacking more pistons gives you more speed, but not more power. For that you'd need to move their attachment point further out. Or double the pistons on the other side.
    Here's how I'd design a catapult.
    I'd set an arm length, and (based on the number of pistons you intend to use and the launch speed you aim for) calculate the attachment point for the pistons from that. If the pistons can't get you to that launch speed, it's most likely because they don't have the required leverage or strength.
    Also, if you're concerned about the action of the bottom most piston not reaching the top pistons in time, you could try setting the top pistons to a lower speed. The (comparatively) larger speed of the lower pistons should counter the delay of their action traveling through the piston stack.
    If it doesn't work, either double the pistons on the other side, or re-spec everything with more pistons.
    Also, while I'm at it: If my math is right, then 250m/s launch speed should give you just under 8km at 0.8g. And for 2.5km, you need a launch speed of pretty much exactly 140m/s. (At a perfect 45° launch angle, which you probably want to go for, since the angle seems to be the greatest source of inconsistencies.) Since that matches with one of your attempts, I'm going to assume that my math was correct.
    And finally, for a less violent mechanism for resetting the mechanism, reverse the pistons in sequence?

    1:18:30 I think the architectural term for "bits of stone sticking out" is Corbel, or potentially flying buttress, based on your description.

    • @Flipsie

      Corbel seems closer to what I think they have (I think)

  • @BrokeWrench
    @BrokeWrench 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think a back wall and floor might work better for the catapult than a cup or spoon shape. It allows you to stay in place until the arm stops and should make it more consistent

  • @marcgarrett4401

    After considering the problem, I've got some ideas.
    Stacking pistons up adds speed
    Stacking them in rows ads torque.
    So having a stack of five up, will be faster than two rows of three, but they must be in a single row. My suggestion is to try two rows of five. If you need more speed add more vertical, if you need more torque add more rows, but only in a single line. Good luck.

  • @NuclearTreerat

    The whole "spinning rotor flight" trick actually does work with the right mod(s). Kanajashi did just that using the wing blocks from Aerodyanmics to make a helicopter gunship with the only thrusters being boosters in his Ares at War series. Now would that work on a server without invoking Klang?
    *side eye*
    Eh I suggest recruiting Capac or maybe TFE as the first test pilot. Probably the later as he still has a few shreds of trust left to play on.

    You might find that, with the catapult, if you make one piston slightly slower than the rest the initial acceleration is a little slower possibly giving you a flatter trajectory and at the end of the stroke that slower piston will still be extending acting as a buffer to remove some of the harshness of the stop

    I've never really had the issue of a welding ship not having the components I need because most of what it's going to use is steel plate... I mean, sure, it's work to load it up and maneuver into position, but so is jogging back and forth from inventory access.

      Re: CLANGapult
      1. What's the skinny with the catapult? Are you two chucking H2 tanks or Trojan rabbits at the enemy base instead of remote missiles?
      2. Maybe stick a timer block or two on the thing, so that it launches and retracts at 2 different speeds?

    @Splitsie, you think you could set the ice mining rig up to mine and process until full while yall aren’t there???? So that when you need to do a hydro run all that you need to do is fly over hook up and restart the denote to start it mining again???

    • @Flipsie
      @Flipsie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine on its own, probably not, but once the cargo containers are full there's enough ice to process for a long while so it can do that while we do other things :)

    "Honest, officer. It was a complete accident. We were just testing our automated hydrogen delivery system. It wasn't our fault that they landed on your silver mining base!"
    Also ... "Don't try this at home. We're what you call professionals."
    One potentially space efficient way to add more pistons would have be to use (slightly) extended pistons in place of the conveyor tubes, then have those pistons operate in reverse from the first set of pistons.

    Writing as I watch, but here's how I would've solved your ejector issue: Replace the pipe before the hinge with a rotor, replace the hinge with a T piece. Leave the connector for ice where it is currently (though perhaps with a sorter that has stone on blacklist) and add another connector/sorter on the other side of the T piece with stone on a whitelist.

    4:35:01 not all your pistons are extended

    • @Flipsie
      @Flipsie  ปีที่แล้ว

      The all look to be extended to me, they were only pushing out to a little over 10cm so it's barely visible. Unfortunately I think that may have been part of the problem, but pushing so little the jiggle becomes more than the push and it all kinda slows down. Next week I would love to try a bunch of hinges and then just make the launching arm as long as needed to get up to the required speed at 60rpm :)
