I have to admit I'm a little sad to see 2001: A Space Odyssey becoming less well known to the public. The sheer number of references to it that people must be missing in other media of the past 60 years, just by itself, is staggering.
It's sometimes amusing where people credit an idea as beginning, sometimes maddening, I guess at least the concept itself isn't lost though (not sure I'd be this ambivalent if someone was crediting a TikTok influencer with something instead of the original creator though) :P
Another game where the Splitsie probably wishes he had Superior Red Batteries to look after his power needs. Not that he’s ready to admit that. But the RBLF knows he wishes for Red Batteries on the inside. 😂😂😂😂😂
3:18:09 - What is the difference between a Torus and a Ring? The Torus is a geometrical shape characterized by having one "true" hole - which means no matter how you deform the object it will have that hole -inside- the shape. (Yes, this makes a coffee mug a torus). A Ring is a mathematical construction that has two operations (often addition and multiplication), which is an Abelian group under addition, has additive inverses, and -... Oh, you were talking about the object "A ring"? - Yeah, this is why linguistical uniqueness is important in mathematics.
You know, I loved Descent and I have been trying forever to remember the name of the silly thing. THANK YOU. I think your navigation is perfect, you go the opposite way you should almost every time lol I had a good friend who could get lost getting out of a parking lot... the really scary thing was he was a Master Navigator for a C-130 squadron and could drop cargo or troops on a dime. lol Just couldn't help getting lost on the ground. I am really glad you found this game and I hope you enjoy it, oh and umm think Stationeers level of power management for storage.
It's funny, I'm probably not that dissimilar to your friend, for me, navigation is the first thing I stop paying attention to when my attention is being split by multiple things, unless I'm already aware that knowing where to go is going to be super important :P This kinda showed in Planet Crafters with TFE, since I knew he wouldn't navigate I actually learnt that map quite quickly :D
btw breathedge got building towards the end of it's development, so might be worth revisiting... haven't played a lot with it myself but i know you could make bases and stuff :)
I don't think I did, but I also realised by the end of this that I'd like to wait till it has more before I do a subnautica to myself again and play out what it has so it becomes harder to come back to when it has more :P
you, caught that too, I've noticed that years back thinking what's wrong here didn't he see that. I also figure he pay's more attention to his streaming chat than the game item salvaging/collecting than anything.
I still disagree, breathedge played a lot more like a point and click adventure game that just happened to be first person, while this plays very similarly to a more chill subnautica to me
@@Flipsie At the very least, the way you float around in a asteroid/debris field picking up blobs on a breath timer... is extremely similar. Even if the gameplay loop is different.
@@delphicdescantThe dev is clearly so much a fan of Breath Edge and Subnautica that they copied both games, and then started trying to make their own game. Pick up blobs in space with very similar Newtonian physics, and then also pick some researches off of bigger asteroids. Intermittently stopping at some ruined space wreckage PoIs. :D
25:40 that base... Yeah, subnautica inspired certainly. Damn, as this carried on I am wondering if the subnautica Devs are getting a cease and desist together.
Descent was my favorite game back in the day. One time in my communications class a bunch of people were playing, i jumped into the game and was wiping them out because i used the entire 3d space rather than treating it as a 2d space
not sure if you know yet... you can use scrapper tool on larger boulders too. whack the asteroid in question a few times then pull out drill and see if it did any damage. silver nodes take quite a few whacks. have fun : )
Since you get the materials back when you deconstruct something, why not carry the materials to make an enterable habitat with you? You can put one up in a few seconds and refill your oxygen for free in it. Makes exploring so much easier. You won't need power for anything but free oxygen pretty much anywhere could be a powerful tool.
I really think this game deserves more credit. I've seen other people talk about this game like a rip-off of Subnautica. It's really more of a love letter.
Don't forget to make the bigger jetpack. Also, the laser tool is great on the drones. As far as "missing something", you kinda went in the wrong direction for the story flow. Try going the other way, towards the area with that cave you discovered (in the direction of that "looks like a gate of some kind". You might have better luck getting some of the things you're needing...
I think I like the design process as much as the build, but for a streaming setup it makes so much more sense to have the design be part of it - especially when I can take feedback from the live chat as well as from comments here on youtube to make things work even better :)
I totally agree with the proximity crafting thing. Seeing you play Conan I reinstalled the game. Not having the proximity crafting caused me to stop playing. I'm going to have to look and see if someone has made a mod for it to add that feature.
True, though I still feel like the chance of that is incredibly small, Capac might have a different opinion since he's actually been recognised a couple of times at his day job :D
I may well do so given all the other different games I've been messing around with over the past month or so (which has been quite fun for me), though it's a tough one to bring myself to play as I'm not a big fan of the larger game loop that it has going on so I'll need to be in the right headspace to not be unfairly negative
I know I did this again but.. how about Guns of Icarus Alliance? a bit of PvE steampunk skybattles, Comodore Cappac at the helm, former SIr Spltisie Splitisington, disgrased former royal airforce engineer now slavin under the heel of the brutal Comodore and his fist Mate, Mistress Blackshadow famed markswoman know also as the blackspider, boatswine TFE also knows as Tifany since a drunken tatto accsident which left him with the markign I'm am Tiffany tattoed on arms and lower back. Lovinglie cared for by the Ships doktor, Mr Wasted, who thretens all who get sick with throwing them overboard since the are now only Wasting Space ;)
@Flipsie have you ever played Above Earth? Seems like exactly the kind of brutally unforgiving space survival sim that would tickle your pickle, but I haven't seen it on any of your channels.
I played the demo of this and liked it. I will probably hold off on getting it until it's finished or at least is further along in development. (trying not to buy EA games)
I agree it’s more a less intense subnautica, but in space. Breathedge and subnautica are similar as well, openish world nominal survival with a story line that isn’t on rails but requires progression for crafting advances, and this game has some of those elements as well so I can see the comparisons to both. As for Ostranauts…. That has been my latest purchase and definitely a serious addiction of mine. It has a more simplistic engineering and physics model than SE, but still complex enough and the navigation is enough of a challenge it is fun. Without going into spoilers there’s a few mini plots that make for some fun, and random interactions that can spice up gameplay. I will say this much, if you do play…there are 1-2 mods currently that are QoL musts, especially for those of us that are all for resource accumulation but also crave solid organization. Highly recommend Ostranauts, but I recognize it’s a bit of a departure from most of the games you stream.
I can see why so many games do it though, it's much easier on most players for it to be that way. I think Space Engineer's compromise on that front is a good one though - having dampeners be optional to slow you down or being able to drift if you switch them off
14:34 🎶"I said, 'Do you speaka my language.' He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich..." 🎶
Subnautica, breathedge, Astrometica, Space Enginers, etc are all cool games.
But only Breathedge have the best "bad"/dad jokes of all time
Only breathedge has shawarma.
Scrapping whacker works remarkably like the infamous potato peeler. Also, Hey, it's another gerbil habitat game!
2:21:05 Someone in the dev team has been watching Assertive Acquisitions.
Lol 🤣

same could be said of Dr Strangelove, another amazing film from Kubrick

The scrapper tool is just an expensive tech hammer.

There even is an Easter Egg hidden somewhere that is a direct nod towards Subnautica, so yeah, they're definitely not shy about that comparison ^ ^
2:22:51 They really need to get you and Capac to do the VA for this log.
i swear Splitsie i mean no offense but i swear you have no peripheral vision sometimes when looking for things...

Yup, about to head to bed so I can be ready to deal with toddler christmas :D
Hope you have a good one too :)
@Flipsie yep, we have 12 hours to prepare for a 6y/o Christmas madness.

when you go into theta9 the vent thats smokingin the hallway look in that smoking tunnel for an easter egg from subnautica cant take it but its there
Dangit Splitsie, the game's default volume without music is low enough that I need to go find my "space game" playlist...
I figure it's better you find yours than be forced to use mine :D

There are several that allow you to pull resources from close by storage that you need to craft the thing you've currently selected
I reckon adding one of those mods will be high on the list when I return to it :)
There is a non-zero chance the devs watch your channel, so it's actually possible one of your streams inspired that log.
True, though I still feel like the chance of that is incredibly small, Capac might have a different opinion since he's actually been recognised a couple of times at his day job :D

@Flipsie What could be more fun than a Sisyphean attempt to pay off a devastating amount of debt? 😂
Huh. The Mighty Jingles also uploaded an Astrometica video...

Yes Splitsie has done multiple videos playing Enshrouded with friends.

SE2 probably won't be near what I want for 5 years, after modders have added what I want. I don't expect much from Keen.
Riftbreaker!

I'm thinking I'll try to save this until the story is finished too, I ruined Subnautica for myself by playing it too early :/
i think everone , for got about , breathage its more like that
Oh wow, the Devs of this game are Splitsie and Capac fans 😅😅😅
ATLAS is 1000% more GRIND than ARK. Capac will NOT enjoy it.
