Met Jamie last week. He came to our surf camp, Ocean Experience, in San Diego. He was wonderful with the groms (kids). Gave them an awesome inspirational talk and then helped push them into waves. While Jamie is an amazing surfer, he's also a really down-to-earth, humble person. He's a great role model--for kids, surfers, for anyone really passionate about something. Aloha.
So... I am an old lady...pushin 50... I went to Turtle Bay and took another surfing class. I am really terrible but I keep hoping if I don't give up, I will get it. I was lucky enough to take a class... WITH THIS GUY!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? HAD NO IDEA!!! If you are lucky enough to get to OAHU, staying at Turtle Bay.... ASK FOR THIS GUY!! Really great, informative class and was really helpful... And old lady here had no idea... I was taking a class with world ranked Big Wave Surfer...Jamie was so NICE and SO HUMBLE... WOW!! :)!!!
redbull - this video is quite professionally made. Congratulations. Very good documentary. The way you photographing Jamie ... makes his eyes like he is the actual part of ocean.
wanted: episodes 4 - 6. Episodes 1-3, totally awesome! Thank. In my eyes, this is as good as it gets! The best on yous tube. Other than the missing episodes 4-6.
great short film!!! you said, "the sponsors reaped the benefits" if you look at it this way... if the sponsors don't get paid, how would they be able to pay your monthly salary??? can you imagine having no sponsors & just being a privateer? you will not be getting any monthly paychecks, your only source of income would be based on your winnings & some under the table side jobs perhaps. you got it good. be stoked!!!!
I'm so lucky to ride the Bay and other big North Shore breaks. I trained so hard for 2 years and then the magic happened. Big Sunset and K-Land were my favorite. 25 Foot Bay was when I considered myself a waterman. These guys are waterman, there are very few of us.
Actually Kelly took 2nd behind flea at the 2004 mavericks contest...and was on the invite list this year...so yes I do see kelly surfing mavs occasionally
Bruce Lee Uhmm Balancing in the beginning yes.. but once you find your stance you sorta of just know where to stand and it goes away... but its just like skateboarding where you gotta find the right spot to hit to complete your trick... so yeah id say the exact same but just different haha xD
I really want to try surfing some day. Have a hotel room or apartment for a month near an area for surfing. Just surf and/or play guitar all day. Sounds like a great time to me.
Did anyone see how well he sucked it up and was forced to man up and move on , no filed complaint? Favoritism , he was totally screwed by the judges and everyone’s complaining about the swell being a miss and small waves? Why did they start it ? Who called that winner of a decision? Tough moment bro

Corporate money always wins out over the spirit of the competition. The organizers should try to make it a fair event for the athletes that put in the effort of years of training and they put their lives on the line so the organizers can make a profit. Nice piece and I don't even surf.

The sponsors did force the event to happen when conditions were not right. It is probably not good for a competitor to say it but it's true.
