very well presented. Being from Australia I find this to be very interesting learning about others history and key events, coupled with the fact I love bowie knives makes me really appreciate you posting this.
@Lucid337 yes I know it was a stretch but the points I was illustrating were, "...dressed like a fronteer's man...", and, "...men of the time carried a hunting knife..." Please forgive my artistic licence...
The painting you show several times as being Jim Bowie ( the one with the tan coat and show him holding a rifle) is actually Stephen Austin and it hangs in the Texas House of Representatives.
I was brought up to be told to never use a knife to fight with , only cowards use knives i was told , use your fists and never kick a man when he he down . Only thing i ever remember my useless father ever telling me that was worth remembering.
Cross the River. Just like a more famous duo did. But in a more... civilized place: Aaron Burr and Alex Hamilton crossed the Hudson to fight in a wild, lawless, stanky swamp of a land that's little changed since. Jersey.
The Burr/Hamilton duel was in Weehawkin, on a bluff or palisade as they like to say in NJ. You have to go a bit further south to get into the swamp. As far as "changed", I dought they had all those highways and bridges thru and over the swamp back then. And certainly, Jimmy Hoffa wasn't buried under a toxic waste dump under those bridges either...
I was always thought the Portrait Of James Bowie was genuine after reading Three roads to the Alamo it appears it is assumed to be James ..no proof or provenance exists. But it is legend .......If you see a portrait of Rezin Bowie it looks exactly the same man albeit older then the one associated as Jim Bowie
Interesting point. I didn't consider the reason for the background duel as the story is really about what happened after that. The duel, as most think was really between Bowie and his nemesis.

👍Probably the Best Historical Video of James Bowie’ and the Sandbar Fight on TH-cam 🇺🇸
I sustained a generous fit of chuckles when you spoke of titles, friends and imagination.
Shame this is not the case in western politics 😉
It was a simpler time, when a good bar fight could make you famous.

I'm sorry but I am wrong. That portrait is David Crokett.
Contemporaries described as young blonde adonis
Good men both appreciate history and can admit when they've erred. You seem to qualify.

Davy Crockett
Interesting
The real Bowie knife was nothing more than a butcher's knife,' what more could you ask for.''

He carried the sandbar knife rest his life? He had his bowie and others most likely lost one
They believe to have found it and it's at the Alamo in display. I'll check out the mission Monday

@@BossinAZ_EnT Neither Jim Bowie or George Washington had any descendants
It seems like you could have told us at least a little bit about the fight. 😡
"Part 1" in the title of the video implies that more is to follow.
