Hi Lori, How exciting for you to start painting again! Enjoy 🎨👩🏻🎨
This was so helpful! I painted along in my sketchbook using acrylic paints. After a bit, I went off on my own, but the marks I got were amazing...much looser than I usually paint. I cannot wait to try this with my own still life! Thanks for all you do!👩🏼🎨👩🏼🎨👩🏼🎨
Hi Cindy! Well done to you! So pleased the video has been helpful! 📽🍋

Really enjoyed the video, it was very enjoyable to watch too. i'm a professional artist and it was a real pleasure to see how others work. I was married years ago, I also used be called Mr B, my ex wife was a miserable old moose though, she was never happy like this lady seems.
Thank you Jason! Pleased you enjoyed the video!📽😊
I'm watching this lovely video again (now taking time to appreciate the lovely table cloth your still life is sitting on. So pretty!) Am getting another look at your brush strokes as a friendly reminder to myself! Thank you.

I love the still life. I’m a beginner and I have been doing a boat load of still life paintings. I try for one a day or so. I enjoy your style and It helps watching you paint One day soon I will get out and paint out doors.
Pleased you are finding the videos helpful and happy painting! 🎨👨🏼🎨
Your textural brush strokes are quite wonderful--loose but accurate. That has been the most inspiring lesson for me. Well done. You two are very amusing as well!
Thank you for your kind comments Emily! 😍📽👩🏻🎨
Clare, this is an interesting still life! Temperature here in Champaign, Illinois, USA is 18 degrees Fahrenheit, extremely cold. I do understand. Thanks to Mr. B for his contribution to the video. The addition of leaves to the lemon was very clever, great idea! I love to paint still life, classical style. Watching you paint in one go is very brave of you and it looks wonderful! Lots of inspiration here. Thanks so much for sharing your process. I will definitely try it! Blessings and take care.❤❤❤
Greetings Crisalida! Thank you for watching and pleased it is helpful. Go well! 🎨👩🏻🎨📽
i love your style. i love the still life but even after oil painting for over 30 yrs, i still cannot get my lights and darks right. your painting is so beautiful ❤️love all the texture 👍🏼
Hi Sharon, tonal values can make it break a painting. Even having awareness of this is a good step! Do you use your phone as a tool - changing your scene and painting to black and white? Best wishes Clare 💕🎨
@@ClareBowenArtist good morning Clare, i watched you on my tablet. i have been doing watercolors the last couple of yrs. but you make me want to back to oils! thanks for the advice and looking forward to another video….thank you🥰

You are so welcome Carolyn, thanks for watching!🙏❤️
The pinning of the leaves was genius! Could you remind us what you outfitted as your paint holder. I remember it's quite portable. And thanks to Mr. B for the behind-the-scenes 🤣
Thank you Helen! Needs must with regard to the leaves! The paint holder is called a Palette Garage.🎨📽
Hi Clare, great to get another video on a Sunday. I love to watch you painting. I could see it was a little tricky here and there but ended well. Thanks to Mr B too.
Thank you Richard! Indeed, most paintings cause problems but that is part of the process! 🎨👩🏻🎨💕
Greetings from British Columbia, Canada! Love these lemons and the cute little pot! I’ve sent you an email about the September workshops. It would be such a dream experience!
Hi Louise we got your email and replied. So nice of you to want to come! Best wishes Clare
So beautiful! Thank you
Our pleasure Ligia! ❤️
Absolutely beautiful artwork thank you Clare and Mr B loved liked subscribed 😊
Many thanks and welcome Deborah!😊❤️
Hello Claire , viewing from Florida in the USA. I am not an oil painter buy I am a heavy body acrylic painter. A lot of the oil colors are same as acrylic so I am here to learn from you. Thank you Mr.B for filming ❤
Hello Angela and welcome Florida! Hope you find the demonstrations helpful! 😊📽❤️
Très joli.
Thank you ☺️

Thank you!👩🏻🎨❤️
Great video 🤩 Love the blue pot and yellow lemons. It’s amazing how you can do a painting in an hour! I love the thick brushstrokes and the painting is beautiful. I will keep practicing to try and speed up a bit! And to stop fiddling 😆
Hi Julie, pleased you enjoyed the video and the subject!🍋📽
Beautiful ❤️ best wishes from your new subscriber
Thank you and welcome Shakun! 👩🏻🎨❤️
Greetings to you and your lovely houseband
Greetings to you Alessandro! 👩🏻🎨📽❤️
Clare, what medium do you use? Your paint flows beautifully!
I use Gamsol, a odourless turps product!
Many Thanks Clare for sharing, a lovely still life. Just a question, What is your opinion on doing thumbnail sketches as prep for a painting- Still life and/or Landscape?
I generally don’t do sketches as a prelim! But will return to a land or sea scape many times to improve familiarity! 👩🏻🎨❤️
Really enjoyed this video along with your thought processes along the way, beautiful painting. Is it a varnished board you are mixing on? Thanks to you and thank you Mr B for showing us that blissful view from the window as well as doing the recording.
Hi Susan it’s a glass top. I had it cut specially for this table. It’s nice to mix on and easy to clean!
Thank you for watching 💕
Clare, question for you regarding painting blue and white porcelain like the Chinese vases, what colors do you mix for the porcelain and the blue if I may ask?
Hi Gerrie Kay! Blue part: Ultramarine blue, permanent rose & a little cad yellow
White part: all 3 primaries mixed which = a neutral & add white to make it lighter. 🎨❤️
I can’t thank you enough! I had many mixing piles and going nowhere. LOL
Hello Clare and Mr B, very beautiful still life. I could see how the colors compare to each other. Indeed, at first it seemed to me that the shadow of the lemons was too dark but when you put the color in the light everything was perfect. Congratulations to you ! I would love to participate in one of your workshops unfortunately it will not be possible due to my geographical distance and my basic level in English. Too bad for me. See you soon.
Hello Jacqueline, thank you for your comments! Sorry you feel you can’t come to one of my workshops, you would always be welcome! 🎨👩🏻🎨😍
very good, interesting
Glad you think so Joan, thank you!❤️
Мне очень нравится ваша техника! Очень хорошо передан свет и цвет. Прекрасно!
Sadly, wasn’t able to obtain a translation!🥲
@@ClareBowenArtist I really like your writing technique. Color and light are remarkably reproduced. Well done!
Thank you for your lovely video. I am a beginner and I am interested that your pallet has a brown backing . I would have trouble seeing the colours clearly on that I think. I always use a white plate. Am I missing something?
You are most welcome Yvie! You are not missing anything! 🎨👩🏻🎨❤️

Love your videos! I need to work on getting thicker paint down like you do. Could you tell me what the dimensions of the board is that you have your painting on? I need to have my husband make me one. You and Mr B make a great team! Thank You!
Hi Jacklyn it’s an 18x24cm quite a useful still life size! Good luck with your painting 😊🎨Clare
Great video - thanks ! Can you tell what it is all of blobs of oil paint are sitting in along the back of glass surface where you are mixing ? I like how it keeps the paint palatte so neat. Are each of the blobs of paint separated by anything or do they all touch each other ?
Thanks Faith, glad you enjoyed the video! 📽 It is called a Palette Garage from an American company called Great Art Tools! The paints are not separated by anything so they do touch each other!🎨👩🏻🎨❤️
Thanks Clare. @@ClareBowenArtist
Did you buy in U.S ? I am looking online and I cannot see it for sale in UK.
Lovely painting. Where can I buy Gerstaeker linen boards in the UK?
Hi Janice, thank you! You can get them online from the Great Art shop, who I think imports them from Germany!👩🏻🎨❤️
Thanks Clare.@@ClareBowenArtist
Hello Clare, Could you comment on the wooden attachment you use on your Best studio easel, I presume to adapt the easel to hold small canvases? Is it something one could purchase (I'm in the US) or did Mr. B fashion it for you specially? Thank you and I continue to learn from and love your demonstrations!
Hi Barbara Mr B made it for me. I could send you some photos of it if there’s someone who could make one for you? 🎨😊
That would be grand, thank you! I am a beginner and have been looking at Hframe easels for home instead of using my French easel which has very splayed legs and takes up a lot of floor space. But the H frames can’t accommodate the small easels I am using at the proper height. I appreciate your generosity.
@@ClareBowenArtist Could I have some photos of this board as well? Thanks in advance😊. How I love your style of painting😊😊
👍
Thank you Allen! 👏👩🏻🎨
Sorry missed what you blue color was for the background. Thanks.
Ultramarine I think 😊
Hi Clare where did you get the adjustable board to hold different size canvases?
It is called an Open Box M. They are now out of production but you may be able to pick one up secondhand!
I have been having a ‘Clare Bowen YT’ binge this afternoon 😂. I have a question, probably a stupid one, but as a fairly new oil painter I’m concerned with cracking and the fat over lean principle. Is Gamsol oily and make the first layer too oily and slower to dry or is it ok to use? I have so many questions and have had concerns that have held me off oils for quite a while but slowly learning. Thanks Clare. 💝
Hi Cassie, good question, it can feel a bit daunting to start. Gamsol is not oily it has a similar texture to Turps. I use it as my first layer and it’s fine. I wouldn’t worry and cracking…hope that helps 🎨😊
@@ClareBowenArtist thanks Clare. A couple of my pieces have some cracks after I’ve let them dry, which has been disappointing and made me a little scared of the oils. I’ve bought some Gamsol so will start trying that and making my first layer thinner as well just to be safe. Thank you and keep up the amazing work 😊💖
Very lovely!!! Thank you. Questions: what is the devices you use to hold your panel and your paints?
Thank you Barbara!😊 it’s called a Palette Garage from the USA. Mine is an 14” you can order them from Great Art Tools. Best Clare
@@ClareBowenArtist thank you!!
Is that paint holder called paint garage?
Yes sort of! It’s called a Palette Garage for an American company called Great Art Tools! 🎨
Painting winter
Thank you Olga! ❤️
Clare what type of Rosemary rigger brushes are you using ?
Natural or synthetic?
Synthetic ivory no.4
Hi you kept dipping your brush in that little cup was it turpentine or linseed oil or?? And where can I buy MDF board that you showed on TH-cam Thank you
Hi Susie, it’s turpentine. I brought the mdf from wessex framers. If you contact them they can help!
@@ClareBowenArtist thank you for your reply. Actually looking for MDF board I'm sure I can find that/ Again thank you for your time
Is the table covered with a plastic pallet?
It is a clear Perspex sheet!
If I could, what colors are in your palette?
Hi Gerrie Kay! My colours are Titanium, cad lemon yellow, cad yellow, raw Sienna , scarlet lake, permanent rose, Viridian, cerulean, cobalt, ultramarine & cobalt violet.
Scarlet lake is a Winsor & Newton brand
@@ClareBowenArtist Thanks so much for sharing🥰
How did you get your understanding of shadow colors?
Hi Andrea, colour theory helps with shadows. Sometimes complimentary colours from the subject are in them 😊🎨
You're using pure turpentine inside your studio? Aren't you worried about the strong fumes?
I’ve changed to gamsol now because of the fumes 😊
What kind of red cloth is that?
Red cloth - not sure what you mean? 😊
