    Population does not have a correlation with medals. It is dependent on how many of the population are trying to win a medal in the Olympics. For example, Jamaica has a very small population but have a culture of sprinting…so, more people there are making it their life’s mission to win a medal. That gets reflected in the medals tally. In India our traditional focus has been education…we are just beginning to focus on Olympic sports. I think we will see a steady improvement. Don’t expect miracles. Olympic medalists are created over a span of a generation…not in 4 years.

    • @svs6666
      @svs6666 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's not just culture but genetics as well. Jamaicans and Kenyans are blessed with sprinting and marathon friendly bodies - I don't think we are winning track medals in global sprinting or marathon events. Neither do we have a college or school system that identifies and promotes sporting talent. We are $3k country where sports is managed by an administrative bureaucracy and is totally unaccountable. Country of $1.5b could only send 115 athletes? That too is sub par. Industrialized economies complete for every medal, and send 500 athletes.

Discuss federations individually (which one is doing well, which is bad) - of course this will require doing some research but will allow you to discuss something of substance rather than this usual ranting, 2. Discuss and analyze the impact of Khelo India, TOPS, OGQ. As journalists, I hope you will at least know what these are. I don’t have high hopes😂. Just like pretty much everything in India, even journalism and genuine criticism is subpar and average.

    The diversity of options when you opt for academics (instead of sports) is higher. For e.g. You aspire to be IAS. Even if you don't get selected for IAS, you can use that skill to apply for state civil services. If you don't get selected for State Level Civil Services, you can still apply for other competitive exams like - railways, banking, postal, education etc. Even if you don't make it to any of the above "govt elite jobs", you can still make a decent living by joining private services like - a coaching centre, academy, private school teacher in a Tier 2 town, or at the worst you can offer tuition services to your local children in a small town or village and STILL MAKE A SURVIVABLE LIVING. The risk is less in academics, as they discussed.

The other African's in India are the Jarawa tribe and the deep jungles of Sri Lanka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Orissa. All school level early age talents must be supported and encouraged by giving them rewards scholarships and incentives to inspire them to perform even better under best training coaching & guidance. Investing only in best athletes of elder ages will never create a larger pool of talented players in every sport 🇮🇳

    This makes me question, when we don't have an ecosystem in the country to nurture these sports i.e the financial returns for investors are just not there in sports like javelin etc as opposed to cricket which is very profitable, why are we trying to win medals against countries where the fabric of their economics is completely different - high income countries where people play sport for leisure and can have a good job after their playing days are over, why are we trying to compete with them when our per capita income is so low, where 50% of the people suffer from malnutrition, where there is no proper sanitation for a significant proportion of the rural population, doing well in the Olympics is a byproduct of improving all these things, if we as a country really become passionate about uplifting everybody and not just the Ambanis and Adanis, then within 50 years the Olympic story can change drastically.

    China went 32 without appearing in the Olympics. They made their return in 1984 and won 15 gold medals. India is lightyears from competing with top tiers and maybe should focus on beating Ethiopia or Uzbekistan 😂. Your claim to fame is Criket, which is played by 5 other poor countries and Australia. Nothing more than a colonial game, but where is your football, volleyball, tennis, basketball teams at? No wonder the British sailed on you with 5 ships and immediately dominated. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Growing up for me meant I could do my studies, hang with friends and I joined several sports teams with my school. It's not rocket science.
