This debate always happens whenever the Olympics concluded.. Nothing changes..again this type of debate happens after 2028 la Olympics these things will never end ..We can't compete the bigger countries in sports... Simple is that we don't have that sporting culture and that infrastructure and moreover that sincerity..

Do you often get to see national and international level competitions of weightlifting, fencing , swimming , gymnastics , boxing , shooting etc etc on tv? No bcs they never get broadcasted.. and they are not advertised properly to create hype so that public watch them.. unlike cricket..Do you get to watch indian football matches on tv? How we are supposed to watch them throughout the year if it doesn't even come on tv??
I don't know about others but i always get to watch cricket being broadcasted most of the time in all ten sports channels and bcs tennis is my fav sport so i watch it regularly, in that also no india tennis matches come only inyernational so you can't evwn get to know more indian tennis players other than some famous ones.... other than that sony shows golf , motor bike racing , canoeing , sailing (all foreign matches) so what am i supposed to watch????

toh 'sir' kyun bolte ho ? .. thats sheepish. Yeh 'sir' 'sir' culture hi mediocrity & submission ka root cause hai. Call people by name.. respect yourself & the person you are addressing to. Once you call someone a 'sir' .. or 'saheb', you are already putting them up on a pedestal & lose your ability to question them, to be critical of them when they slip up. Stop this mediocre 'sir' & 'saheb' culture. Calling people by their name is the most respect you can give anyone. Even elders .. except grandpa / grandma level elders.

The only person who made sense was the lady who spoke last. The others were just showing off their arrogance and have no idea about the sacrifices a sportsman has to make to compete at the Olympics. You train 4 years of your life, sacrifice your childhood and youth for that moment and the margin of error is so thin. How many of these journos will allow their children to make those sacrifices? In a region the common discourse has idioms like "kheloge kudoge toh ho jaoge kharab, padhoge likhoge toh banoge nawab"
How can we expect to win medals.
And let's look at bigger picture, the underlying fact is that after every national achievement done by an individual, we go crazy on a social media frenzy and create demigods out of individuals.
We, as a nation need to look into our common discourse, which celebrates mediocrity and hinders excellence.
Remember these medals are not because of system but despite the system.
It's a shame that one sixth of humanity doesn't has a solid sporting culture despite having a great history.

Each sports federation will have their own world tournament on an annual basis and if you are on the podium for those tournaments (like the indian shooters and the javelin thrower), then you are considered one of the favorites. If you are lower ranking in these tournaments but just did enough to qualify for the Olympics for your nation, congrats and enjoy the Olympic experience. Unless you get very lucky, you will not hit the podium. I don't know how many of India's 100+ athletes are favorites (based on their achievements in the annual tournament of their sports). People can usually predict the medals of each country based on these annual tournaments. Simone Biles got gold in the 2023 world championships for all around. Gold for all around gymnastics in the Olympics. Quan Hongchan got gold in the 2024 world championship for 10 m platform diving. gold in Olympics. please see Indian athlete's progress in these tournaments and support them with resources to win in those tournaments. Do not only look every 4 years in the Olympics and expect a 12th place finisher in the annual tournaments to medal.

These are the same channels and same anchors which only wake up to other sports once in 4 years and for the rest of the time dish out cricket news for more eye balls! And now the hypocrites are discussing why do we not have enough medals in Olympics. We need to take bold decisions and all the money should not go to one sport (look at what players got for winning T20 WC), the monopoly of BCCI should end, we people should start celebrating other sports and downplay cricket and the channels must not cover only cricket (irrespective of eyeballs), only then we can have a culture of sports in this country. If cricketers keep getting so much money (thanks to IPL) every child will want to become a cricketer, why will they embrace other sport? Only after these hard steps are taken, we can then start working on the points these people are discussing. What they are discussing is only software, which cannot work without a robust operating system. Throughout this discussion they are conveniently ignoring the operating system, and the entire discussion is on software!

Too many people speaking over each other! There are a few things I would shift in this conversation: from blame to responsibility -- nobody wants to take blame, but it's reasonable to take responsibility; incentives matter, but the joy of performance matters more; celebrate every win (even 4th); make the athletes the center of the decisions -- if that means better athletes must be recruited, then so be it; focus on training and development for the long-term, not just for the next Olympics. This is a very short-sighted discussion. Looking at Indian athletes from outside of India, it's great to see so many doing well. It's true that the winning spirit needs to be there, but it has to be about more than just winning for the sake of winning. It should be about the joy of performance and excellence, and representing your country. That takes support, enthusiasm and encouragement, even if athletes are in 4th place. Then, they will want to come back and go for the gold rather than quitting. And, BTW, no country or its people is entitled to ANYTHING! Learn, work hard, train, do your absolute best and win. That's it.
