Lana’s genre of music is called Hollywood Sadcore, she’s has been known for her frequent theme of 1950-60’s Americana. She has been influenced by many artists including: Amy whinehouse, Bobby vinton, Nirvana, frank sinatra and much more. She’s experimented in many genres and her music usually has a hip hop, dream pop or psychedelic vibe to say the least! With that said please react to West Coast by Lana Del Rey
She was born in Lake Placid, New York. You definitely got it with the old school thing, in fact she is fascinated by the 60s and 70s, and with the past in general. She also has this dreamy vibe and she used to define her music as "Hollywood sadcore". Her first major label album, "Born to die" is hip hop influenced, while her second album, "Ultraviolence" has a more rock vibe to it. Then "Honeymoon" is more dreamy, "Lust for Life" is more pop and her latest album "Norman Fucking Rockwell" reminisces of the 70s while still playing with alternative sounds. I think you should check out either "Born to die" or "Video games", or even "Blue Jeans", which are her first hits. These are all from the album "Born to die", while "Shades of cool" is from Ultraviolence. Beautiful reaction, I'm glad you like her!
Ah a New Yorker! Nice. I secretly live in the 50s in my head, so I love it! This was seriously way cooler than I thought it would be. I feel so silly for never even giving these different people a change just because of being closed minded or whatever. This is awesome. I appreciate you watching and for letting me know all of this! This won’t be the last we hear from her on this channel! (I still can’t think of what the style of music I was thinking about is.)
most of her music is like this, she’s so beautiful and talented. She’s so unique, we love our queen! glad you like her!! she’s the most American person lol she’s always with a U.S. flag 🇺🇸
The music video is about a two lovers but she died when she was younger and that’s why the old men always seeing her young... he looks sad remembering her, they also show some clips when they were young.
Natural Reactions This isn’t true, lol. This is only this guy’s interpretation, but you can interpret the video and lyrics however you want. Genius.com has noted that in this song, “[Lana] expresses a strong sense of lament and pain, as well as powerful desire to understand and fix [her lover’s] flaws.” This song is about her love interest and his “cool” or “blue” lifestyle, he’s shaded and cold, and Lana struggles to fix him. In the video, you can see the “shades of cool” that he lives in. They used a lot of blue lighting to reflect his mood, and you can see, during the bridge and guitar solo, Lana dances with him in a bright room, in a bright, red dress - she’s trying to bring color and light to him and their relationship, but then the song cools down again and he’s sitting in that blue light, and driving down the dark road, and I believe that represents his unfixable nature.
Her sound has been described as Hollywood Sad-core. Her most poppy sound is from her album Born to Die (2012). Lots of hip hop beats on that album that you might enjoy. I recommend "Blue Jeans" video or the title track "Born to Die". I think, based on what you've said, you would like those. All of her albums have heavy Americana visuals and references, which is sort of her trademark. Correct in that she is inspired by singers of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
I have a feeling that you would love her song, West Coast, and if you’re looking for more ‘rocky’ vibes you can’t go wrong my favorite Lana album, Ultraviolence.
Actually, this music video is a continuation. It all started in Born To Die (single) when she dies, then West Coast is when the bad boy (older now) got memories of her and nostalgia, that’s why she kept young on both timelines and finally in Shades of Cool she haunts him, we can see that when she’s swimming and he makes the cross sign and he sees her swimming through the glass.
Nice, some other folks were saying that too! I guess I need to get on watching ‘West Coast’ then! That is pretty dope, though I am not sure how I would know that going into it? Is that something that was known about these, or did people sort of figure that out as they were released? I am only learning from you folks! Thanks for watching!
Lana is THE BESSST some of (in my opinion) her best songs are west coast , brooklyn baby, yayo , bel air , gods & monsters, tomorrow never came, beautiful people beautiful problems, pretty when you cry , cruel world .. so basically all of them
Watch her videos in order to see the full visual story. Why she has the guy in the video. 1. Born to die 2. Blue Jean's 3. Summertime Sadness 4. West Coast 5. Shades of Cool 6. Ultraviolence Also, Interscope wanted to scrap the Ultraviolence album entirely and wanted a more mainstream pop record and gave the album to adele's producer and he told them to not touch a thing on the album, and so we got her best album to date, Ultraviolence.
I loved your reaction and how you tried your best to understand the video/song and it’s a tricky one. This is one of my fave Lana songs can’t wait to see you react to more Lana!
This song is like absolutely stuck in my head all last night/this morning. I love the ‘low’ voice in this one too! You don’t hear many ladies really sing like that.
React to her another videos "Blue Jeans" "National Anthem". Definitely - "West Coast" - it's from her album "Ultraviolence"(more rock) which this song "Shades of Cool" same from
Belive me even if you were the most biggest metalhead in the whole world, her voice just catch you in a way I can't describe! Even Sharon den Adel from Within temptation loves her!
Great reaction! She doesn´t get much ,,poppy,, but darker? Definetely :D If i can recommend some songs ..my favorite are Young & Beautiful (from The Great Gatsby movie), Blue Jeans, National Anthem and Ride. Last two are basicly minimovies with stunnig visuals (well that can be said about majority of her videos) And I really love her songwritting abilities. Keep reacting! :)
Haha now that you’re introduced to Lana, you should check out Lust for Life with her and The Weeknd 👀. Their voices go so well together. Lana del Rey always reminded me of one of those old time 50s singers who sings at the clubs?? Does that make sense?? Haha like Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday to Kennedy (which Lana actually recreated in her music video for her song National Anthem). She’s definitely got an interesting singing voice. Very rich and sultry....like a warm caress. Lol Don’t know how that makes sense but it just does
It definitely makes sense! Lol I’m gonna start stealing your words! 😳 Exactly! I think that’s what I was (poorly) trying to say! That’s pretty dope. Definitely will do!
if you wanna listen her energetic songs, she has dozens of unreleased songs "hit and run" is kinda energetic or "paris" is kinda happy. i've been listening her for years. and i am really into her. her unreleased songs are so so good
Yes, someone else said that, and when I watched it again that made so much sense! lol Thanks for watching. She is pretty cool. Going to check out more soon!
I literally never subscribe to anyone but after looking at your videos, wow, it's like you know all my favourite artists! Definitely need some MARINA (Marina and the Diamonds) though! Love how genuine your reaction is, can't wait to watch a load more of your videos!!
Well, welcome! :) I usually try talking to everyone and listening to what people want me to check out too! :) This is why you folks are starting to feel like it's the music you love because I listen to what YOU want me to check out! I have checked out Hollywood by here, it you didn't catch that one! Also...I must be getting good because I am actually editing the reaction to her home performance of 'Handmade Heaven' literally right now! 😎
Natural Reactions ah dope, this is the first time I've watched your videos so I'll definitely check that out!! And nooo way YES KING!! Very excited for that! It's not so well known but her KCRW Acoustic Session is absolutely incredible - please at least watch Numb if any of them, pure heaven! Also great to see you getting back to everyone, as I say I never subscribe to channels but I'm buzzed to be apart of the family!
Will check it out! Siiiiiick! Thanks, I really appreciate the support! Lot's of cool people here too and I try to keep the chumps out! Haha I have been slacking a little with the responses this week, but I'm going to try and make up for it this weekend! It is starting to get a little crazy, but this is how I roll! Thanks again!
Please do some album reactions. If you like this song you’ll love her Ultraviolence album. I’ll definitely be coming back to your channel to see more of your reactions to Lana Del Rey!
First off! You should check out her cover to Chelsea Hotel number 2, both the studio and live with Leonard Cohan’s son. The people before me pretty much covered it but I think if you want to delve into Lana you should start at the beginning, (Born to Die) and work your way up. Just because she changes so much while also staying herself. She grows and improves and will just stun you. Personally my favorite Albums are Ultraviolence and Norman Fucking Rockwell. Almost all her albums are a different sound, as well as produced by a couple different people, but all sound uniquely her! Can’t wait to see you fall in love with her.
Please check out the vid for born to die, it's a masterpiece! Her ultraviolence album is my number 1 favourite album along with back to black by Amy Winehouse, welcome to the Lana del Rey rabbit hole, it's quite a ride, enjoy! ♡
Hey! Will absolutely check out more! (Possibly Amy Winehouse too?) Check out my Lana playlist! I did that one and a couple others! Loving her! Speaking of quite the 'Ride'. I think that one shall be next! :) Thanks for watching!
If you like more of the upbeat you need to check out her born to die and dark paradise albums those are more pop after Ultraviolence she gets a lot more softer which is still amazing even more amazing in person !!

5:34 The guy in the video is called Mark Mahoney, he’s a well known tattoo artist.
The music video is about a two lovers but she died when she was younger and that’s why the old men always seeing her young... he looks sad remembering her, they also show some clips when they were young.

"this is what makes us girls" really tells you about her and her past. And its one of her many beautifully written songs ever!
she's from Manhattan, and she has a very 60s old Hollywood inspiration.
I love it!
Hmmmm. Good to know! Yes it is!
