      I been saying the samething about some of the modded maps people been making that "what I would have given to just have a new DLC map for Halo 3 when I was 15"

      I remember digital ph33r complaining that Halo didn't have enough maps (something I didn't agree with), but this would have been exactly what he was asking for.

    It would be cool if these maps could polished up and released into MCC so the console players could experience this stuff. I know 343's post about these maps vaguely hinted that this could happen. It was fun goofing around on these maps and it would be a shame if console players didn't get to experience pieces of Halo's history.

      @@BoviDaze Oh no I totally get that. Luckily the hiring freeze is over so maybe the MCC team can finally get some backup. For now though, they're gonna have to rely on the modders to get these maps into a state where they can be added. Not ideal, but given the circumstances, we just have to play the hand we're dealt.

      What I think they're hopeful for is that they can garner enough attention to convince money to flow to their team enough to fund these being worked on further, or if not that then maybe the community can make "final" versions of the maps and they can get in contact about putting those versions into MM kind of like how Infinite is doing with community made Forge maps these days.
      We've had about, what, 15 community made forge maps in Infinite already? And they've all been smash hits, one of which is my favorite arena scale map in all of Halo (I'm a BTB man typically). Anyway, with all that success in Infinite's community space in only about 6 months and all the proven talent in the MCC modding scene, I really can't see why they couldn't/wouldn't lean a little on the community to polish these unfinished maps. Which means the modders get to leave a lasting fingerprint on Halo, and on classic Halo on the MCC at that.
      That being said, if 343i keeps this up they better start paying something to these community creators, or giving free shit. In Infinite all you get is a free armor coating and visor coating. Not really worth the work since they themselves price these at only $10 on the most expensive in the shop. It's super exclusive, so you could argue it's more of a $20 value, but I'd argue the coatings are overpriced already and should be no more than $3 US at the absolute most. Anyway, MCC is different and should pay actual money if modders are involved in the purchasable product for sure. Infinite could give in-game currency as payment.

      Honestly, I get the feeling that these maps won't get properly finished up and properly put in, as cool as it would be, given how unfinished they are. That being said, I could see, at least once more people are on the MCC team again, the Halo Online maps that are original to HO that were released with mod tools recently being properly polished and added. Especially the BTB maps as they honestly deserve to be there.
      With these unfinished maps, I would not be surprised if there's already modders putting in work to clean them up

    I always had the feeling the dam on Sierra was built as a MP play space or with MP in mind. Makes a lot of sense this was going to be a MP map

      @@IMFERMO. Nah, I could see it being a good invasion map. It may be small, but it's intricate. The phases of the match would each feel like a tight arena map instead of a typical BTB feeling invasion map, but it would still work.

    Desecration has got to be the most interesting cut map to me cause I've never seen such verticality in a Halo 3 map. I think it would fit well in Reach with its jetpacks, which makes me wish it was added alongside Beachhead AKA Tempest.

    I love the warthog inc idea. Interesting from a lore perspective and could have been a great map combining nice outdoor landscape and industrial setting.

    Hope these get polished up and officially added to MCC. Always thought the dam area from campaign would make a sweet multiplayer map. Really cool we got a lot of maps that no but I wish we got more. Still need “monkey mountain” “pump huas” and “gauntlet”. Hopefully in a future update.

    I spent hours exploring that area in Siera 117, it'd be super cool for Infection in particular, so many hiding spots. Landslide feels a lot like one of Forge World's BTB maps, I forget which.

      Honestly Desecration feels like it was going to be a map tailor made for Infection. With the verticality, all the tunnels, and the Flood theme. Given Infection was shipped with Halo 3 as well, it would make sense for them to have at least 1 map for the mode so that Forgers could work their magic.

    Would have been cool if there was a switch that raised/lowered the floodgates on the Dam. Could have made some paths/weapons accessible depending on their position or create an environmental hazard where players get caught in the water and flung off the dam to their deaths in the river below

    One last comment: thank you. This kind of mysterious content has always been super interesting to me, for Halo 3 specifically. Warthog Inc in particular had felt like an itch I couldn't scratch since the name of it was revealed in metadata extracted from the beta 16 years ago. It feels kind of surreal to see it in action.

    Desecration is so strange, it's so unpractically large. Like its this infinitely expanding space that isn't just auto-generated. It's like 3 small arena maps with similar aesthetics seamlessly taped together

      I think it was going to be map primarily meant for Infection. The Flood theme, all the tunnels, and the verticality, really seem like it was tailor made for Infection. The size would have allowed Forgers to pick and choose parts of the map to block off and give the survivors time to get to their spots, but also give the infected the room to maneuver with their increased speed and jump hieght and give them multiple angels to attack from. At least that's the feel I got from wandering around the map solo.

    Imagine a game mode where flood spawn infinitely but their kills don’t affect the score between human and covenant teams. It would change the dynamic so much.

      Warzone in Halo 5 was good except for the Req system and some of the variants OP effects. If they had only the base or Covenant Banshee as well as everything unlocked for everyone (just had to pay the points in game to use) I think the game mode was brilliant.

      They should count as environmental. In halo, if you damage someone and they then die due to environmental damage (falling off a cliff, fusion coil or getting splattered by a random object, killed by map boundaries and guardians) it counts as your kill.

    It's super cool seeing Dam and finding out Bungie tested out that area at night after having played the Zombies mod for MCC. Honestly would love to see this map repurposed for that mod

    Man it's crazy how Bungie basically made no original MP maps for Reach. They pulled all the launch MP maps from campaign playspaces with light changes and then reusing old H3 stuff for one of their last DLC maps. Makes you wonder how much they were really working on Destiny at that time.

      You can't just pull spaces from campaign and have them work in multiplayer. They went to great effort to create spaces that worked for multiplayer/firefight modes while also making sense in the campaign setting. They mention in the Reach developer commentary that it took a lot of work to do and they probably wouldn't attempt to pull it off again in future. It's unfortunate that years later that effort gets reduced to 'they copied campaign, lazy!' by people who simply don't know any better.

    I always wondered what inspired them to add a crashed Longsword on Tempest. It seems like this version was using a ton of assets from The Ark which would've also included it. I wonder if there were any newer builds of it for Halo 3 where they implemented it?

    In the middle of watching rn, and Desecration, layout wise at least, along with the style of the Covenant architecture, reminds me a hell of a lot of High Charity. Maybe it was supposed to be an MP level that would accompany the original version of Cortana that got cut and replaced by a bunch of stuff from the cut Floodship level? Ngl I'm kinda sad we don't have the original Cortana now if that's the case, because I'm massively digging Desecration, incomplete as it is

    My thoughts on these:
    Dam's layout, flow and feel remind me a whole lot of halo 2 map design, and the bridge in the middle changing from gametype to gametype is very much a Halo 2 sort of thing.
    Desecration also has the feel of a Halo 2 multiplayer map, and those lifts are almost exactly like the ones chief uses going through Highcharity in Halo 2's campaign.
    On Landslide the "zipline" is funny to see because I remember an old Halo 3 dev video talking about them making the mancannons for Valhalla and how early on one of the things they tried where "ziplines", so its funny to actually see the early concept of that after all these years.
    Warthog Inc. was for sure and early design because that just screams Halo 2 maps design and layout. some of the textures even look like they might be Halo 2 textures.
    I would honestly love to see someone backport Dam, Desecration, and Warthog Inc. to Halo 2 just to see how they feel with that gameplay and in that physics engine.

    Very cool maps, makes me wish to see what they would have ended as if they finished them for Halo 3.
    One thing I noticed was that most maps felt incredibly large, so perhaps they were geared more so toward BTB than 4v4.
    'Beachhead', even in the Reach version 'Tempest', suffers from the beach sections being relatively sparce and tucked away towards the sides, when most players would want to fight down that center section between the two bases, so it seems like the playable map, while actually quite large, ends up with smaller practical play spaces being the focus points. So I can understand how that got reworked into Reach, compared to the other maps here which generally feel too larger for any practical 4v4 match.

    Dam is a huge map, would be excellent for BTB without vehicles. I can see the sniper being a bit of a balance issue.

      Actually, it seems like all of these cut maps are pretty large. Which is interesting mostly because a lot of the H3 DLC maps were pretty small in comparison.

    Out of all of these, Anxiety seems like it has a lot of potential. It just needs some teleporters to replace the overly long side passages that lead to the top part. Maybe a couple grav lift pickups for each team to assault the opposite side with. That tunnel that the Warthog squeezed into seems rather pointless, but perhaps it could be altered into a ramp upwards?

    That "Dam" map reminds me of the "Powerhouse" map from "Halo: Reach".

      I'm reminded that Bungie said during the BTS of Reach that they would never again take a campaign playable area and make it a multiplayer map again, because they didn't like how the design philosophy went

      However, (lol) I think I would have enjoyed this a lot as a multiplayer location.

    Dam feels like a solid successor to Zanzibar from Halo 2 in terms of size and function. It would have been ideal for 6v6 or 8v8. Not sure why they couldn't get it working. We did of course get Standoff after launch which fills a similar role.

    These maps seem very "experimental/early concepts" except for Dam. Bungie likes maintaining symmetry with its map design. Dam seemed like they couldn't agree on a direction for its size and when they got to the point where they kept adding to it, they couldn't make everything work and abandoned the map due to what I could assume were disagreements. However, if completed, it could be a full map. I thing things like Dam, the Halo 2 demo mission, and ODST multiplayer should be added in a future update (especially those last two). You could even take that ODST multiplayer mod map and put that in the game with the update too.

    No one beleived me.
    In 2007 bungie shoeed off "Valhalla" before the beta and mentioned it was a symmetrical map BUT one base was set at the top of a mountain with rockets, the other at the bittom eith sbipers, and tunnles to avoid them. They also showed a topographic map of it which had a river "painted" in saying that the riger woukd cut through the map.
    Durkng the beta i was totally flabbergasted by the equal sided layout. I could neve find the post talking about "Valhalla" again.
    Its Landslide. I think theyvused inages from landslide and used the top down map that became vahalla. Its the only explanation for what i remember

    I wonder if some of these maps will work with the pre-release builds? IIRC Delta build or Pimps had a warthog inc map selection but no file was included, could we just point place the .map where the game wants it and potentially it will load...
