alot of these pictures demonstrate why halo 3 is arguably one of if not the most beautiful games of all time. even if it doesn't have the highest polygon count or graphical fidelity, something about the lighting engine and colors make everything look very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.
Its a shame how developers like 343 still don’t understand the value of community features such as file share; its like, imagine how amazing infinite could have been at launch had it at least had file share, all expected game modes, a functioning custom games that holds us till forge…..what a waste of huge potential.
There's a lot they don't understand, gameplay-wise they think it's irrelevant to have player collision for example. Infinite isn't bad but it's not really Halo, at some point you can no longer call a pizza a pie or whatever you get it.

One of the best things about Bungie running the show was the weekly community posts, and they would always add one of these awesome pictures to it on the end. No one can ever do Halo as they did. They were great, magnificent, wonderful. They were Spartan. Even with Destiny as their new thing, they're still just... MIA.
They really cared about the community. That’s something you don’t see from many triple a companies now. I suppose Infinity Ward, for example, does care, but it’s not how bungie did it
Nothing makes me happier to know that while I was playing this game I remember taking moments and looking around and realizing that this game was amazing and knowing that I’ll always remember these days, that makes it feel better
Back when Halo had community. When Bungie would put on "Play against the Dev" events, as well as have the Bungie weekly update that actually made you want to read it. That sense of community is dead and gone, very glad I was part of it. In Halo 2 as well, it was the same.

All bc corporations are so obsessed with political correctness and making everything as kid friendly as possible. I think it really says something when I remember most of these. It hasn't been long at all, and we do have MCC, but the day of the shutdown was heartbreaking and I genuinely get upset whenever I think about it and hear the song Never Forget.
One of my favorite memories is, me being like 7 when Halo 3 came out means I must’ve been 8 or 9 at the time, and I played with these three college students all through the campaign on legendary and then we did the vidmaster challenges together. I must’ve been carried hard but I remember it so fondly. I can’t remember the other two but my best friend was named “TJmax” or something and he had that “our secret” picture in his file share and wouldn’t explain it to me. I miss it so much man. All my halo 3 friends changed their names or never got back on so I’ll probably never find them again. I miss TJ the most, he was the only online friend I had who didn’t care I was 8. If you see this TJ I hope you’re doing well bro. It’s just occurring to me now that he’s probably 40ish today. Wow.
Nice. I still remember my first kill in Halo Multiplayer :) also played campaign co-op with much older guys, one of them was my uncle. He introduced me to Halo. I’ve loved it since.
That one called RECON1 by Green Mage actually has a lot of significance to it. Back in the Bungie era and when they were managing Halo, Bungie devs playing Halo 3 online would oftentimes would be wearing Recon armour as well as a flaming helmet. At the time and before Halo 3 Mythic (all maps came on the 2nd disc with ODST), Recon Armour was exclusively a cosmetic armour set that Bungie had, no normal player could get it except for a lucky few and as a prize during a few events as well. Flaming helmets also meant they were a dev and you couldn't access it either.
Halo 3 really did have the best time with screenshots. It's because it was new at the time, and the creativity of the community was at an all time high. It's never been as good since then.
Probably one of the first things I'm making when Forge comes out if the customs community is still active by then, along with a variant with grappling hooks
It wasn't just the greatest game yet made. It was a community, a social network, a place for people's creativity to be expressed and put to use. I remeber using forge to try and make anything even the slightest bit advanced. Was the most awful frustrating and time consuming use of time. (Things like blending two objects together required the use of manipulating item spawn timers and such) that never seemed to stop me or anyone else because no matter how awful using forge was. The payoff of being able to play those new maps and modes with all your friends was always worth it. So much so that Bungie was floored with what players made and shared. I made a race map on sandbox and someone at Bungie saw it and reached out to me.
I remember playing with Atomic x Killa back in the day, he wasn't a friend mind you he was someone I had a random encounter in custom games infection and he told me about the picture, how he managed to get that elite unarmed in a glitch he did. But he and I were young at the time he was 15 and I was 13 at the time. Boy that was a good memory.
I had almost all of these on my file share at one point. Also the names definitely date the era of gaming lmao. Also also i never realized how some of these took actual thoughts. Using distance and invis and stuff
I had chills throughout the entirety of this video, because it is literal nostalgia. There are so many memories of this game, and there's so much time we can't get back... All we can do is remember, and never forget.

Strange memories on this nervous night on the Xbox dashboard. Fourteen years later? Fifteen? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era - the kind of peak that never comes again. Xbox Live in the late 2000’s was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run… but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and playing Halo 3 in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant… My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nights - or very early mornings- when we would play custom games for hours, days on end, booming on through to dozens of friends of friends’ lobbies…. being absolutely certain that no matter which game I went to I would come to a place where people just having just as much fun as I was. No doubt at all about that… There was madness in any direction. If not in custom games, then up in ranked matchmaking, or even social slayer…. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was fun, that we were winning… And that, I think, was the handle- that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of EA and Activision. Not in any mean or fanboy sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave… So now, less than then fifteen years later, you can go into a slayer match in Valhalla and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.
As much as Reach advanced forge, I will always be more impressed by what people were able to do with Halo 3 forge Also, my brother helped make a lot of the images showcased on “images of the week” or whatever it was called. I’ll always remember the days and nights I spent watching him and the “cool older kids” make awesome-looking stuff

My fileshare got banned because I uploaded a modded picture of a fat guy in a tiny car, I didn't know what modding was then but bungie banned the fuck out my fileshare when I was a month new to Halo3, it stayed banned even on halo reach.

Wow, as I watched this, there were so many that I know I've seen before but don't remember when/where (presumably on XBL when H3 was new).

I'd give anything for a chance to get back together with all my H3 friends again. I miss them.

I was fine for three minutes and four seconds. Then I saw the main menu. You didn't have to do a man dirty like that.
MCC Menu sucks. It works but it doesn’t have any real feeling to it.
