She was severely abused as a small child and abandoned on the street by her birth mother in winter when she was only 3 years old with a broken collarbone. She was then taken to an orphanage where, after more than one year, she was adopted by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist. At the age of four and a half, Diana still could not speak properly. She also stuttered. Experts recommended that she take singing lessons to improve her general speaking and vocal skills. Yes, she is a contralto and she is also polyphonic. This is a new TV show in Russia, you know. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. I am an 87 year old classically trained singer & have been following Diana Ankudinova since the age of 5. Her back story .is interesting! She was adopted from the age of 5 and is the product of an alcoholic Russian mother and an Inner Mongolian father. She is a natural Contralto. When we sing, the sound we hear is not the only thing happening. There .is also an electronic wave that we can not hear but contributes to voice temberl. Diana has a very heavy powerful tember because the unheard electronic waves include all the natural octaves of the voice. I have never heard any singer with this, so her voice is very unique. She is now 19.

Such an amazing talent from a 18 year old that has been performing on stage since she was around 6 years old, and very talented then. She has had vocal training from a very young age. She was given singing lessons to help her talk. So, she basically learned to sing before she could talk properly. Her version of a Russian folk song “Rechenka”at the age of 14, is truly outstanding. Something without a microphone, well, she sends out little clip videos of her singing some popular songs, “way down we go” is one that I can recall off-hand. I think it was recorded on a cell phone? Her version of two Russian pop hits are worthwhile; “Momma I’m Dancing” and “Crow”. You will find so many on her TH-cam Channel. Unsure if anyone is aware of this, but Diana is one of the very few people in the world that can sing multiple notes at the same time which gives her her unique sound in many songs? If you listen to this song repeatedly as often as I have towards the end when she’s doing the deeper notes will also hear some middle and higher notes mixed in amongst it and it is not the backing track or the backing vocals. it is simply her voice doing multiple things at the same timenow if you look at it from that perspective this makes this video far more impressive than people realise. Hi my first time watching your reactions great job and yes this is the same reaction that everyone gets the first time listening to her she is considered to be a dramatic contralto that uses polyphonic overtones she is someone that ifyou watch more of her you will see that she feels every song she sings she is a very focused singer she goes to the best music school in Russia she is in her second year now if you want to hear just her have a listen to her covers of aha's "take on me" or her cover of "havana" they were done from home during lockdown andshe did the arrangements herself but it will give you a sense of her "true voice" no auto tune needed lol if you search on wikipedia you will find out much more about her she started singing early like 7 I think to help with speech impediments all of her early music from 7 to 16 is really great also she has a new duet out with Brandon Stone called "side by Side" which shows off her developed higher range she has really grown alot

The song is painful, wrenching, and it demanded that Diana match his anguish in her performance. I am an 87 year old classically trained singer & have been following Diana Ankudinova since the age of 5.
Her back story .is interesting! She was adopted from the age of 5 and is the product of an alcoholic Russian
mother and an Inner Mongolian father. She is a natural Contralto. When we sing, the sound we hear is not
the only thing happening. There .is also an electronic wave that we can not hear but contributes to voice
temberl. Diana has a very heavy powerful tember because the unheard electronic waves include all the natural
octaves of the voice. I have never heard any singer with this, so her voice is very unique. She is now 19.

I don't know much about music, my ear is illiterate as a father, mother and midwife, but I could feel a strong emotion. She is simply AWESOME. I wonder who knows music, this girl must break these hearts, she is a true phenomenon with that voice.

Diana sang the cover of the cover of the song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMASKgoon). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song.
Rules: 9 winners of the previous shows 'The Mask', 'Superstar' and 'You are Super' took part in this new format and had to sing in 9 categories: folk hit, song at the end of the 20th century, Soviet song, pop hit, song your choice, new music, song from cartoon or film, rock hit, Grammy
The man who jumps up is the famous opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and husband of the world famous opera singer Anna Netrebko. He is the guest of honor and awards 9 points. Each episode has a new guest of honor.
The competitors have to assess each other and have praised Diana to the skies. They said of their performance: 'Diana has no competition on the show - she amazes with her talent - it's impossible to tear yourself away from her - you want to listen endlessly, they're in tears and they're even afraid to blink' .
8 participants (Diana cannot score herself) gave Diana the highest score (9). She won the first episode... and later won the contest.

Such an amazing talent from a 18 year old that has been performing on stage since she was around 6 years old, and very talented then. She has had vocal training from a very young age. She was given singing lessons to help her talk. So, she basically learned to sing before she could talk properly. Her version of a Russian folk song “Rechenka”at the age of 14, is truly outstanding. Something without a microphone, well, she sends out little clip videos of her singing some popular songs, “way down we go” is one that I can recall off-hand. I think it was recorded on a cell phone? Her version of two Russian pop hits are worthwhile; “Momma I’m Dancing” and “Crow”. You will find so many on her TH-cam Channel. Just make sure you pause on any of the videos that originally came from HTB. The ones her team records are safe against blocking. Enjoy this amazingly talented young woman. Thanks for your reaction.

Watch her in a room by herself just singing: There is almost such a setting in her performance of Finnicky Horses, a small stage, small audience, a microphone and a speaker.
Other notable performances of her are Rechenka and Wicked Game, when she was 14 and 15 years old, respectively. Her voice was already there, and in Rechenka, she shows almost shamanic qualities.

Unsure if anyone is aware of this, but Diana is one of the very few people in the world that can sing multiple notes at the same time which gives her her unique sound in many songs? If you listen to this song repeatedly as often as I have towards the end when she’s doing the deeper notes will also hear some middle and higher notes mixed in amongst it and it is not the backing track or the backing vocals. it is simply her voice doing multiple things at the same timenow if you look at it from that perspective this makes this video far more impressive than people realise. For those who aren’t aware what this means is that she has a polyphonic voice - polyphony, in music, the simultaneous combination of two or more tones or melodic lines (the term derives from the Greek word for “many sounds”).

Hi my first time watching your reactions great job and yes this is the same reaction that everyone gets the first time listening to her she is considered to be a dramatic contralto that uses polyphonic overtones she is someone that ifyou watch more of her you will see that she feels every song she sings she is a very focused singer she goes to the best music school in Russia she is in her second year now if you want to hear just her have a listen to her covers of aha's "take on me" or her cover of "havana" they were done from home during lockdown andshe did the arrangements herself but it will give you a sense of her "true voice" no auto tune needed lol if you search on wikipedia you will find out much more about her she started singing early like 7 I think to help with speech impediments all of her early music from 7 to 16 is really great also she has a new duet out with Brandon Stone called "side by Side" which shows off her developed higher range she has really grown alot

I enjoyed your reaction to Diana, brief as it was. As others have said here, she has incomparable skills. Among them is her ability to inhabit the song, to become the lyrics. For me this is nowhere more obvious than in her rendition of a song written in the 1970s by a dissolute Russian poet, writer, singer, actor who drank himself to death -- Vladimir Visotsky. The song is painful, wrenching, and it demanded that Diana match his anguish in her performance. Only 17 at the time, she did it masterfully, and you can literally watch her switch into character as she prepares to sing. The video switches from colour to black and white simultaneously. Она каждый раз тщательно строит очередное здание, от фундамента до высокого шпиля; и вы никогда не увидите красивых колонн, висящих в воздухе без опоры (как у некоторых других певцов). Поэтому каждый раз это производит впечатление полной законченности, почти совершенства. Она могла бы и в этой песне ещё много чего показать - но всё было подчинено решению конкретных художественных задач, без дополнительной демонстрации вокальных возможностей. Разумеется, цель произвести сильное впечатление стояла - и была успешно решена - но и эта демонстрация силы была полностью подчинена решению именно эстетических задач. При знакомстве с некоторыми другими песнями Дианы вы сможете услышать, как она порой сильно себя ограничивает, чтобы остаться в пределах, задаваемых содержанием песни, посланием, которое в ней содержится...
