nate somehow managed to twist the phrase “contrary to popular belief” to “popular to disbelief” and i’m not sure he can ever recover from that

My dad is a pastor who has performed a lot of weddings over the years, and he frequently uses this line during the ceremony to much laughter: "Marriage is two people working together to solve problems that they never would have had if they had just stayed single." Love the show!

I love how Brian receives all of Nate's mocking with a goofy smile and then gladly offers up even more information for Nate to use against him. It's like his low-key way of proving he's really the one in control.

"What's your source on that?", has become my favourite response to conversations I don't wish to engage in. It's wonderful, just keep repeating "What's your source on that?" - it drives people up the wall.

You guys should have Laura actually sit in for an episode. Then she can fact check anything Nate says about their life. Plus, it would just be a lot of fun I think!

I was in a relationship for 7 years. I thought I was going to marry this woman and I didn't work out. It's strange now at 35 I didn't see marriage and having kids a possibility. After watching this episode it seems possible again for some reason. This show helps pass the time at work! Please keep making these shows you guys are awesome!

I’m 23 and my fiancé is 25 and we’re getting married in September of 2020, we’ve been together for 7 years and have never shared a bank account and probably never will, I am in charge of making sure the bills get paid all she has to pay is half of our mortgage and her car and insurance I pay the rest but I have no clue how much money she has in my account and viseversa we’ve never fought about what one another spends their own money on as long and we have enough for the bills. My dad is 48 and think that it’s an insane way to manage money but it’s never been a fight so why change it. Enjoy the podcast you’re hilarious and Aaron and Brendan are great co host and equally as funny.

The best part of this podcast has got to be that all of the things Nate is supposed to know, he doesn't, and he just immediately yells to laura off-camera and that's probably the greatest metaphor for marriage.

Hey guys!! I don't know if it's too late to comment on this but wanted to put in my two cents. I got married at 21 in 2007. My husband was 23. I wanted to comment because I don't think there is a "right" age to get married. It depends more on the mind set, values and goals of two people rather than age, where you're from etc. I finished school 2yrs AFTER we were married and finished my master's degree 3yrs after that. We had our first baby after 5yrs of marriage. People can get married at 21 and regret it forever. People can also get married at 35 or 40 and regret it forever. You can also pass up a good match because others say you are too young then "married the one your with" at an older age because you think time is slipping by. ANYWAY just saying there is no "right or wrong" age, just depends on the two people involved.
Also we love your comedy and this podcast! We saw you live at the small Cap City comedy club in Austin then at the Paramount Theater in Austin about a year later. Can't wait to see you again!

Great episode about marriage. My wife and I got married when I was 20 and she was 19. 11 years and 3 kids later we are still loving the most pit. Growing closer to God is the best way to grow closer together. Although, I agree with Nate, the Amazing Race with my wife would be hard. We are bad at putting furniture together. I am glad we survived my daughter's new bunkbed. My pastor brother jokes that he should have engaged couples put together a dressee from IKEA in front of him as part of premarriage counseling.

Nate making the point that 2020 is better than any other time to live would trigger a lot of people! Rant complete! Good work. I also think it's great how young people don't have to go to war, don't have to worry about age expectancy being like 40 , or I don't know BEING CONQUERED!? They're too busy on social media posting about how terrible the world on their IPHONEs that their parents bought them while living in the apartment they don't pay for!

It was a good laugh this morning.

  • @christophc11
    @christophc11 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I think what Aaron was going to say, before Nate was set off, was that some people argue that having children is selfish because of the idea that a person thinks that the world needs another version of them (someone with their DNA/mini-me) when there are children in orphanages around the world that need loving parents. It's not that the world doesn't need children but that the world need THEIR children.

100%. And it is. Same with buying a dog from a breeder when tons are currently in cages and are going to be put down because people would rather go get some purebred (inbred) dog.
And we are overpopulated in the sense that it isn't currently feasible to go live in those unpopulated areas. It can be done, but it's really difficult. Until we figure out how to spread out in an economically positive way, I think we can count ourselves as overpopulated and having kids adds to the issue.
You can "just not want them" and still see that these things are true as well.

Love Nate's multiple Seinfeld deep-cut references, probably the influence that makes me love Nate's stand-up. He dives deep into the details of things that we don't think about but we notice. Just like the genius of Seinfeld. The original iced milk joke was one of those that would have made me pull over from laughing, thankfully i was on my couch knuckle-deep in a bag of flamin hot cheetos. Now that I think of it, Nate has a multiple milk-related jokes. "Nate Bargatze, for fans of Seinfeld, milk, and conflicts in marriage."

I worked on the Census in 2010 and a little bit in 2020. I was married at 27 and had my first child at 31.
I disagree with Nate about people who say they aren't having kids because of how the world is. Seeing the wildfires, the floods, the storms, the icecaps melting... I want to know that my kids will be okay in the world after I'm gone. My firstborn doesn't want kids and I'm okay with that. My second kid wants kids but is probably going to adopt rather than have bio kids.

Growing up in Florida, my dad used to take me to all spring training games every year. I was also a huge braves fan. Ryan Klesko’s rookie year, I was four or five and my dad and I stood in line to get an autograph before the game. By the time we got up to the front of the line, he had amassed a circle of beautiful girls fawning over him. Completely in his own ego. When it was my turn to meet him the only thing I asked him was if he knew Sid Bream. As a child I utterly embarrassed the hot shot rookie. I don’t know. I wonder if he thinks about that ever.

There are only two things anyone should be doing on a toilet. Every time someone walks into the bathroom there is a 75% chance they will have to sit.

That is why the toilet seat needs to be kept in the down position.

I wear two wedding rings, because I lost one of them, went back to the jeweller, had an identical one made, and later found the one that was lost. I later lost the new one as well, and found it again.
The stories of losing and finding both of those rings were pretty interesting. After a winter storm, we were going shopping. There were a couple of ice blocks that the snow plow had left in front of the driveway. I wasn’t wearing gloves and just threw them out of the way. I later realized that the ring flew off my cold, wet hand, but didn’t feel it at the time. We were in a store and I was going through a large barrel of fake plastic fruit, looking for a fake plastic grapefruit, when I realized the ring was gone. I thought I had lost it in the barrel of fake plastic fruit, and panicked, and proceeded to empty out the barrel of fake plastic fruit on the floor. It wasn’t there. The cashier asked me if I wanted to leave my phone number with them, but that if anyone were to find it, they’d probably just sell it to a pawn shop.
Fast forward to spring, and the snow had melted. I searched all over the lawn, and the driveway, as I thought maybe I had lost it while throwing that ice block. But it wasn’t there. A week later, my grandmother had just passed away, I was practicing the violin, as my grandmother’s dying wish was that I play « Danny Boy » at her funeral. My uncle rang my doorbell but I couldn’t hear him. When I was leaving the house, I saw a plastic bag on my doorknob, and a note saying « I was wondering if you wanted to play tennis, but I guess you’re not home. I found this ring in your driveway, is it yours? ». And there it was.
In the meantime, I had had another ring made, it was tighter and I was less worried about losing it. I had brought my daughter to the doctor’s for a checkup, and on the way back, started to smell diarrhea. I was worried the car seat would be a crime scene when I got back home, so I stopped into a gas station to change her. I frantically changed her in the men’s bathroom, which, of course, had no change table. I threw away the diaper in the garbage. When I got home, I realized my ring was missing. I called the gas station and asked them to look in the bathroom, but stopped short of asking them to go through the garbage can (where I figured it might have been). At least I still had my original ring though, so I wasn’t as panicked.
A few months later, I was going to town hall at about 10:30, to hand in some forms for a house I was building. These forms were really complicated. « What kind of septic tank are you using? » « I don’t know...Nike? ». « Draw the septic tank ».. »Wait, there’s an art portion to this test? ». I had only completed about 25% of the 8 page document, and wasn’t sure they’d accept it. I get to the office, and the receptionist tells me that Garry, the planning department supervisor, is on lunch break (It was 10:30?), and that he’ll be back in a couple of hours. I return to my car, dejected...I open the car door, and see, on my daughter’s car seat, there’s my ring, resting there like in an oversized ring box. I had put my daughter in and out of that car seat twice a day for the last 3 months, and never noticed it, but here was the ring. I put the ring on my right hand, and found the spirit to fill out those building forms as best as I could. I got about 51% of the questions done, which I could then justify as having filled out « most of the questions », by the time Garry returned from his lunch break, two hours later.
When I got home, I asked my wife if my two rings looked cool. She said, « You look like a guy who lost his ring, had another one made, then found the one he lost, and now wears the two wedding rings ».

I may be a couple of episodes behind, but speaking of COVID and smoking, the following is a true story (according to reliable sources): Because of the COVID lockdown of a nursing home, a daughter of a resident asked her Mom what supplies/groceries she might leave at the desk of the nursing home. The Mom, a 94- year-old Southern genteel lady, asked for a pack of cigarettes along with the usual supplies. The surprised daughter asked her Mom if she had taken up smoking. Her Mom replied that only smokers in the nursing home are allowed to go outside to the courtyard. Therefore, a few residents, who never smoked before have devised this scheme and are able to go outside and light up cigarettes and pretend to smoke. What a strange time! 😊
Love the podcast! Thanks for the laughs every week!

Love the show! Just wanted to let y’all know there’s a broken website link for this podcast that’s on the iPhone Apple podcast app. I did my 5 star rating for this podcast & just out of curiosity clicked on the link under “Show Website” (in the Apple podcast app). Also, it was weird that when I searched “Nate Bargatze” on my iPhone’s iTunes app, this podcast didn’t come up among the search results (the results did have podcast episodes that Nate’s been a guest on, but not the Nateland podcast) [in Apple’s iTunes phone app]. I only mention these things because I want everyone in the world to discover the joy & laughter this podcast bring to everyday life. It’s truly my favorite podcast of all time! Keep up the great work!

i love these podcasts. i laugh, hearing the guys laughing at each other. i love it. But i think my favorite part, besides just being able to be a 'fly on the wall' for these conversations - i love all the Seinfeld and The Office references. I am almost always thinking the same thing when you guys say them. I love those shows too. There are so many times that i reference those shows, as well as comic standup stuff, in my life - and i just get crickets. so i appreciate that so much when others do it. thanks :)

1:48:00 the comedian is Louis CK. That joke is great, it ends with the guy in paradise telling something like: "You meant to be the love of my life not the love of my death"

We planned our wedding around a sporting event. My wife wanted a Fall wedding. I told her any month of the year except October. Huge baseball/dodgers fan and in 2016 a World Series possibility was a serious possibility. Born in ‘91 I’ve never seen them win one. So November 3rd it was. They didn’t make it but at least i got to watch a decent playoff run and the Cubs end they’re curse. Cheers to Nate, Aaron and Brandon!

Let’s end this BLOCKBUSTER debate. There is a blockbuster in Italy along with Bend, OR.
ULTIMATE SOURCE: Chris Ergen, my buddy who’s family business is Dish Network / EchoStar / Sling TV / Boost mobile. Chris bought the Blockbuster Corporation out of bankruptcy. I called Chris and asked about the last store and he told me it is in Italy.
The takeaway: it turns out the Italy blockbuster is a knockoff called blockbuster village so the actual owner doesn’t know the last location. It sounds like Bend, Oregon is the last one.
Also love the Seinfeld drops. You guys keep killing it!

"Just dating" as a scapegoat to getting out of division of property would work if the other person didn't wish to make an argument for common law marriage. Which in some states simply requires something as simply as sharing the same residence as a couple for a certain amount of time.

Hey guys! Love the podcast! Nate, I'm a huge fan but I don't know why you pick on Brian so much. He contributes a lot to the podcast. He also has a very soothing voice and I think he should record audio books. Maybe since Nate has such a hard time reading the comments he should let Brian take over.

When discussing the individual vs joint accounts once married, My mom and step dad are both 61 and have a joint accounts but in the past when she goes on a trip for work she would tend to come home to a new purchase - once a brand new truck, another time a zero turn mower, another time a golf cart. He’d try to sell it to her as it was something they both needed or would benefit from. Until his current job he also changed jobs every 2 years or so for his entire life - the guy that anything you talk about has a story when he “worked at this one place”. She has worked the same government job for about 30 years and has a pension and a deferred Comp (retirement plan). For the past 2 years he keeps asking when he can retire. Her reply is that SHE will be retiring in a couple years but HE has zero retirement.

8 episode listener, 1st time complainer.
I hear you and understand where you are coming from about hating it when people tell you “I didn’t want kids because…. I’m saving the planet, too many kids already in this world, wanted to sleep in on the weekends” - whatever it may be...
Huge fan, I love hearing about how your parents have supported you throughout your life - emotionally and financially - that is how it should be - you’ve been blessed with great parents and a financially astute - key turning - broom riding wife.
One thing you may also want to consider when hearing these words from someone is….. perhaps this person grew up being (emotionally and/or physically... sexually) abused from the get-go… maybe this person is so sad and so heartbroken inside thinking about their own childhood and is in such great pain they figured it would be best not to bring a kid into the world as they know it - maybe their world is so painful they don’t want any other human being, especially a child, to ever feel this same way……. Or maybe they just want to sleep in on the weekends….
People should stop asking adults that don’t have kids “WHY? WHY? WHY?” If you don’t ask - there will be no answer to hate, Nate… and friends - could you introduce them both one more time, please?
