    I have NEVER been a fan of swimming as an " off season" activity for track athletes; swimming helps you swim, running/ sprinting helps you run!! 😅

      @@ATHLETE.400. Generally get strong to supplement speed. Stay consistent. Never let weight room interfere with speed.

    hey coach , my 10m fly is stuck at around 1.08-1.1 ,how should I improve it ? Considering I have the worst genetics (maybe) for sprinting
    Should I do more and more fly's and sleep more? Thats it?

      Yes and no. I did not consult with or influence their program but they 100% prioritized speed and then made decisions and programmed around that priority which is the KEY CONCEPT of FTC. So, they fed the cats without officially doing so. 🙂

    Love the content!! As far as strength goes for the football players would sticking to upper body twice a week and lower once a week (Thursday after xfactor) be beneficial for their sport?

    • @coachtonyholler
      @coachtonyholler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends in-season or off-season. Common thread… prioritize speed and consolidate stressors. Much less weight room in-season. Lots more isometrics and concentric lifts.

    Tony, supporter and speed enthusiast here.
    Let's say, you want to take a kid from 22 to 23 speed but had to suggest an exercise for higher respiratory fitness on sprinting off days.
    Low impact like swimming?

    • @coachtonyholler
      @coachtonyholler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends what sport is requiring that “higher respiratory fitness”. XC kids need to run, swimmers need to swim, cyclists need to bike. If training for football and basketball, you play the game.

    Boyd Eppley was not a body builder. He was a pole vaulter on the Nebraska track team, who rehabbed himself from a serious back injury through weight training. His progress impressed the football coaches and they brought him on to help their program.

      Boyd Epley was a body builder. Check out figure #2 (pic-2) in this article. www.semanticscholar.org/paper/%E2%80%9CThe-Strength-of-Nebraska%E2%80%9D%3A-Boyd-Epley%2C-Husker-and-Shurley-Todd/3a54aed05c8b82c0f512274157c33fc70364dd63

      @@coachtonyhollerBoyd Epley competed in bodybuilding, but that was after his pole vaulting career was over. He also competed in powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting. His record of training top athletes is beyond reproach! He is the man who started strength training for athletes. At a time when weight training was dismissed by coaches, he proved them all wrong. The Nebraska football players got bigger, stronger AND FASTER! Your ignorance is astounding!
      And do you know why the top speed athletes don't coach? Why it's always the grinder times who are coaches? It because the grinders didn't have the genetic gifts of the top speed players, they had to learn and understand every aspect of their sport in order to earn a place on the team. They had to work harder than the gifted athlete did. Gifted athletes can't explain how they do what they do, it just comes naturally to them...hence they have no deep knowledge and they make rotten coaches because they have no knowledge to transfer.
      Rather than tear down people who have accomplished things you can only dream of accomplishing, why not just speak about what you have to offer? You come across as petty and jealous.

    It's not a matter of strength vs speed . The human body has musculoskeletal structure that will age and with that comes a need to focus more on the development of it in order for it to perform at its best at whatever the physical demands are . This is why your elite athletes have coaches that specialize in those areas . The trainers know how to do program design that is applicable to that particular sport . No good instructor is going apply a strength training program design for a football athlete.Just common sense . Even with the confines of the sports . A shot putter is obviously going to need more power explosive lifting than a sprinter.

    Coach, I'm interested in hearing your opinion on Tactical training. The 2-mile run for the Army is outdated; however, should Tactical athletes that are required to run 2 miles for their standardized tests be prioritizing speed just as much as a high school athlete?
