    Learning how to run relaxed and pace your races correctly is what you need. Not endurance. Complete nonsense that needn't be perpetuated any further.

      @@coachtonyholler you mentioned at 10:20mins of this video that you do not do foam rollers. What is your opinion of foam rolling should it be done before or after the workout? should you static stretch after a sprint workout?

    Interesting about your Jumps coach. I feel like 2 timed sprints would light up the CNS for better jumping, rather than no timed sprints at all. Do you think timed sprints are a potentiator or a hindrance to jumping?

    I love what you teach. It has been a big help to me, but I have a problem. I am 56 years old and run in the USATF masters classes. I can run 12.0's in the 100 meter. I am probably ranked in the top 5 in the US this year and top 15 in the world. My problem is flexibility. If I bend straight over to touch my toes I can barely make it to ankles. My strides are the shortest on the track. So I am curious about what your warm ups and stretching routines look like or what you recommend.

      Marcellus Moore, 10.31 and 20.88, could barely touch his toes. Having said that, range of motion is important. We do a couple things for hip mobility and Reflexive Performance Reset is a game changer.

    Coach, how can you tell if a lactate workout it too hard or too easy for an athlete to improve? You mention athletes laying on the ground or puking after lactate workouts is this something to aim for?

    My coaches never trained to run a 400...my pb was 55.9....but my 100m-200m pb was 11.1.....22.9....my brother said he ran the 1st 100 all out then cruise then at the last stretch all out....what's your way of running the open 400 the right way??

      You're not supposed to run all out the first 100-200 meters. Aim for a split around 24.5-25.0 the first 200 meters if your 200m pb is 22.9. You're supposed to pace smartly not kill yourself

      @@emilstorgaard9642 … IMO, first 200 should be 200, PR plus ONE SECOND, second 200, PR plus 2.5 to 3.0 seconds. If you run a TRUE 22.90 in the open 200m, wind legal, you should run 49.3 to 49.8 with a full season of proper lactate training. Plus 1.5 or plus 2.0 is way too slow for first half.

      I'm someone (fairly strong gym training backround) who started speed training or sprinting at older age (43yrs) this 2024 indoor season meant me a lot as I opened it right after 45th Birthday and I feel I'm lacking pure speed?? as PBd all of them at short track as
      60m (8,28)
      200m (26,95)
      400m (58,81)
      800m (2:16,71) as season closure

    Would you train speed using some of these principles if running middle or long distance?

      Yes but endurance athletes need to develop their aerobic capacity to a far greater extent than sprinters.

    I agree with a lot of what you say but wouldn't running 150's technically be speed endurance?

      “Speed Endurance” is not in my vocabulary. 8x150 at the HS level is tempo work. Detrains speed.

      @@coachtonyholler think of speed endurance as doing a max speed workout but going a bit further. for example if a coach gives there athletes 4x50 as a speed workout with 5 minutes rest he can give 4x70 to become speed endurance. you are still hitting the same max speed mph but going a bit farther to learn how to maintain speed and try not to decelerate less.

      @@anwarf1859 I know what speed endurance is, FTC programs don’t do it. We keep intensity very high and call the workouts “lactate” or “acidosis tolerance”.

      @@coachtonyholler you are missing the point of what I'm saying, you yourself said you do 150's (using 150s for example). Doing those over 90% w/ full recovery is speed endurance and also lactate.

      @@elijahebbert6884 you may have missed my point too. 8 150s would be slower than goal 400 pace. That’s why we don’t do it. Also, I refuse to use percentages. 90% of what? Max speed? The 400 is run at far less than 75% max speed. 90% of 400 goal pace? That’s too slow IMO.

    Speed endurance training should be train on 95%-100% with work to rest ratio 2 min to 5 min between reps and 8 min to 10 min between sets with distance between 60m to 150m.

      The USATF Certification textbook writers were not divinely inspired. They were fallible coaches who worked with elite athletes.
      I refuse to say the word “end*r*nce” 🙂

      @@antrikshsharma3701 Not wrong but not that simple in one way and not that complicated in another way. I don’t think in terms of sets, reps, recoveries, distances, and especially, percentages. We do the 23-sec drill and 4x4 predictors.
