I do not want to brag or make myself stand out, but I started Carnivore in May 2023 at around 140lbs. A year afterwards, I am still on the diet, working out like crazy, intense lifting and sprints. I am over 160lbs now so about +20lbs of mass gain. The scale shows about 2% body fat increase since that time, which is fine with me, as I am still lean. But if you do the math, it's about 3lbs of fat mass and roughly 17lbs of lean tissue. Yes, if you put in the hard work, you can grow like a weed! 💪 Afterall, "you are what you eat" and I eat a lot of meat!

Same age as you, weightlifting since 1986, I weigh 200 LBS, carnivore since 2 years, same trend in muscle gain (never any drugs). Wife carnivore for 18 months. We were inspired by your vids to take up rowing. Just took a course in 4 man scull and had the regatta this weekend. No boat rowed faster than ours in any of the races (4's and 8's). We were the oldest competitors there. Of 30 people, we were clearly the strongest pair. Everyone got a burger and fries at the end. I took one bite and threw it out...tasted like garbage. Same with the wife. Case closed for us. Went home and had a 28 ounce ribeye dinner, 9 ounce tenderloin for the Mrs.

The Chinese noted with surprise and disgust the ability of the Mongol warriors to survive on little food and water for long periods; according to one, the entire army could camp without a single puff of smoke since they needed no fires to cook. Compared to the Jurched soldiers, the Mongols were much healthier and stronger. The Mongols consumed a steady diet of meat, milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, and they fought men who lived on gruel made from various grains. The grain diet of the peasant warriors stunted their bones, rotted their teeth, and left them weak and prone to disease. In contrast, the poorest Mongol soldier ate mostly protein, thereby giving him strong teeth and bones.

An excellent way to boost muscle growth is by using a sauna 3-4 times a week. It has been shown that growth hormone naturally increases dramatically afterwards and can be multiple times higher about 24 hours after using a sauna. So if you do a sauna Monday morning then do weight training Tuesday morning you'll be starting your recovery when your growth hormone is highly elevated. A study was done on this and others have replicated the results.

Whey protein is the fastest abosorbing protein there is, As a result it doesn't stick, I remember from stories years ago of people ingesting a 100+ grams of Whey Protein and ending up in the toilet shi@#ting there brains out as a result. If you are going to use a protein supplement I recommend Caesin it's very slow digesting, the slowest, Next would be Milk Protein Isolate and Concentrate, and after that is Egg Protein/Egg Albulmen. But you can also get Beef Protein powder, but not many companies make it.But not all protein powders are useless. Also keep in mind not all protein powders are created equal either, Some Whey Protein powders have carbs and other nasty stuff in them, Read The Labels!!! Another thing to be mindful of is Beef protein of all the animal Protein sources out there has the highest amount of Naturally Accouring Creatine, So there's that as well.

I'm in my fifties and lifted my whole life. But I was at a long time plateau while I was still addicted to carbs. Dropping the carbs was the plateau break out for me! Food is more powerful than medicine (and drugs)! My body fat is down and my muscle density is up. Two years in and I keep getting and feeling better. This is substantiated by improving blood work markers too.

The doctors I have spoken to thus far have not answered any specific questions. or even mentioned the effects of protein/exercise in creatinine production. Referrals to the specialist money machine for myriad tests and "keeping an eye on it" are not the answers I'm looking for. New lab results may show successful treatment for a chronic UTI. I would guess that it does, and therefore I'm not sure that protein is important as it relates to insulin production for muscle building. But I agree that protein is very important for muscle as building material. Just not sure how much it matter in terms of hormones.

I'm 39 next month have been regularly weight lifting for 7 months, carnivore for 10 months. Have had no problem putting on muscle in that time (probably 'noob' gains after a long gym hiatus)
I eat 2 meals a day each hitting easily 65-70 grams protein per meal (3 egg omelette stuffed with around 150-200 grams ground beef and topped with melted cheddar).
I train in the morning in a fasted state and have a milk kefir-based clean protein shake (whey concentrate zero additives) + creatine immediately after training.
Put on 6kgs lean muscle in 7 months.

Since the beginning of 2024, I have steadied my weight at about 250 lbs. I still have a lot of fat I need to lose on my midsection and love handles most noticeably. What can I do to start losing this body fat?

    • @cynicist8114
      @cynicist8114 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Try fasting at the start of each month for 72-hours. You will gradually lose the extra fat. I'm doing a four day (96-hour) fast this week, and I treat it as a deload week where I don't workout or anything.
Ever since I started doing this and working out, I've lost lots of fat on my thighs, back, and midsection. I didn't even stop drinking dairy (limited to 1-2 glasses a day).
It is tough at first, but gets easier each time. You lose the hunger by day two, and you could do it up to five days without fear of losing any muscle mass at all even if you are on the skinnier side.

The word "vegan" was first used in 1944 by British woodworker and animal rights advocate Donald Watson. Watson created the term as a derivative of "vegetarian" to describe people who don't eat meat, eggs, cheese, or anything that comes from an animal. He also intended it as a statement against vegetarians who ate dairy products, taking the first and last letters of the word "vegetarian" to create his own version

I am hoping that maybe you can send me in the right direction or even do a video on this topic. I am looking for food combinations that provide the most efficient use of amino acids. I was watching a video where it was explained that if your body does not have all nine parts of the essentials then instead of using the proteins to build it turns the leftover pieces into sugars. So what I am looking for is a meal that combines foods with different amounts of the essentials to get the most efficiency out of the proteins. BTW the reason I am doing this is that I am desperately trying to reverse my type 2 diabetes. In the last 7 weeks I have brought my blood blood sugars from an average of 246 down to 126 but have hit a plateau and am finding that even on an ultra low carb diet with high fat and protein, I am still getting 40-50 spikes and I can not seem to get below the 126 average. Now a place to find the information on what foods contain what types and amounts of the 9 essential amino acids would be a great resource if you know where to look. Thanks for your time and great channel.

I should have made clear that I'm focused on athletic performance, not bodybuilding or looks.

@@peterm.eggers520 Body builders are strong. Also, his personal life and choices do not detract from his brilliance when it comes to physiology. He understood the importance of rest and taxing the muscles just enough to stimulate growth, then giving adequate time for recovery, which is when growth and repair happen. He emphasizes short, effective, workouts.
Often times, highly intelligent people like him suffer from the realities of this realm, because as you get older you start to realize that we live in a society based on social manipulation and not merit. When this reality hits you, it's hard to cope, hence his downfall. He was probably the most intelligent competitive body builder to ever exist.
I was not suggesting you jump on gear and amphetamines to improve your physique. I was suggesting you take a look at his workout routine as an effective means to get what you are looking for. I used to workout 4-5 times a week and realized that I was not gaining much strength or achieving the physique changes I was after. Now I hit the gym 1-2 times per week and my body is transforming.
Also, HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training and refers to a cardio routine. HIT is just High Intensity Training and refers to Mentzer's method of pushing to failure to stimulate growth. Only reason I suggested it is because you were looking for a simple and effective routine that gets results. A Mentzer style routing would have you in the gym for an hour max 2 days a week. Seems ideal for what you are looking for.

@freigeist777 @freigeist777 walks...nothing to do with mps, it's just something I like to have my clients do (active rest); as for HIT, studies have shown that as we get older (let's say over 40) HIT has proven to be a great stimulater of MPS. For protein consumption, over 16 g (more or less) of complete protein has been shown to stimulate mps (through the mTOR pathway).
For the downside of the large meals 5x a day... if they are not spaced out enough it might act as a bolus meal and not stimulate mps as efficiently, but like you said there is probably no downside.

    1. Those 45-8=37 years you were NOT carnivore: how many carbs were you having, and how much muscle did you put on then? Don't think we need carbs for muscle MAINtaining but for max speed gaining, maybe different. I see the same history in Dr. Chaffee. S tier body but muscles were built BEFORE carnivore started.
    2. Keep seeing things about glycogen, brain, and the liver. Body redirecting PROTEIN into gluconeogenesis INSTEAD of the fat you eat/on your body. Some math about 120g of protein compensating for 60g of carbs for example. "Protein sparing effect of carbohydrates"

Kind of hard not to hit your macros on this diet but having a general idea of calories helps, if you are not putting on size make number go up, if you are putting size in the wrong area make number go down. Most people trying to put on size skip cardio which is hurting you. See lot's of people in the gym training their joints not their muscle, BUILDING is not moving weight from point A to point B, when you figure that out you'll start actually working the muscle and breaking it down to build it up.

However, I'm blown away by the amount of carbs that body builders consume in their diets.. That one gal.. victoria scott.. I think she 40..and a WEFB.. She posts what some of her daily meals are.. and her trainer has her consuming several hundred grams of carbs.. in some of her phase eating.. Now with that said. someonr who has well below a 20% body fat.. is unlikely to have any Insulin resistance issues.. they have a ton of mucles.. and they will burn off/dispense of the carbs much more readily than anybody who's body fat is up somewhere around 30% or better. I still would not go back to eating carbs.. above 15 to 20 grams per day. I try to run around 10 grams per day. and can hit the mark pretty consistantly.

I've never had a problem with my gut using protein powders. I have had some issues when consuming too much fat in the beef sources I use. Steaks, hamburger. I'm not sure why this happens but I have to be careful how much fat I ingest or I have stomach issues.

That can have more to do with rendered fat than the solid fat itself. The liquid/greasy rendered fat could be overwhelming your gall bladder (or liver, if you no longer have a gall bladder). This forced you to produce extra bile salts to breakdown the liquid fat which can causes issues; also, if you drink water right before, during, or right after eating red meat, it can have the same effect, PLUS turn it into mush too quickly leading to diarrhea. It is actually best to avoid water 30 minutes prior to or after eating.

try eating your cooked meat cold, it is easier to eat and slows the absorption of fat. i love cold ground beef, i throw it in the fridge for an hour before i eat it.

Probably not producing enough bile. It takes time to build that up and if you're older you are fighting age and everything takes longer.
An ox bile supplement will help in the interim.

Weirdly, for about a year of carnivore I didn't see much change in the gym. I was getting stronger over time but composition measurements showed I stalled. Also I didn't appear to change much. But lately both I and my wife perceive myself as more muscular while composition measurements show more fat. Anyone has any idea what could be going on?

Gratitude you for the good work, Dr. Shawn Baker
I don't think whey protein is correct on a carnivore diet,
I prefer to eat ground beef muscle, 3 times a week, I have gained muscle satisfactorily, beef muscle generates human muscle for sure
Another secret is to eat a variety of meats, whether prime or second-grade meat, second-class meat, eat it ground,
Really eating 3 meals or at least 2 is important,
    And don't forget to train!!!
