I never post comments under videos, but this time I had to. I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU! This step by step video is really easy to follow for people who like me have no idea how GA works. You helped me solve an issue I had my head wrapped around for weeks!! The only downside of the new consent setting in Google is that whichever 3rd party platform you choose you have to pay something. I compared almost all of the platforms out there and they all seems to have the same business model. Termly was the most affordable. However being in the UK and collecting data from EU users, I had to sign up for the Termly Pro plan to have the GDPR consent banner. In any case, this video help me do something I would have never been able to do on my own. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you for helping, I've been looking for this for about 10 days and now I can actually resolve this, as I'm Brazilian but I work in Europe, thank you very much!
Thank you very much for this detailed and in-depth video on how to setup Termly consent banner and also for the free termly template. I learnt how to add Termly to my website and connect it with Google analytics. Although I did not need to connect it to other google services since my Google ads is also linked to my Google analytics! My website is up and running now with consent management for the Europe & California region. I have not added it for other regions as it is not yet required by Google analytics to enable measurement in other regions. Thank you once again and keep up the great work! Much appreciated.
Thank you! Can you tell me please how to set up consent mode for Facebook and Linkedin tags.Do I have to customise the consent mode setting for all tags on my page? I have about 20 of them:) including mail-copy, phone copy, watch video etc. Thank you in advance!
I don’t get any of your data. When you import the container you will see all of the configurations for tags, triggers, variables, etc. and you can always create a testing container to check things out.
Thank you Benjamin for this amazing video. It provides a new feature to check for. One query on this, please. (Sorry if this sounds silly or if I missed it) you mentioned that the Termly tag should fire (installed) before the GTM one. You added the Termly plugin, but how do we ensure it fires before the GTM one?
Hi! I have a question. We are trying to set up advanced settings for Consent Mode v2. For this, I choose "Not Set" in the consent settings for tags. Also, I set a trigger for them - "all pages" because we don't use CMP GTM Template, but CMP custom script that they provided. Now, I see the next: 1. open website - default consents are set to "denied" (Consent Event in GTM) 2. container loaded + GA4 and Google Tag are fired 3. When the user updates consents, - "cookie_consent_update" event shows, BUT GA4 and Google Tag don't fire again. In this case, GA4 Tag and Google Tag receive updated consent from the user or not? I am worried that all default consents are "denied" and GA4 will not send any data at all.
I think the GA4 tag and other Google advertising related tags (Remarketing, Conversion linker) should be triggered by the cookie_consent_update trigger, instead of all pages trigger. But correct me if I am wrong :)
If the consent management platform works with Google Consent Mode and the tags have built-in consent checks, then you shouldn’t need to adjust the trigger for these tags.
I’d start by checking the consent status for any tags fired after consent has been granted. I’d also suggest contacting support for the consent management platform you’re using.
Thanks for another easy to follow tutorial. Is the new consent mode required for something as simple as tracking conversions in Google Ads? I don't use remarketing in Google Ads but Google don't make it clear, simple referring to "use of Google advertising products". Thanks in advance!
We have implemented advance consent mode using termly but we have noticed the most of paid search data is now going in to direct. Did anyone else seen this if/when they implement consent mode using Termly.
I think you have extremely good courses related to GA4 and cookie consent 2. But what bothers me - if a visitor does not consent to the collection of analytics data then he will not be recorded as a visitor? How does GA4 initiate the collection of anonymous data? I also asked that question on the official GA4 channel, but I didn't get an answer.
Hi, thanks a lot for this easy to follow tutorials. Im just curious, why do you use different firing triggers for Google Analytics tag and Cloud Storage tag when they share the same consent type? You fired GA4 tag on consent initialization, but fired Cloudfare tag at a later stage? since they both require the same consent setting (analytic_storage), wouldn't it better to fire their triggers at the same time? or does this have to do with consent mode for google tags?
Termly has added Google Consent Mode v2 automatically for you. If you want more granular control of the settings, you can adjust them for your consent banner in your account.
@@LovesData we have purchased Termly just now, and before that, we already had a consent banner on the website beeclever GDPR Legal Cookie, and my client wants to keep the current banner only, Can you please suggest what to do next, how to go ahead for consent V2 mode with Termly in this situation?
@@googleadsmanagement9096I don’t think using two platforms is going to be a very good option. You’ll need to contact support for the platform(s) you’re using and figure out a plan.
Its just the way to categorise the tags under consent levels like analytics_storage, ad_storage etc. If a user goes to consent preferences in the cookie banner and selects analytics_storage only for instance then only the tags categorised under analytics_storage will fire. It's not a problem if a user consents to all cookies.

Finally was able to set it thanks to your video!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks Ben.
Thank you, very useful! I'd love it if you could also make a video on how to set up Consent Mode on Squarespace without a CMP.

Always loves data from my deepen heart.💞💞
You are a life saver!
Why there is your GTM container no and your account id in Termly download file ?
Because that’s how containers are exported from Google Tag Manager. These details aren’t used when you import the container.
@@LovesData It means when i use that file, import to my tag manager, it did not send my data to you, right?

Thanks for your video. But, can I ask one question? What is Cloudflare | Analytics tag? I mean what is it's function?
How can you account for additional settings when a tag needs to fire on multiple consent categories?
very useful❤thanks
Is this a basic consent mode or advanced? I'm a bit confused with the way we troubleshoot when it is basic and when it is advanced in GTM preview
Thanks for the video! Very informative. Is this still valid for the new consent mode V2 as well?
Yes

I see G111 in both cases: before Accepting and after. What am I doing wrong?
how do I increase (in GTM) the time that the banner waits on the user to approve? If it dissappears, does it reject cookies by default?
