I picked up two chinchillas about 4 days ago, I’ve been sitting by their cage, reading to them. I’ve been giving them treats. They’ve both let me pet them, mostly the oldest one let me. The younger one is the most wild one who isn’t as tame, he’s skittish and jumpy. I let them out yesterday for play time and let them look everywhere for about 3 hours.
My chinchillas had such a bad home before I saved him but they are still so shy and I've had them for a whole year. They do jump on my shoulders and when they are tired they let me stroke their head and nose but usually they are shy of my hands and when I try and place my hand in the cage (not touching them or too far in so they can walk to me) they jump around and hide in their hammock
Tisha It will take time for them to trust another human again. Just have patience and remember to not try and touch or grab them if they are not comfortable with it. I’m sure in time they’ll be good with you again😉

Cristina Vids It’s pretty easy to tell. If they aren’t always so down and mopey, it’s a good sign. If they are eating and drinking well, chewing their toys, having lots of fun at playtime, those are all good indications😊

Julia Del Percio you normally should give them treats 1-2 times a week or they may get ill and unhealthy so don’t feed your chinchillas a lot of them 👌🏻
Please don't give fruits to chinchillas. They're not good for them. Oats, rose petals, or rose hips are great treats that they'll love and not hurt them 😊
Sam Smith Some chins prefer not to be handled as far as being held and it’s just something you should respect. But I’m sure if you build up their trust they’ll let you scratch or pet their ears or chin😊

My chin and i become better friends at playtime! I just got him yesterday, and he was spooked whenever i made a sound or moved. I opened the door to his cage and let him run out. After a little while, he was jumping on me and let me scratch him. I don’t know if i just got a social chin but playtime seems to also be a good bonding trick!
My chinchillas LOVE food and pretty much anyone can feed them I can my mom and dad can my sister can friends can. the only problem I have is I baby sit two kids that constantly want to hold them and they don't like being held. They like to come out of the cage but then they don't want to be held to get out of it they can't jump out of it cause there cage is on a table so my dog can't get them.

Brittany Banton They aren’t really good with kids, as they are fast and most dislike being held. They are also very fragile and it’s not a good idea to let them out with children where they might accidentally step on them or scare them😌

Thanks. New Chinchilla owner here. Mine got out yesterday and would not let me catch her. I was afraid she would chew something she shouldn't. Eventually, I just grabbed her at base of tail and she freaked out of course. She was scared of me for half the day after. I feel so bad.
@@incanusolorin2607 I did what the breeder told me to do. Base of tail, doesn’t hurt them and much better than grabbing their bodies. Sometimes you have to make decisions for your pets or children that they don’t understand or like and it sucks but you do it anyway for their own safety. If you can’t do that, then probably best not to have children or pets under your care.

Asian AliceYT Well I try not to hav a stern tone of voice with him too often because I don’t want him associating my voice with an angry tone. He may not understand what I’m saying but animals can pick out different tones. I only use a scolding tone when he’s doing something bad (ex. When he’s out for playtime and he starts chewing something bad) and since I use it sparingly and strictly, he immediately stops because he knows he’s not supposed to. I would suggest using it rarely

I only let my 2 chinchillas out everyonce in a while ik that can be a problem but because of dogs and cats, and that they are escape artist and have got out there goes the dog I had to grab him put him into a room and grab both of them
I have a deck and I want to get this play pen where there’s a zipper and it’s very big can I possibly put the playpen out in the winter on my deck and let the chinchilla play he won’t be exactly outside he’ll be inside the playpen but I want him to see the nature outside for a bit ♥️
No, I would strongly advise against that. Not only could anything go wrong and you might lose him, but it's unsafe for him. Domestic chinchillas aren't immune to the dangers outside and can be harmed by the elements, especially since the temperature is much colder than it should be for them. :)

Amor Barrera Same with Merlin. You could let some time pass and try introducing another chin to him, but just know it most likely won’t change. I think I’m going to try bonding Merlin this winter with another chinchilla, but I’m very nervous about it because if it doesn’t work out, I don’t know the other chinnie to have to live alone. So it’s kind a difficult situation if you know what I mean😊💕

Asian AliceYT Well I try not to hav a stern tone of voice with him too often because I don’t want him associating my voice with an angry tone. He may not understand what I’m saying but animals can pick out different tones. I only use a scolding tone when he’s doing something bad (ex. When he’s out for playtime and he starts chewing something bad) and since I use it sparingly and strictly, he immediately stops because he knows he’s not supposed to. I would suggest using it rarely
Im working on buying them a new cage since my dad got the wrong kind (it was a surprise so I wasnt really prepared prepared) how should I keep them happy in the mean time?

Danica Ferrell I have a whole video on Chinchilla bedding. It depends on what type of wood it is, but you can’t use it unless you are sure you know it’s safe for chinchillas😊💕

I have seen lots of chinchillas who are being ignored. It breaks my heart when we just buy them like we buy toys and inanimate objects.
Mojtaba Fallah Well he didn’t die because of how he was cared for. It’s a long story, but basically some dogs got to him and killed him. That’s part of the reason I’m so against introducing cats and dogs to chinnies. 😊
I only let my 2 chinchillas out everyonce in a while ik that can be a problem but because of dogs and cats, and that they are escape artist and have got out there goes the dog I had to grab him put him into a room and grab both of them
I have a deck and I want to get this play pen where there’s a zipper and it’s very big can I possibly put the playpen out in the winter on my deck and let the chinchilla play he won’t be exactly outside he’ll be inside the playpen but I want him to see the nature outside for a bit ♥️
No, I would strongly advise against that. Not only could anything go wrong and you might lose him, but it's unsafe for him. Domestic chinchillas aren't immune to the dangers outside and can be harmed by the elements, especially since the temperature is much colder than it should be for them. :)

Amor Barrera Same with Merlin. You could let some time pass and try introducing another chin to him, but just know it most likely won’t change. I think I’m going to try bonding Merlin this winter with another chinchilla, but I’m very nervous about it because if it doesn’t work out, I don’t know the other chinnie to have to live alone. So it’s kind a difficult situation if you know what I mean😊💕
