I love that someone took the time to take these pictures.❤️📷📸The music on this slideshow is GREAT.🎧🎶🎵GREAT like a tiger.🐅. I love the pictures of the lightning. 🌩 ⛈ ⚡️I love the emptiness of the store. I love the long running lights. 💡
Reminds me of our old Kmart, it was the biggest store in town until Walmart came along. Kmart was surrounded by fast food restaurants too. Luckily they didn't tear the Kmart down when they finally closed their doors around 2007, it's now a Farm Family and Home store, which is like Tractor Supply.
I’m not from that area, but I experienced that entire era. Based on my memory I would say that 1984 was the year that brick and mortar retail was at its height and at its healthiest. Things went downhill after that. At first very slowly but as factories shut down more and more the downturn for brick and mortar retail accelerated. The 2008-9 financial crises sent the brick and mortar retail era to a point of it being beyond recovery. Online shopping didn’t kill the regular retail industry. It was already very sick by the time online shopping became a thing. Wall Street greed killed it including a Wall Street a-hole who merged K-mart and Sears together and doomed both of them.
Came for 3:25 😭 it makes the video even more sentimental and sad William Vanheest died in 2007 and I think Thelma is still alive, but goes under a different name
Sad that in that short time Kmart was there they probably never turned a profit after all the construction. The building spent most of its life NOT Kmart..

I miss Kmart
Don't worry they're from Australia in New Zealand
It’s just sad to see such a massive company go bankrupt and all there stores just perish off to be forgotten about.
I like the 1981 or 1982 beige Malibu Classic in several shots!

Kmart was a family vibe company
That is the old vintage Kmart sign
Back when America was a safe and happy place to go out shopping.
