I love the part where Stevie talked about the psychological reasons for being flat/sharp 🥰 never heard it explained like that. Thank you!

Omg Stevie!! I almost cried because I can sing very well but I was raised in a quiet home. I was never allowed to belt. If my father heard me he would yell at me to shut up. To this day can’t figure out how to project. You are the only one that has ever confirmed my suspicions of that being one the causes of my quiet voice. Weird thing is if I sing in an operatic style I didn’t have this issue. So frustrating.

I hope you feel empowered now to go take lessons that will teach you how to belt. Sing loud and proud!

Whitney always rushes live. Maybe not that part but, she loves a good rush or short phrasing for live versions. I love when she switches up her phrasing…it’s like a sped up/talk singing thing she does.

1st thought: These vocal stylings 🎤 are a major gift 🎁 from the African American (Black) church. ⛪️ You hear it in every TV vocal competition and throughout the world. Unfortunately, in show business those who are not Black (or dark skinned) will benefit the most because of colorism.

Did David say that Whitney was using too many runs/riffs pre Bodyguard? On record? WTH? Live perhaps and even then it was not that much. But on record? SMDH! He's right about that Titanic song. i HATE it too. Arrgggh!

I mean, considering that David has the most hits writing and producing for almost every big artist, I think he knows what he’s talking about 😂

This makes me laugh, I am wondering why David is there. He’s supposedly working on a musical for Broadway. I hope he get to opening an incredible production. It takes a lot of patience and collaboration. These singers are so cute yet average. And Stevie is weird I don’t live in Hollywood anymore but I would tell people out there. The young vocalist that they’re are tons of great vocal teachers in LA and New York. Example you can go take lessons from Katherine’s mom ( P McPhee David wife’s mom) and get excellent results. This is all driven by marketing. I want to see him work with someone who can really sing. Example, JLo is not a singer at all. She’s a dancer. I always remember seeing Paula Abdul who I loved and she had these two great back up singers back there. I felt like they should come out and take a bow at the end of the show because all she did was just kind of a whisper through the whole show she sang, but she’s not a singer. She’s a dancer, and it was kind of horrible. People need to stop the bullshit in Hollywood. A few really good singers only come along every so often it’s very rare and people have to remember that the business is about business. Singing is just way down there at the bottom somewhere. Most people in that town will never make $100,000 singing. I think that most in that town would benefit from going and taking some business classes and being associated with great lawyers from the day they arrive in LA. It doesn’t matter how pretty you are how great you sing at the end of the day if you don’t make money, it’s all bullshit. So many singer have forgotten that to have a big career takes tons of money that has to be recouped with a great profit. I saw so many great songwriters and incredible people with so much raw talent go back home because they realized that the business was too costly. I am sorry but LA is filled with gross people with no integrity or morals. They see artist as cash cows. It’s actually a very sad story most of the time. Look at who is killing it. Mostly young white singers. For some reason the business isn’t interested in people with brown skin no matter how talented they are. It’s a bunch minstrels out there playing games with the children’s lives.

Love the enthusiasm. Try to go to one his Taco Tuesdays. Figure out who is in his crowd and attend with them. Other than that, pay. He’s not cheap.

He has a website where he explains how taco Tuesday works, unless you buy the $500 jacket you can’t go to that event. But he has a class on monthly I just took and it helped so much, one on one classes with him are super expensive but his website explains all.
