Mariah and Boys II Men both wrote this song. The song is an interpolation of two songs. The group had a song that paid homage to their tour manager Khalil who was killed in 1992. Mariah wanted to record a song with them written to pay homage to her friend David Cole of C&C Music factory. Boyz II Men realized that the subject matter of her song matched the subject matter of theirs and Mariah and her producer Walter Asfinioff combined the two.
Still the longest #1 song on the Billboard charts history, we don’t claim “Old Town Road”, such a shame to the music industry. Anyway you always look so good in violet 😍

The reason they sound so emotionally invested, besides their talent, is because they wrote it for people they’d recently lost.
That was the lead singer Wanya morris . He used to date brandy and one of the best singers ever
well he wasn't the lead they shared leads and ad libs in the group . yes they did solo projects . but it was not any lead singer of the group .
Mariah and Boyz II Men opened the 1996 Grammys with this song. It was so impressive that some of the audience were teary eyed after, including Brandy. Mariah was nominated for 6 awards that year, including Record of the Year for this song (which was still #1 at the time) and Album of the Year for Daydream. She was shut out of everything, which shocked everyone that year, including many critics who predicted she would clean up that night. It's considered one of the biggest injustices in Grammy history.
After that, Mariah went on to score 9 more number #1s and solidified her legendary status in the industry. Moral of the story: awards, at the end of the day, are just SHELF ORNAMENTS and do not define your worth, potential, or legacy.

Can you believe Mariah didn’t win a Grammy for this song, it was nominated but she didn’t win. Mariah had like over 5 nominations for her album daydream (the album this song is in along with Fantasy) but did not win one single Grammy. That’s why so many of us fans hate the Grammys because they robbed Mariah so many times.
This song really haunts me everytime I Iisten to it because I remember my late father. Mariah is really an excellent song writer aside from an excellent singer because she put so much emotions to this song and you can really feel it especially if you have a lost somebody. I read an article about this song and apparently Mariah and Boyz 2 men each wrote lyrics separately and they were so similar they mixed both sets of lyrics together and there you have this amazing song!

I love this song. Every time I hear it though it catapults me back to a very sad memory that’s burned into my mind forever. One of my good friends little brother, who was only 8 at the time, died tragically by an accidentally hanging. I was 15 at the time. They played this at his funeral and I will never forget seeing all of his little classmates just sobbing and sobbing. Ohhhh it was heartbreaking. Every time I hear that song I can close my eyes and still see the absolute wave of heart break and grief on everyone’s face. Nevertheless, that’s still one of my favorite songs of all time. ❤

I have always loved this song, but it took a new place in my heart after one of my best friends passed away unexpectedly two years ago. I listened to it every day for weeks, even when it hurt like hell. Just hearing this song in your reaction makes me think of him and the tears start to well. Thank you for this video, and thank you for showing this song the appreciation and mad respect it deserves.

She dedicated this song to a best friend david Cole from c&c factory who died that year in 1995 but you probably heard one of their 1990 song called gonna make you sweat (everybody dance now)but she told her then controlling husband that she wanna do a song with boyz ii men as a tribute to David Cole but now the song has become a beautiful ballad classic you can hear it playing at weddings graduations and funerals.
The gentleman you're referring to is Wanya Morris, & he's a vocal beast! But make no mistake-Boyz II Men is the only group (that I know) that has no lead singers. They instead get our write a song, then determine which member fits certain parts of the song-that's why EVERYONE "goes in".

Oh man growing up as a kid in the 90's radio and TV were like the only places where we can listen to music. It's not like today where we can just play any song and listen to any song we want. I just had certain radio stations that I would jump back and forth between to check which songs were playing. This song was SOOO big at the time that it would constantly be playing on every radio station simultaneously. It actually held the record for the most amount of weeks at #1 on billboards, since it came out in the mid 90s, until just recently when that lil nas old town song just broke its record by 1 week.

The vocals and production are amazing though her songwriting is the true focal point. She once said it took 4 years for her to finish writing this song. IT WAS WORTH IT. Her cascading vocals, honesty within the song and emotion makes this track a true undiscovered highlight of her career.

Fun fact: When Boys II men came for Mariah Carey they showed her the song they were writing and then Mariah showed them the song she was working on and they were both so similar so they combined both them. They wrote it and donated part of the proceeds to HIV positive people because they all had lost some friends to that disease. This song was so popular that it debuted at #1 on the Billboard hot 10o and stayed atop for record braking 16 weeks. Tittle it held for 25 years until Old Town road beat it last year but it was not fair because Old Town road had several remixes and their rating all count towards BB charts as a single song where's this one was a unique song ND until this day helps people to ger through the loss of a beloved
That dude at the end was Wanya, him and the first dude who sang Nate are brothers. The Skinny dude who sang the 2nd verse is Shawn, and then the dude with the bass in his voice is Mike, tho he's not really in the group anymore. They still tour till this day and recently had a revue show in Vegas. they just did the national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game this year.
