Hi Jason, It is such a skill to be able to work with wood and produce things that look so neatly finished the way you have done it. A dark blue permanent market may solve the white line problem. With regard to the roof, you will feel so satisfied when it is completed which is something to look forward to. The video content is great with the variety you have provided, after all, it is called "Making Stuff, Going Places". Kind regards, Alexandra.
“Not a lot of content” - rubbish! - there’s so much to enjoy about this vid 😊 Kiama, Bombo Headland (yep I would have gone beyond the “extreme danger” sign to have a look too 😉 Your overhead cupboard and blind set up was amazing. Methinks you are a bit of a perfectionist- what you design and create with your hands is beyond impressive. Also good to hear your frustrations about getting stuff done as well as looking out for your mum with her new house search. Hope you get a reprieve in the Blue Mountains
Thanks 😊 I like to think I'm a perfectionist, but most the time my heart's just not in it. I'm also very impatient and just want to reach the end goal 😂
I’ve been out doing some van life myself. Nice to take a break from looking after mum. Ahh the joys aye? I’ve just been down to the border of vic/nsw through the snowys, just in Canberra now and about to head to the south coast, not sure which part of the south coast I’ll pop out just yet but I’m looking forward to getting away from the Canberra cold! Take it easy and thanks for the videos even though I haven’t had a chance to comment much on them lately - know that I’m still watching them! 😀
Thanks Tony. Great to hear you're out on the road and getting a well deserved break. Way too cold for me down there right now!😂 I think I'll do the snowys in summer. Enjoy the south coast... everywhere down there is awesome.
"Living your best life" (Cliche'd phrase) Jason, is your goal and you're doing it, regardless of whatever odds come your way. The content of this video was great, as it really showcases the nuts and bolts of you perfecting your van to what you want. It also is a video journal of the ups and downs of life for you, without overdoing it. I really like these more introspective videos you're making. As I've always mentioned in my comments, they're the real deal depicting van life as it really is, with a glimpse of what's happening inside of you...... Keep having fun and enjoying life. Sean.
Thanks Sean. Very thoughtful words. It does help put things in perspective. It will be nice to have the van totally finished...I need to keep that in mind!😁
It's so "annoying" (for want of a better description) when the things that need to be done at some point, now need to be done to meet a different deadline. As I'm someone who needs a lot of time by myself, I get your need for space and how that impacts on achieving that. Once it's all done then it's hopefully done for good and you can spend your time doing the things you enjoy more. I had a reasonable list of things (nothing really major but still important to me) that I wanted to get done on a 3 week leave break but I broke them up doing things I didn't need to do but chose to do - getting them all done without pressure was an amazing feeling. Hope you soon get that same result.
Thanks Allie 😊 It's funny....when I originally built the van, I spent 3 months of 8 to 1 hour days, 6 days a week working on it....now I can't handle 3 days!😂 As you say, I need to break it into short chunks. I think I just need to get my head back into the right frame of mind to work hard again 😂
Thanks for sharing 😊 not boring at all, I hope ya mum finds somewhere that she will feel safe and happy . The Royce retirement living is in a great location (Penrith) and plenty to see and do there. I Have friends there and they love it 😁.
Thanks Jeanie. She's very much against going in to anything that's called a "retirement village". She's got this mental image of it being a place to go and die. For now she's still able to look after herself, but potentially won't be able to drive soon, so we found an apartment attached to shops. Hopefully she'll be good there for a few more years 😁
Try using a warm iron to run over the excess edge stripping on your new top cupboard (with a tea towel in between for protection), working it down and around the front side of the door.
That's a good idea. I was thinking of hitting it with the hot air gun, but an iron will be a little more targeted. Less chance of damaging the face of the door.
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces I would have just fitted a couple of dark blue curtains across that over-head space, running on narrow rods top and bottom to make them solid enough to prevent items from falling out. A lot easier to fit that non-square opening too 🙂
Just a little tip when cutting laminated board, mark your cut line, then put masking tape over the line, remark the line on the tap so you can see it better and the cut, the tape stops all those little chips on the cut line so you get a clean cut
Yeah, I do always tape the cuts....I just didn't have the blade deep enough on that one. I did another panel with 3 cuts and all were perfect 🙄 Just a stupid mistake....again 😂
Beautiful coastline once again ❤ Interesting seeing how complicated and frustrating a van build is using straight edge material on a curved surface of a van. Was watching 2 whales frolicking for over an hr few days ago where I live in Qld. So relaxing. True the more chilled life in solitude you lead the less tolerant to the challenges of what others call " ordinary " life you become. I dont normally do such a long comment sorry if its a rant. Look forward to more nature videos when life gets back to normal again for you. All the best for your mums move.
Thanks Wendy, you're always welcome to leave long comments 😁 The whales sound nice! There doesn't seem to be a lot of action from them down south....I guess they're all hungry 😂
Remember to breathe Jason, which for you is 'get on ya bike'. Try not to get pessured by the timeframe, it will work out. You have a lot going on at the moment, be kind to yourself. So much work involved in van builds, not straight forward...pun intended 🙂 Glad my van is more a temporary set up, I would have relished the challenges when younger but these days, I take easy. Diminishing tolerance, can also be an age thing combined with living out of the norm. Lovely beach scenes you captured , some I have put on my llist instead of whizzing by them. I expect you've completed a fair bit since you posted this vid. Getting closer everyday to being out of your mums driveway 🙂
Thanks Pauline, you're exactly right....I need to get on my bike 😂 I think I need to try 3 days van work, 3 day not van work 😁 It amazes me how much I can't stand being in the one place anymore 😂
@paulineh4019 yeah... freedom form a lot of things!😁 I'm hoping to get my van done quickly as the next step will be sorting out mums move.... Fun, fun, fun 😂
Thanks for talking a little about your GVM. I see so many well equipped and extremely attractive van interiors (shiplap walls, ceilings, wooden floors) and wondered if they were over weight. I’m guessing composite is lighter?
Yeah, I would say most self built vans out there are way overweight, but it does depend on what vehicle they use to start with. Aluminium composite panels are very light compared to wood but a little more tricky to work with.
Don't worry to much about your GVM, I've had my Mitsubishi Rosa converted to a MH since 2011, done nearly 100000k's never ever been checked since the OG weigh in! Not that I feel it's over, but yuh never know!!
Yeah, the odds of getting caught are low, but I'll still do my best to keep it within the rules. I pay the government enough as it is.....don't need fines as well 😂

You're right, it will be so good to have the roof finished. Just got to focus for a while 😁
Nice work on the overhead storage, it looks great!! Loved all those rocks at Kiama too, it’s so interesting the way they’ve formed. Great video!
Thanks Sally. Making slow progress 😁

Rub a dark blue crayon along the edge of the panel where the iron-on edging hasn't covered the rough cut line.
I might be able to get a paint pen that matches the colour...🤔
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces That too - ideally, stop staring at it!
@ThrottleAddiction 😂 it's one of those things.... I can't unsee it now...
Great that you built the van - i had a factory build mine - hope the head space clears - cheers
Thanks Ben. I can't say I enjoy the build process, but I do enjoy the end result 😁
They film lots of car adds in that quarry.
Oh, ok. I guess it could be quite popular for that sort of stuff, being so unique.
It is looking good ❤

Near my favourite beach, The Farm at Killalea. Beautiful part of the coast. Enjoy 😊
I saw the sign for that area when I was driving back. I really want to visit Bushranger Bay, so will check out the whole area one day.
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces it’s worth the visit, in my humble opinion 😊.
What bed and mattress are you using?
It's all custom made.
Some shots in the below video, plus the week 9 build video.

Great to see you’re getting those pesky jobs done Jason, regardless of life’s pressures. Be kind to yourself.

I really do need to try it one day!😁
Can yuh brush a bit of black paint on the edge banding?
That's certainly my back up plan! I'll try heat first...perhaps on the opposite side just in case...
I heard that the Bombo headland is known to the locals as "The Toothbrush"
😂 yeah, I can see that!
Next time put masking tape on top of the saw line and then cut - it won’t chip …
👍
Do you have plans to head further afield?
Yes, absolutely, but I now need to wait until I have helped my mother move to her new house. So probably won't get away until next year🙄
Good thing that isnt a Jamie Packer, you would be well over you gvm. Roam wasnt built in a day as they say. 🤪
😂 I'll get there eventually..
