That's interesting that he compares the big food manufacturers advertising tactics to that of big tobacco's because about the time the health effects of tobacco use came to light, the big tobacco companies started buying food manufacturers...which is also another thing that happened about the time obesity really started to take off. That, and doctors telling us to eat low fat diets, which leaves carbohydrates to turn to.
After over 200 days dieting I realized something really important - I used to try to eat 300 to 350 cals three times per day. This meal plan did stick within my calorie goals, because it was 900 to 1050 cals per day and for a lot of people, that's an "extreme" diet cutting about 1,000 cals per day. Now, what I realised was, I want to drink wine (at 160 cals per glass and drinking 4 or 5 glasses per night) but I was also willing to do a 500+ calorie bike ride every day on my indoor smart trainer! Can you see what's happening there? I could manage to be basically drunk every night but also do enough of a workout on the indoor bike trainer it almost cancelled out the wine. Here's the most important thing I worked out and honestly, you will understand how vital this is if you experiment and try it: 1. Wake up. 2. After two hours, eat a meal that has around 600 to 700 cals. This is scary maybe, because this is probably 60% to 80% of your total calories for the day... but trust me it's not that scary and you will see why... 3. Four or five hours after eating that big meal, do a bike ride - preferably on a smart trainer that tells you the calories burned. If you can't measure that, it's not that important, if you try your hardest you'll burn maybe 600 cals per hour... trying at moderate pace 300 or 400 cals per hour. Don't worry about it... 4. Since that bike ride was 4 or 5 hours after eating, you will have a rumbling/growling belly at the end of the bike ride, but do you notice that it's not an _uncomfortable_ amount of hunger? You're not "starving" as such? This is the key to the whole thing... 5. Just after that bike ride, eat about 200 or 300 cals. The usual diet plans will say you can eat 1,100 or 1,200 cals, but can you notice that it's simply not necessary? You won't be hungry enough that you need to eat like a horse! You just don't need to. Have a small (hopefully healthy) 200 or 300 calorie meal and you'll be OK. Up to now you have consumed at the most 700 cals. 6. Wanna get drunk? This is what's so amazing about this meal plan. You can not drink and if you don't, you will cut *a lot* of calories without it being uncomfortable. Because of the bike ride being -300 cals and you eating ~1,000 cals, you'd be going to bed (not all that hungry thus able to get to sleep) at a caloric intake of around 700 calories. If you want say 4 glasses of wine this would bump up the intake to 1640 cals which is still good and still a decent caloric deficit.

Fasting should be easy when you adjust to it. It's great to do an extended fast but if you're looking for a lifestyle then I suggest skipping breakfast as an intermittent fast and having lunch as late as you can. It's a super short fast but very effective and your body isn't up and down like a yoyo from not eating one day and adjusting to refeeding the next. You will notice mental clarity in your life for the most part of the day until you eat in the afternoon too. I love it.

Spouse sabotage of weight loss dieting. This is so true. They will ask questions like "why do you want to lose weight, you look fine!", "do you think I'm over weight? then why do you want to?", "I heard if you lose weight to quickly it's bad for you"....
Any kind of intermitent fasting will set a bipolar person off whether its 5:2 or 16:8 or whatever. I tried it and went hypomanic as well as experiencing lack of sleep.
@@roxanatunaru Unfortunately the lack of sleep continued until I became manic. I could only sleep again (and hence become unmanic ) when I stopped the IF. I've heard other bipolars say the same thing. It's better to haave a fat stomach and be sane than the other way around.
I was really disappointed with the Fast 800 keto book. It focused more in the 800 calories than it did on the balance with carbs, fats and proteins. Any diet that reduces calories to 800-900 calories a day will result in weight loss, it has nothing to do with Keto. The content didn't focus well on the Keto side of things as a way to loose weight, or to get that balance right and it didn't say if the recommended 50 gms of carbs per day were total or NET. All other keto diets that I have looked at state 20 gms NET carbs per day for weight loss in keto.
He keeps referring to sugar, but I hardly consume any sugar yet I am overweight. I am overweight because I have diet high in carbs and quantity. I would much rather have a cheese or salami sandwich than a chocolate bar. So I think the whole sugar leads to overeating and weight gain story is over simplified. Anyway the body turns carbs into sugar in your body(flood sugar/glucose), so it's not necessary to eat a lot of sugar to gain weight.
Sugar is a highly refined carb, so it packs a big punch. Cut down on carbs, you need less than 100g of carbs per day. High blood sugar affects the release of hunger hormones, so you feel hunger pangs stronger, and you don't get the full up feeling fast enough. Bread is just as bad as sugar, plus it contains gluten which can cause leaky sut syndrome.
Dr. Mosley said repeatedly in his books and his documentary that refined starches are simply concentrated sugar. Eating a lot of starchy carbohydrates is just as bad as eating sugar. Stick to low-glycaemic-index foods and you'll be fine.
Bread, wheat, rice, potatoes will all lead to high blood sugar spikes. Try reading up on Glycemic Index and Glycemic load. Have you had yourself test for diabetes or prediabetes in the last year?
I don’t know why when this sort of information comes from a British doctor I feel credibility is not an issue,in USA all the bravado around advertising makes me more cautious about anything like this.
@@Falconlibrary I suppose it makes sense, pharmaceutical companies in USA have a sinister agenda,it is not the people’s health concerns them, all they care about is the profit they make.
Christianity encourages fasting which is good for your cells in your body. Fasting also causes autophagy which detoxifies your organs and makes you loose weight. Jews eat Kosher. @@MrBeckenhimself the 5:2 diet isn't to do 800 calories everyday. That's very low and quite dangerous. I'm not surprised you went through all of that. It's a 5 day normal eating (maintenance calories) 2 days low calories (600-800) system per week.

Not sure what this mentions about the 5:2 diet...
nothing
@@VashtiPerry can you eat anything you want five days a week and as much calories as u want i love my food...then fast 2 days i can handle that as long as i can have my ham burgers puzas and cakes
@@ranatangboo1185 You still need to eat healthily on the feed days. You don’t need to adhere to a specific caloric target, so you can eat whatever amount you want but it still needs to be healthy fulfilling food. If you just eat junk food on your feed days, you’ll still have very high cholesterol even if you lose weight.
Rest in peace amen 🙏 🌹🌹🌹🌼🌼🌼💐💐💐
The last three times I started the 5 2 fast I had intestine problems.is that common?
I wonder why when i train , i am not losing weight inspite i have the same amount of food
Spouse sabotage of weight loss dieting. This is so true. They will ask questions like "why do you want to lose weight, you look fine!", "do you think I'm over weight? then why do you want to?", "I heard if you lose weight to quickly it's bad for you"....
Everybody Hydrate !!!!! 😅🚰🚰
Fasting a whole day without animal fat or salty drink/food is not a good idea in hot areas.
Red wine.. I LOVE IT
eating 800 calories is not fasting its damaging. fasting is not eating. eating 800 calories is calorie restriction. two different body responses.
You should try though...😬
Calorie restriction is the one proven thing that extends longevity
Any kind of intermitent fasting will set a bipolar person off whether its 5:2 or 16:8 or whatever. I tried it and went hypomanic as well as experiencing lack of sleep.
L Thomson80 the lack of sleep can happen when starting IF but it goes away after a few days. At least that’s what happened in my case.
@@roxanatunaru Unfortunately the lack of sleep continued until I became manic. I could only sleep again (and hence become unmanic ) when I stopped the IF. I've heard other bipolars say the same thing. It's better to haave a fat stomach and be sane than the other way around.
L Thomson80 I’m sorry to hear that. Best of luck to find a way that works great both for your mental and physical health 🙌🏼
Can anyone tell me if the body actually reaches a sate of autopraphy during either the 5 2 or fast 800 eating Plans?
5:2 is eating 5 days and fasting [not eating] 2 days. this guy was in an documentary and lost weight doing it.
Oh bummer. I thought it was the one where you ate healthily for 5 days and lived it up on the weekend!
@@jetstream1146I was hoping for the same 😂
A clever and decent man. Thinking of his wife, children and family and friends at this sad time. What a tragic loss.
Family members do sabotage you
R.I.P. 1957-2024 :(
Sadly, Dr Mosley’s body has been found. RIP.
Well eating burgers and pizza and cheese, trans fat can also make people fat. Stop blaming sugar
RIP.
I totaly would snought up a boul of sugar if health allowed it.
I don’t know why when this sort of information comes from a British doctor I feel credibility is not an issue,in USA all the bravado around advertising makes me more cautious about anything like this.
British medicine doesn't have the baked-in profit motive, is why
@@Falconlibrary I suppose it makes sense, pharmaceutical companies in USA have a sinister agenda,it is not the people’s health concerns them, all they care about is the profit they make.
The world has lost a beautiful man
Doing my by myself, on day 7, and my man is the one that needs to lose it ' I feel like kfc' is my annoyance
Christianity encourages fasting which is good for your cells in your body. Fasting also causes autophagy which detoxifies your organs and makes you loose weight.
Jews eat Kosher. Eating Kosher is also good for you it reduces your chances of food poisoning and irritable bowel and inflammation in the body.
God bless you

Sad😢
He is misinformed. A lot of inaccurate information here. And the host is so annoying
Are you?
Fadist for money (don't fast! organisms need fuel daily - dangerous to fast); still though is very nice and like everyone I hope he's o.k. :(
😢😢😢😢
He was killed!
Spousal sabotage…wooow!😢
I swear he should have lived more
Little or no carbs. He really doesn't know what he's talking about.
All this guy did was help people and to end up dying the way he did is just terrible.
, l
Yeah I'm sorry but he's wrong.
I've tried that 800 calorie a day thing.
You know what happened?
Actually let me tell you.
*Flat lined libido. It was zero. Mini me didn't work at all.
*Zero energy, and I do mean zero.
*Zero interest of doing anything.
*Constant depression.
*Constant anxiety.
*Problem sleeping.
*Increased heart rate and I do mean by A LOT. Usually it's between 45-47. During that 800 calorie diet it was 96 at rest. Not kidding.
*Blood pressure went UP.
*Restless all the time.
*Weight GAIN instead of weight loss.
In other words all the things Michael says won't happen, is just what ended up happening.
I have a VERY active life style. I walk around 17-20 thousand steps per day. I workout four or five days a week.
So everything this guy said wasn't gonna happen, happened to me.
I wonder what he's excuses for that are. Still waiting to hear them.
Did you do 800 calories everyday?
@@tamimhusain3376 800 calories on the dot. Did nothing positive for me what so ever. Nothing.
@@MrBeckenhimself the 5:2 diet isn't to do 800 calories everyday. That's very low and quite dangerous. I'm not surprised you went through all of that. It's a 5 day normal eating (maintenance calories) 2 days low calories (600-800) system per week.
@@tamimhusain3376 Yeah you haven't been paying attention to what he said not so long ago.
These days he DOES claim that eating 800 calories a day for two weeks straight won't give you any issues. After the two weeks he saya to stick with 1800-2000 calories which is still too low for me.
I know because I've tried that too.
His first stuff was the 5:2 then came the 800. The 800 is what I followed and it made me crash and burn completely. Never again.
@@MrBeckenhimself yeah you're right I didn't really pay attention to him, I just went by the video title, my bad. That is quite interesting to read from you his diet structure and your experiences with it. It certainly does seem very low. I could maybe see it working for a few days or a week even of 800 calories. But 2 weeks does sound too much for the average person.
Surprising, but he miss represents the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet is not a low-carb diet, it includes whole grains and legumes.
I like this guy, but he’s not as knowledgeable as he comes across.
Compared to the western diet, the Mediterranean diet is lower in carbs
This clown of a doctor claims eating 800 Calories in a day is fasting. And a number of his videos are banning comments
It’s pretty obvious why. Fasting is doing 16/8 or 18/6 or longer...that’s what the real drs. Will tell you.
Thordur Hogna thanks for that, I’m not sure about insulin , but of course I didn’t mention insulin I talked about fasting...
You can break a fast by having too much cream in your coffee
He also.lied about 5.2 diet he said eat as much as u want five days a a week anything fast 2 days
@@ranatangboo1185 did you watch the documentary, did you buy the book.
Promoting healthy eating.. so we don’t have to use pharmaceutical drugs…. government definitely had something to do with he’s death
Not everything is a conspiracy.
Healthy eating also saves the government money healthcare is expensive if everyone followed his advice the NHS wouldn't have to spend as much.
He is hardly the only person to have promoted healthy eating..not everything is a conspiracy.
Bottle blonde" Why is 2 parts sugar + 1 part fat so addictive?"
Dead doctor "I'll tell you why.... rapid weight loss works!"
FFS answer the question. This guy is more politician than doctor.
Finish the video and you'll see the introduction is a fragment from the main body of the video (and he answers the question). The problem is in the editing.
Turns out those diets and so called healthy eating didn’t do him any good. Just eat everything in moderation is the best advice.
What's wrong with you? He died during a heatwave, not because of a diet.
@@peanutnutter1What’s wrong with you? I didn’t say dieting killed him that day. 😡 I’m saying dieting does not work, it’s unhealthy. Eating in moderation is the way to go.
@@anthonyharty1732 BS you were suggesting directly that 'so called healthy eating' doesn't do any good, and mocking the irony, the message was clear and unequivocal, at least stand by your own words and don't try and weasel out of it.
Furthermore eating 'everything' is likely bad advice, though moderation of calories can be OK.
Carry on anyway.
@@peanutnutter1 BS you weasel. I said it didn’t do HIM! any good. HE! was the one promoting diets and healthy eating. I was talking to a woman who goes in the Cafe that I go to who is 90 and she said she ate anything that she wanted to but not too much of it. Never dieted. 😂🤣😂 Your name says a lot about you, the word nutter is in there. You are the one who’s started to insult me.
@@peanutnutter1BS, I said healthy eating and dieting didn’t do HIM! any good as well as saying diets aren’t healthy. He was the one promoting all this stuff. He died before his time, the way he ate didn’t make his heart work any better. I was talking to a woman who’s 90 the other day and asked what was her secret for a longer life was and what foods she ate. She says there is no secret and no magic food or diet. That’s good enough advice for me. You need to calm down and stop calling people names, it’s childish. 😂🤣
I liked him once upon a time with his mavericks of science stuff 15+ years ago. But I never listened to him for more than ten seconds once he became a Jamie Oliver dietician clown.
Because M.Mosley believed he was far fitter and healthier than he was, he was average and average going on a hike in the rocky hills on a Greek Island in 35C+ heat. I bet he wished he'd brought some nice Coca Cola along. That would have saved his fucking life.
I remember thinking about coca cola walking in the hot summer heat back from the city about 7 miles round trip as a 10 year old kid. Didn't Mosley ever have that experience? Even as an adult?
Mmmmm another truther bites the dust Do n9t believe it
