    Great video. Looks like a couple of Amtrak locos needed a helping hand! Four hours late would be a long time here in the UK but then none of our trains are expected to take on a 3,000 mile trips! Thanks for posting. Enjoyed it.

    That 1953 era baggage car probably has more in common with the Super Chief than that freight unit. Nice video/slide show BTW.

      I just double checked and yes, 1855 is ex-ATSF baggage car. Thanks for the heads up.

    There's a similar locomotive to 1722 currently leased by SMVRR; it's identical to 1722 except it's number is 1322, and is an EMD GP7u built 1952 for AT&SF. It arrived this just past Friday. Come on up to the Central coast, Snuffs! You can visit operational narrow gauge steamies and get to see awesome GE 70 tonners, not to mention our lovely ex-Milwaukee road GP9.

    When they send a rescue locomotive, is it still an Amtrak crew up front running the train? Do they still run at the passenger speed limit?
    Also, I assume that freight companies (like BNSF in this case) sends these locomotives out to get a dead train off their lines ASAP to prevent line obstructions, as opposed to waiting for Amtrak to send another locomotive from perhaps another state to pick up their train. Is this why we often see rescued trains led by freight locomotives?

  • @MNpolarbear
    @MNpolarbear 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yes they do, need some more reliable locomotives like an sd 40-2.

    Amtrak's new diesel is, from what I've read, called the Siemens Charger. It's a 4-axle carbody type. Sides are smooth and the front end resembles that of a light rail vehicle. You can google it. Typical European style design with smooth sides and no nose, yet supposedly safe for crews in collisions. EPA compliant. Still to me it just doesn't have that rugged look of horsepower and brute strength that we saw with the SDP40F, F40, and even the P30s. I guess that's progress.

      talk to the republican politicians that dont want to fund Amtrak at all.

    • @the_disabled_gamer2832
      @the_disabled_gamer2832 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      BNforever2009 Why is it that people like you have to turn every god dam thing into a political subject, and btw do your god dam homework, BOTH Democrats and Repuplicans want to get rid of Amtrak not just one party alone because it loses millions of money on it every year just to name one reason, ffs get your shit straight before you open your garbage hole !

    • @BNforever2009
      @BNforever2009 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you need to close your garbage hole and stop listening to Fox News or False News. I know and thousands of others know how the damn repubnuts want to get rid of amtrak. Here in Illinois under democrat governors, Amtrak has added service and planned on adding new service from Chicago to Dubuque Iowa. Now that is just dreams because of this new self made billionaire governor. It wont happen at all and now he he cutting back service and eliminating some Amtrak routes here. He is cutting back on giving funds to the RTA, Chicago's commuter service and the CTA here in Chicago. We all know there will be service eliminations and fare hikes AGAIN. I figured that will happen. He dont care about anything that benefit the people that need it but he wont do anything to close the private airports and give the big airports more money and funds the airlines more money. Think he cares, hundreds of daycare services around the state are closing up because he wont fund them now. In Indiana, those people are piss poor and most are working minimum wage jobs because its a republican "right to work (for minimum wage) state. Indiana didnt even want to keep providing funds for Amtrak to keep the Chicago to Indianapolis service. Indiana is the first state to have a 1 billion dollars surplus and all the repub politicians there wanna do is spend it for themselves. Not helping the people who need it. Why does Amtrak doesnt continue running the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans? Why? Because of a major republican senator in Georgia that has all his cronies in Georgia and Alabama and South Carolina and Florida that dont want nothing to do with Amtrak and dont want to fund Amtrak at all. Tell you what, dont fund the private airline manufacturers and the airports they fly out of, bet ya they would raise holy hell on that! The ONLY reason Amtrak is still running the Crescent is because of a famous man and his true political friends that believed in him, Mr Graham Claytor, he was President of the Southern Rwy and President of Amtrak years ago. He knew railroading and he knew POLITICS. He was successful in BOTH. Another reason is because of the democrats in New York state and other eastern states that keep it running. Still, people like you, wont admit to these nuts that want to shut down everything and say oh everybody is doing it, NO. The ones you like are doing it! I tell you what, people in this country are waking up and getting tired of this mess and there will be a change, a big change years later. Ask the nuts that voted for that numbskull Marquette University dropout republican governor in wisconsin. Eliminating their unions and everything with it and making sure that people will be making minimum wage--oh, its a JOB, you should be happy. Yea, theyre not happy at all. Even the Talgo, the train manufacturer had a major lawsuit against him up there.

      BNforever2009 Aww i see you can't go do your own homework and you just want to play the politic party blame game like all left wing reaterded nut jobs, figures...people like you are all the same !

    • @BNforever2009
      @BNforever2009 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      i guess you cant speak up for the republican governors thats screwing up the states and the republinuts thats always running for office saying the stupidest stuff. I will make sure another democrat thats twice as smart than all the repub nuts in Congress. I been did my homework ALREADY. You keep watching Fox News. Should be FauxNuts. Even the employees that work for Amtrak knows the repubnuts trying to wipe them out, I got 3 relatives that work for them and they already know that. Ok President, keep that VETO PEN out and ready. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

      Outside Albuquerque, NM. The Amtrak crews would rather have a six axle GE on point but there aren't usually any in Albuquerque, so they have a pick of the "switcher litter" at the local BNSF yard. They've used a four axle ATSF GP60 before.

    I have a question or comment for anybody here about the accident that happened last week with the MetroLink train. Don't you think that if the engine had being leading the train it would have blasted right trough the truck? and in knowing this why would they put a car in front?! I know about not being able to turn the engines around, but they could have another engine facing the other direction. RT
