    🎹 For MAC users, drives formatted in HFS and APFS will also work, as long as they are not encrypted.

    I just bought a Toshiba external hard disk drive and it’s NTFS. I kind of felt that it’s the issue why I can’t transfer any files. So I did some Google search, and your vide was the first to pop up, and it quite clearly showed the solution. I will go home and reformat the hard drive to exFAT. Thanks for this tutorial!

    I have a seagate 2TB HD for my iPad Pro. So you know you don’t need to power a HD with the iPad Pro as it’s powerful enough to power the HD. Also I just purchased a Sata HD caddy for my iPad Pro that can hold 3.5 or 2.5 HD’s. As I don’t own any form of pc or laptop anymore and have a collection of old HD’s with stuff on them I need to get off/use and then clear space on them for future backups.
    so I’ll let you know how that turns out when it arrives on Friday.

      Nice one! Yes, I had read/heard that some combinations of iPad and drive do work, but wanted I make sure that this works for every iPad and iPhone user; and a powered hub is never a bad idea, especially for audio interfaces and hard drives!

    After owning a 128GB 7th Gen iPad (renewed) for 10 months, I've discovered my headphone jack has developed a glitch (stereo cuts out unless the plug is in the "right" position). So, I may be looking at a replacement iPad that might not have 128GB and, if so, I will need an external drive. I have two already: Seagate 1TB and a Seagate 2TB USB Hard Drives. Both still have loads of storage left, so "maybe" the budget solution is using one or the other (or both) with a "new" iPad. I already have a perfectly useful 6th Gen iPad that I could go back to, which has only 32GB. Combined with the two Seagate drives, that might suffice. The newer 2TB drive has more available storage. Whaddaya think, Pete? Any recommendations? One thing I wonder about is how many apps this arrangement can accomodate. Can iPad apps be run from an external drive? I seem to recall reading that this isn't possible.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there my friend. So... external drives are great for later models iPads (especially iPad Pros), however, spinning drives (as opposed to SSDs - the Solid State and more expensive ones) are not super great. And, you can only really use these for data storage and not running apps.
      Question though.... have you cleaned out the headphone jack lately? th-cam.com/video/rR9UQ0DbLlo/w-d-xo.html

      @@PeteJohnsMusic No, haven't cleaned one before, honestly. I can imagine they're dust magnets, though. Thanks for the link to the tutorial. Meanwhile, yes, that's what I recall reading, i.e, that a HDD is not suitable for running iPad apps from. I "think" the 2TB Seagate is an SSD, but I'll have to check. Another consideration is that it's not made for the iPadOS, but rather, Windows. I don't "think" that should prevent its running an iPad app, but....
