"Chris Farlowe is probably the best male blues singer the UK has produced" - Van Morrison. In his 70's, still performing, and his voice is almost as good as ever.. Took "Out of Time" and made it his own with Jagger and Richards singing backing vocals. Anyone who's heard his version of "Handbags and Gladrags" (which Mike D'abo wrote with him in mind to record) would laugh at the phonics version.. His work with Atomic Rooster, and Robert Plant is just timeless.. Anything he sings, its impossible to imagine anyone else doing it justice.. True legend...
I listen to Elmore James ,Hound dog Taylor ,Frankie Lee Sims ,Johnny Winter ,George Thorogood among others ,he is not in their league . I'd rather listen to John Mayall or Tony Mcphee or Peter Green
The soulfulness in Chris' voice is incomparable. His vocals here, are just as strong, if not stronger, than the instruments. I've watched this 100's of times. 100's more to come.
I like that kind of "down to earth" personality of Chris Farlowe. He's kind of saying - im not a superstar celebrity, im an ordinary man, like you and you
I remember seeing this when I was 14. The sandwich eating was big news back then only to be obscured by the great and powerful Oz and his bat and dove antics. I loved this stuff. The grainy film, the handheld cameras, the realtime musicianship! This clip stuck in my mind for 40 years. Thanks for posting.
I asked Chris Farlow many years ago, why he was eating a sandwich during the filming, as I remember it he said the band were doing 2 gigs that day and he handnt had the chance to eat .
Now Holy Smokes is this frign just Awesome. The vocals are so great. The Keyboardist is playing Bass and Melodies masterfully and the Drummer OMG!! Don't forget the Guitar adding a wah effect to the background . Wow great sounding band.

Ah, the totally brilliant Colosseum Live album, a double at that, recorded at some of the dates of a UK tour they did in the spring of '71... One of my absolute favourite albums of all time, that. Farlowe sings fantastic on tracks like Rope Ladder to The Moon.... Highly recomended, if you haven't heard it allready.
Steve Bolton is using a Schaller Roto Sound rotating speaker simulator on this song. His playing is so awesome. Yes, the footage comes from 1972. Ric Parnell is playing the hell out of the drums on here. Vincent Crane, R.I.P., played the hell out of the electric piano and organ as well. Chris Farlowe almost sounds like Tom Jones on here. He has his own singing style.
Vincent Crane was an excellent keyboard player in my humble opinion it's a shame the guy suffered from bi-polar disorder for most of his life ultimately committing suicide back in 1989 at the age of 45.....
It takes a talented singer to be able to work a sandwich into the act without anyone resorting to the heimlich maneuver! Let's see ol' David "Fancy Pants" Coverdale try that! (rumor has it that he couldn't even swallow 3 sesame seeds without Tawny Kitaen jumping onstage for an atomic (no pun intended) suplex just to keep him from choking!) What an freakin' amatuer, Chris was definately the man! When it comes to multi-tasking while singing, he was always # 1!!!
