Just be sure to remove your brake fluid reservoir cap prior to compressing your caliper back. This will prevent any spill over from fluid being pushed back up and into the system when the piston is pushed back. Just my experience and something I do every time.
Great videos. Thanks for the thoroughness. One suggestion is where in the video, you use pliers to grab the guide pin hex head while removing the guide pin bolt. That hex head has a very thin flange around it that the pliers will damage. You need a 17mm open end wrench that’s less than 7mm thick to properly hold the hex head on the guide pin. I found a cheap wrench at the auto parts store that worked perfectly. The more expensive wrenches were much thicker. In this case, cheaper was better.
You guys are the best! I buy a ton of brake kits from your site, such great prices. I get a kick out of how he cleans the hub face then all of the sudden it's a new hub lol!
After watching this video and completing my front break job I would recommend anyone with basic tools do this own their own. Parts front autozone was $144 for two rotors and four break pads and liquid and Grease. Compared to Firestone quote of 500
I love the fact that he actually showed the way to turn the bolts in order to remove them, a very critical point when changing brakes. Some trucks/cars are lefty loosely and righty tighty” but on a lot of newer models it’s totally the opposite rediculous..” Cheers mate 😎
Love the new ratchet sound in the intro. I’ve been coming to 1A for parts and videos ever since the dealerships started giving it to me without the lube.
Had to hit my rotors a lot harder to get them loose, it was definitely hammer time!!!! 120,000 miles of corrosion keeping them in place then all of sudden one hit they pop loose. BAM!!!!
Excellent Video! Well documented and explaination. Have watched several of your great videos. Showing support for what you do. I am ordering my kit fron 1A Auto. BIG THANKS! ORDER IN!
should i open the reservoir cap when pushing the caliber? then close it , and replace other side and when time to press reopen reservoir then repeat for the rest of the truck?
1A Auto Parts thanks. I made the mistake of not replacing or resurfacing my front rotors and now I don’t think they make good contact with the new breaks.going to do that soon
+John H You should take out the pads to make sure they are seated properly and no rust is on the brackets and just keep it clean since you're already taking it apart.
Be safe, replace the rotors. I am changing my 2013 brakes the 1st time, 9 years of braking. I am not even asking, just logical to change them out if you can afford it.
You do not to change them every time you change pads. You do however need to be mindful of the condition of the rotors. As they become too thin, they are warped my heat. This can lead to noisy brakes, less braking power, and ride quality issues that may affect other parts of your car!
Have a question, how come when you compress the pistons in the caliper that you don’t go ahead and bleed out the old brake fluid that’s trapped in there instead of just making it go back up into the master cylinder? Also shouldn’t you bleed each tire after you do a brake job on it?
Well depends on how bad the brake fluid looks, if bad then flush, but if its fine then no need, and brakes dont have to be bled after a brake job because the was never a moment air could of gotten in, hope that helps
Don’t ever crack a brake line unless you absolutely have to, you’ll contaminate the brake fluid. No reason to bleed the brakes when simply changing pads and rotors.
+Bryan Opitz Thanks for checking us out! Sometimes you may be able to use a C-clamp if you do not have a compress available. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you!
It always is amazing when I see guys doing brake jobs on any video and they just "slip in the pads and they slide". Every time over many years I have done brakes, I have to grind the shit out of the new pads tabs and/or the slide channel for them to truly "slide" freely and screw around with the new hardware. (And yes i wire wheel the rust and clean the caliper bracket) The videos always skip this part and I know in many cases you have to do this. Mechanic I know says he has to do it a fair amount of the time. I am just doing my 15 Dodge Ram now and the rattle clips don't even fit the damn bracket channel, and no, they are not cheapo replacement brake pads
+James Fisher Thank you for checking us out! While we cannot give a diagnosis, I would suggest checking to make sure the caliper is not stuck or there is air in the brake line. It would also be a good idea to double check the right pads and rotors were installed. A mechanic will be able to take a look at everything causing this issue and let you know what it is and how to get it fixed
You reused the rusty, heat cycled old clips? Really? Wow. And putting the clean pin down in the rust and then smearing grease on it…perfect. You think you got the old dirty grease out of bracket bores? Sloppy job.
It's amazing how much differently we have to perform a brake service in the Salt Belt... The "Down South" version will lock up your brakes in a matter of months, up here...

What kind of magic was that at 8:20 .. that wheel hub turned brand new.
I need to see the full clip of the brake hub being cleaned that was impressive

Love the video... this is going to be the first time I do a brake job on my truck by myself and this step by step video was very helpful!
did it work?

HELL YEAH! And firestone is always high
Dodge oem parts center wanted to charge $1700.00 for these parts. I bought them online for $300. !
I love the fact that he actually showed the way to turn the bolts in order to remove them, a very critical point when changing brakes. Some trucks/cars are lefty loosely and righty tighty” but on a lot of newer models it’s totally the opposite rediculous..” Cheers mate 😎

This is the only channel I refer to when trying a job for the first time. Very knowledgeable and thorough Thank you 1A auto!
Great video. You have a great on camera presence for these kind of videos. Quiet, even delivery with all the info you need and no extra bs. Great job.
great video i would recommend replace all hardware/clips
Man you got that hub REALLY clean lol
I have a 2013 Ram 1500. A 1/2 inch wrench or socket fit the bolts holding the caliper on better than a 13mm.
Yeah probably 1/2" is 12.7mm so it'll be a little tighter
All of yalls videos are thorough. Thank you.
8:20 transition went from rust to brand new nice brush .
Man you are good! I wish I had your skills. I think I cand do that myself if I watch this video while I do it. Thank you.
Man you really cleaned that hub up to brand new. 8:14 mark.
Thanks for what you do for others Guys, your time is appreciated.... Joe Sweat Taylorsville ky.
If you compress the pistons when you first take it off, you don’t wind up using the new clean rotor as a work surface for the rusty dirty caliper
Had to hit my rotors a lot harder to get them loose, it was definitely hammer time!!!! 120,000 miles of corrosion keeping them in place then all of sudden one hit they pop loose. BAM!!!!
+Moparpoor Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I was going to change my brakes, but after watching this video, I just tapped my truck with a wire brush and voilà!...I had a brand new truck!
Thank you 1a auto! Keep videos like these coming! Love it!
+Jae B. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Great video BUT! You say around 13:15 to torque the 13mm bolt into the calliper slide to 31ft lbs. I broke two bolts going that tight on my 2016 ram.
Lol he replaces the entire wheel hub in the next clip after he’s cleaning it with a wire brush
noticed that as well, he's quite the magician. Managed to wire brush that hub to a polished finish
I was actually laughing out loud when I saw that!!!
I was confused too then I saw your comment lmao
Hey cause I was about to ask what type of fucking wire brush he was using to get that sumbitch that clean! I would've been working all day on mine!😂🤣😂
Hello my 2015 dodge ram 1500 had 86000km .I am going to do the brakes soon, should I change the rotors at the same time? Just because
Excellent Video! Well documented and explaination. Have watched several of your great videos. Showing support for what you do. I am ordering my kit fron 1A Auto. BIG THANKS! ORDER IN!
Absolutely 🙏 thank you for such a great information. GOD ALWAYS BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!!
should i open the reservoir cap when pushing the caliber? then close it , and replace other side and when time to press reopen reservoir then repeat for the rest of the truck?
Love you videos very helpful for the thread lock what color did you use red or blue
This really helped me out. Thanks a bunch.
Great how to video!
When setting the new pads in is it ok if they are tight against the rotor or do they have to have a space between pad and rotor
Can the caliper bracket come off without removing the pads? Need to replace warped rotors only...
should i remove my brake fluid reservoir cap?
A1 thanks for such great videos
well done video thanks 1A Auto
How would I remove a rotor and not the break pads? Do I still need to compress the breaks?
+John H Thanks for watching. The pads need to be removed, but not replaced when changing the rotors.
Do you need to do this for all 4 tires
I wish I had that lift in my driveway.
Do you have to change out the rotors when you change the pads? Is it necessary and why? Thanks!
I notice your back wheel spins freely by hand. Are you putting the truck in neutral while changing the brakes or something??
Is this tutorial for the Ram 1500 3.6L Tradesman?
Those inner pads tend to stick pretty good. Had to beat mine with a hammer and flathead
So nobody is going to talk about the chair that moved by itself in the background?...
Can a bent pad clip cause scratching noise while braking?
Thanks for sharing. NOT all of these trucks use a 22mm/7/8" socket, my brother's has aftermarket wheels & uses a 19mm, just fyi.
Will this work for a 2019 ram 1500? Thanks
Great video! many thanks
+JoeG2013 Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
When you press brake paddle did you open the Blake fluid reservoir cap? Thanks.
Thanks for the video
Very nice video brother…. Very helpful!!!!! 👍
Does this work for 2wd Ram 1500?
Do you have to use a torque wrench ?
Yes...

Do I got to bleed the brakes after doing this?
+@mistersavage6799 Yes, we would suggest bleeding the brakes.
Very helpful thank you
Thanks
Did you not remove the cap?
Fooling people like this😂😂😂😂cleaned hub til mirror shine with wirebrush
Yo that's what I said, i had to to double take. Dude went to work with that wire brush🤣😂🤣
haha I seen that too.
Isn't there an ABS sensor?
I went to torque mine to 31ft lbs and it snapped the head off
Dont you have to bleed break fluid after changing break pads? Or is it not necessary
Don’t ever crack a brake line unless you absolutely have to, you’ll contaminate the brake fluid. No reason to bleed the brakes when simply changing pads and rotors.
how can I compress the brake caliper without a caliper compress
+Bryan Opitz Thanks for checking us out! Sometimes you may be able to use a C-clamp if you do not have a compress available. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you!

SPRAY SOME AT205 REASEAL ON THOSE BOOTS!
This guy have a magic wire brush, part # 123HPORTTER 😂
He did 1 pull and pushed back both pistons.. so he had to use the brake pad as leverage
It always is amazing when I see guys doing brake jobs on any video and they just "slip in the pads and they slide". My 18 ram the pads seized in 25k . I knew I should have took the time to remove the pads and grind the ears. I like a little movement for for sure
My new brakes came with new clips and instructions say NEVER use old clips. HOW COME YOU DONT PROVIDE NEW CLIPS WITH PADS?
Anyone else notice at the 0:28 mark the office chair in the background swivel all by itself?
I did this almost exactly and now my brakes chatter.
Ya so he can change double labour
He totally put a new hub on like come on dude you didn't grind that that clean with a wire brush
😂😂😂 The magic hub
Shit I’m cheap, I don’t replace the rotors when they look as hood as the ones he took off.
130 ft pounds seems really high, that's crazy
Do you have to bed these in? Or can your just drive gently for the first 200 miles?
+Andrew P Thanks for watching! When replacing brakes you will want to follow a brake bedding process to ensure long life and good performance!
Every kit out of stock
So I did all of this and now my brake pads are constantly touching the rotors and heating up. Any idea why?
+James Fisher Thank you for checking us out! While we cannot give a diagnosis, I would suggest checking to make sure the caliper is not stuck or there is air in the brake line. My damn rotors are stuck I've tried everything this sucks
I sell brake caliper hangers too 59.99 a bent coat hanger😂
Yeah, resurface those rotors though there’s plenty of meat on that potato…$20/$25 per @ O’Reillys🇺🇸
Baahhh!!!!!
There is no way u had them at 130 ft lbs with that finger tight u definitely used a couple Ugga Duggas on the air gun beofre u filed that last torque
Did he replace the hub?
Lol.
