Your possibly unrealized inner message for each of your pieces
Seems to connect with me on a deeper level…
Something more meaningful and direct, while all the while … illuminating your own journey to the continuing life saving efforts of human trafficking…
Each artistic piece has its own journey as do each of the survivors themselves…

Dan, I truly enjoyed watching you create this work of art! My husband and I throughly enjoyed it! He is a woodworker/carver himself. I heard you mention a tool that he has used for carving gun stocks and sculptures designed by a dentist in Utah. He went out to their studio to learn from Craig Hone. That told me that you truly love woodworking. I appreciate your work and mission with the Underground Railroad. I myself have helped with fundraising for another organization that helps trafficked children! New subscriber for that alone, but your work is breathtaking too!

Hi 👋, Dan , Great, looking project piece of art, about two years ago, somebody that I used to know locally hadn’t been into one of their barns for a year or so, and found a very large hornets nest still very active , I’ve got somebody in to remove it or remove them so I say and I’ve actually been given a bit of the nest. I’ve got it packed away in a box , for a future project like yours , at the moment I cannot afford to buy resin , Epoxy resin is one of the best in Europe, very impressed with the boring system that you mentioned, I’ve been online and had a look at it, it looks like it’s very well made, would be too expensive to ship across to France because of the weight of it, and the size, but I think it’s something I could probably quite easily make, especially as I have got a bit of steel bar around 33/34ml thick, just need the tool to go in the end, I have made a elbow type boring tool, with a cranked end and carbide tipped, I can go in roughly 12” in depth safely, and are used the laser sighting device off a air rifle that I no longer use, it gives me guidance on the cutting thickness of the wall,
You are doing great work for your organisation, saving children from abuse, and I know what that is like, keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing you next project/art, Phil from the moulin

Regarding the size of the cells, maybe it was down to the initial purpose of the cells? That is, if it was brood comb or honeycomb, and if it was brood comb, whether it was larger drone cells versus those intended for the workers?
I must admit, I'm more familiar with wasps and hornets than bees. But I know that the size of their cells can vary dramatically based on the purpose, and I know that brood comb is often darker in colour because it sees more activity than honeycomb.
I adore the finished product. I've seen people cast paper-based wasp comb before, but this is the first time I've seen beeswax comb included, and I'm glad that the temperature of the curing resin was cool enough to not deform or outright melt the wax.

Thanks, John.

Great work Dan! Where did you get your huge pressure pot? I’m having difficulty finding one. What glue did you use to adhere the honeycomb before the pour? Thanks, Neil

@neilbosdet7883 thank you very much! Here you go: Pressure Pot: (amzn.to/3JjD7mo) 10 gallon for big projects, (amzn.to/3tfp1u2) 5 gallon for the average sized resin projects or (amzn.to/3pwX0M8) for the smaller average jobs 2.5 gallon, both need minor modifications to work.
      - Super Glue: (amzn.to/3pFg5vT) thin and runny, perfect for stabilizing bark or other unstable wood.

    Why do Bees Swarm?
Bees swarm for a couple of reasons, but the number one reason is that their living space is too crowded. Things are rocking along in the hive, and the queen is laying eggs, the workers are caring for the brood, honey is being made, and the honeycomb is being drawn out and filled. There is plenty of nectar and pollen for the bees. The weather is nice and sunny without being too hot. It’s like a bee paradise.
Then all of a sudden, some bees decide it’s too crowded and convince the queen to leave with them. Or maybe the queen decides it’s too crowded and summons the workers to go with her; we don’t really know whose idea it is to begin with. But the queen is a good ruler and would never just up and leave her subjects. So she makes sure they have plenty of brood - enough to replace all the bees she’s taking with her. Then she stops laying so she can slim down a bit before she flies off.
The workers who are going with her stop foraging and start eating. They pack all the honey they can into their little bodies in preparation for the flight. Scouts start looking for a new place to build a home.
This behavior starts to worry the bees who are staying behind, so the young workers who can produce wax start constructing queen cells towards the bottom of the frames. And when the first of the queen larva reaches pupating age, and her cell is capped, the old queen knows it’s time to leave.
So, she and about half the hive leave to find a new home - it might be an old tree or an abandoned building. Hopefully, someone will spot them and call a beekeeper who can put them in a box in his apiary or give them to a bee farming friend.
The bees that stay behind will (ideally) raise a new queen, and life will continue as normal. They are about three weeks behind in work, but they now have space to grow, and all is good. When do Bees Swarm?
Fortunately, it’s very uncommon for a hive to swarm in the first season. They just haven’t had time to set up a home and fill it all up to the point of needing extra space in just a few months. However, in subsequent years they will fill up their hive sooner, and swarming will be more likely.
A good rule of thumb is that when you notice that seven of the 10 frames are drawn out with wax, it’s time to add another. When the lower deep has seven frames full of wax, add another deep. When that second deep has seven frames full of wax, add a queen excluder and a honey super. When the super is 70% drawn out, add a second super. Keep adding a super each time 70% of the frames are drawn out with wax.
This means that in the spring and early summer when nectar is really flowing, you have a higher chance of the bees swarming. You’ll want to make sure to check on your hives every 10 days or so during the nectar flow and add boxes as needed.
When the nectar flow slows down, so will hive growth but don’t think you no longer have to check on them. You’ll want to make sure to continue adding boxes when the top box is 70% full of drawn-out wax. If a hive swarms late in the summer or early fall, it might not be able to recover before winter sets in. So be sure to give them the room they need when they need it.
Speaking of late summer, sometimes the hive isn’t crowded; it just feels that way to the bees because it’s hot and there isn’t enough ventilation. You can provide a little extra ventilation by gluing a short piece of a popsicle stick to each of the corners of the inner cover. If you live in a warm climate, you could just do this to all of your inner covers as part of your bee hive plans since you don’t have to worry about harsh winters.
Even if the hive has plenty of room, if the queen is several years old, there is the likelihood of the hive swarming. Because the workers will start raising a new queen when they think their queen is getting too old to lay eggs, many beekeepers will requeen their hives every year to help keep a hive from swarming. This works really well if it fits in with your beekeeping strategy.
One last thing, if you notice that the workers are making queen cells and think they might be preparing to swarm, you can remove all of the queen cells by cutting them out of or off the frame. The hive will not swarm if there is not a replacement queen in the works. But you have to be certain you get all of them. It only takes one queen larva to reach pupating age to let the old queen, who already wants to leave, know it’s time to go.
So, why do bees swarm? Because it’s nature’s way of making sure that bees divide and multiply so that they will survive. Of course, in nature, this is a wonderful thing, but in apiaries swarming can lead to weak hives and less honey.

My friend, I implore of you, please invest the $100 to get a proper mic. This is a stunning project - not only as an exercise in making, but as a piece of art that deserves home in a gallery - but the muddy audio nearly made me click off. It's all wonderfully shot and the editing is nice; visually you're right where you need to be. But think about it: you'll sit through reduced quality video, but as soon as the audio gets bad, you'll either pause or outright turn it off.
You owe it to your skills as an artisan to present your work as well as it deserves to be. I hope you'll take my subscription as a show of good faith of the positive intent of this criticism.
