Thank you for making this video. I picked up a 7x12x2 16k bumper pull a couple of weeks ago and the hoist has the same grade 5 bolts you mentioned.

I guess it wasn't just mine then. They are gonna have to do better than that. That's a major safety concern. If those were to break when dumping 5 or 6 tons bad things are gonna happen. Would probably total the trailer out when it falls real fast.
I like Texas pride and still think we get a lot of trailer for the price but they need to recall all units with those grade 5 bolts & have them changed. I bet the engineer has no idea they are using those..

How much is the cost for the new sylinder

I thought these had 2x6 frames out of 3/16" from what I read online, maybe the 14k version has smaller tube.. I am still debating if to get one so going through videos to get a better idea of build quality.

Yeah the 14K has less durable frame for sure

The tensile strength of the grade 5 bolts is still 37,200#. That’s more than that hydraulic system will ever think about dumping. In addition, grade 8 bolts are not necessarily “stronger” than grade 5. They are harder. Which is very different. A grade 8 bolt will shear much faster when it’s bent/twisted/torqued in any way. A grade 5, although less hard, is able to withstand a lot more stress over time because it can deflect under load and return to its original shape.
So all that to say…a grade 8 is not always just a “better” bolt or even a “stronger” bolt. There is a time and place for each

Ive seen some evidence of softer being better before on a shear pin situation . Such as on my 260 60,000 pound excavator.. the almost 3 inch pins in the bucket and where the cylinders attach have lock bolts in them, they have lock nuts on them but are not made up tight. shouldnt really have rotational torque on them but they do at times. , Ive had grade 5- 5/8 bolts bend and eventually break and fall out but have one pin with a bent over peace of rebar which bends really easy compared to even the grade 5 bolts.. the rebar has stayed put. Sometimes softer is better. But where these are on the trailer they cant really ever bend if the trunnion mount plate is sandwiched tight enough. So I prefer grade 8.. can torque them tighter so the trunnion plates are sandwiched together much tighter.. a feller wouldnt use grade 5 as headbolts on a engine? They are sandwiching that head gasket . Same as these on the lift trunnion cap plates

why did you not order like that ? and what and why that steep ? All being said . good video. and helpfull

Well I tried to order it like this. The salesman wasnt very well informed on exactly whats available.. I asked for the longest cylinder possible and he told me they only have one cylinder. A few days after I got home with it, I talked to that feller in shop down there and found out different.. so ordered the cylinder .. always need as steep as possible on dumps . These clay soils tend to stick bad . Thank you for your comment. Ill be adding more updates soon. Putting a 1/2 thick dumpbed liner in soon to protect it and make it slicker so stuff slides out easier .

With the 8ft gooseneck, you mentioned that your flatned is 11' long, do you think a 12' flatbed would still have clearance in the rear when turning?

With the 8 ft neck.. 12 ft bed no problem. Ive got a lot of room past the 11ft bed. I can turn 45 and still walk under the neck behind the truck. Be sure tell them you want 10 inch neck & upright at least. The 8 inch is just not enough
