So the basics of the context: This is a musical based around the American Revolutionary War, focusing on the Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. He was an immigrant from the Caribbean who moved to New York when he was 17-18, served in the Revolutionary War, was George Washington's secratary, then led troops in the Battle of Yorktown (aka the final battle of the war). Eventually Washington hired him to become the Treasury Secratary (basically in charge of the country's money) because he knew that he could trust him. The musical focuses on Hamilton's life, moving to New York, joining the war effort, meeting his wife, and eventually leading troops into battle. Then Act Two is about him as the Treasurer, getting into political battles, starting a family, going through pitfalls of character and eventually- (well, that's a spoiler isn't it?) Edit: Here's the lowdown on each character: Hamilton, obviously, is the main character. He is often shown to be arrogant and cocky, but he has enough talent to justify it. He is also obsessed with legacy, wanting to create one of his own to leave behind, as he had none before this. Aaron Burr is Hamilton's friend, though they have very fundamental differences. Hamilton believes in making your stance clear, while Burr takes a "Wait for it" approach. Burr and Hamilton do have respect for each other, but these differences create a divide between them. Angelica is the woman who was going off to London. She is Hamilton's sister-in-law, the sister of his wife. Though in the musical they had a connection prior to him meeting his wife, their relationship was never more than familial. Eliza is Hamilton's actual wife, who just wants him to be there for his family, while Hamilton is obsessed with creating the country and creating a legacy. Washington is the man who hired Hamilton at the end. By this point he has been elected as the first president of the United States. He knows Hamilton well due to their time serving together in the war and wants to hire him to a high government position because of that. John Laurens, Lafeyette, and Hercules Mulligan are all soldier friends of Hamilton who were not in the songs you listened to. They appear in different ways, and are only in Act One-in Act Two the actors playing those roles take on others. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison are other Founding Fathers who Hamilton fights with politically in Act Two. They are played by the same actors as Lafeyette and Mulligan (respectively). Phillip is the name of two characters-Hamilton's father-in-law, the father of his wife, and his eventual son who he names after him. Hamilton's son Phillip is played by the same actor as John Laurens. Maria Reynolds is a woman who is involved with the story in a way I won't specify, but she is played by the same actress as Peggy.
Hamilton is something that should definitely be reacted to in order. It would make for some even better reactions that way. There is A LOT of info missed here. Enjoyed the reaction though. The musical is almost completely sung through so if you react to the songs in order it will cover the entire musical. Hamilfans will follow your reactions that way for sure. (We can also help with grouping suggestions. Certain numbers should be reacted to together).
I absolutely agree about watching the musical - with subtitles! It helps you catch the genius of LMM’s lyricism and not get too distracted trying to parse out the lyrics/story. Found you for the Hamilton and was so pleasantly surprised to see you also reacted Six! You gained a new sub! Love your genuine and enthusiastic reactions! Despite starting in the middle (lol), you seem insightful and get the general feelings intended 😊
If you like these, you're gonna absolutely adore "Guns and Ships" and the opening number "Alexander Hamilton" ... I'd watch the opening song first, which introduces everyone but doesn't give too much away, but it's your show. Guns & Ships won some massive awards, and is known for being the fastest rap song in Broadway history.. it's usually the most popular song in the show. If you go deeper into it, watch "Helpless" and "Satisfied" back-to-back as they go together, and don't have the same impact when seen separate/solo. This show puts together some absolute bangers. If you decide to do the whole show (on Disney+) maybe do it in song order, but jumping around is great, too, as you can pull each piece apart and analyze/appreciate individually.
Dude, I saw this video and immediately watched it because, well Hamilton reaction, then I clicked on your channel. HOW DID YOU START SO RECENTLY? Your videos are so well done, the sound, the editing, the look, amazing job!!!
I'm glad you liked Non Stop, but it's probably the worst song to start with. It concludes Act 1 of the play and there are so many things going on in it that would be impossible to follow if you haven't seen the play. It also has motifs from many other songs in the play that you wouldn't recognize unless you've heard those songs first. This is a great song, but it would not be the first song I recommended to a Hamilton newbie.
If the play is on stage in a city near you, and ticket prices are reasonable, it is very exciting to see it live. The audience creates so much love and energy, and the dance choreography is stunning! The set designs & costumes are unique and powerful. The Broadway actors in the production filmed for Disney are usually not performing it anymore, but local productions are often almost as fantastic as the original Broadway cast. “According to a 2020 report, more than 2.6 million people have seen Hamilton on Broadway and another 7.8 million at theatres across the country, which doesn't account for everyone who watches the Disney+ streaming version, which earned “Hamilton” an Emmy Award.”
Non-Stop is a great introduction to Hamilton! You get a little bit of almost everything from the first half so if you like it, you'll like just about all of Hamilton. Others have already given you the background, so you can do any order (like I did when I gave in to the hype) but I think you'll definitely want to watch the whole thing!
So to go as spoiler free as possible, (I'll try to skip spaces so you dont HAVE to read the full comment if you dont want too much context and can go in fully blind!) The first song is the beginning of act 2 and is essentially the beginning of the US being free from Britain and how hard Hamilton is working to leave his legacy. The second song is Bur explaining his motives in how he approaches things and how different he and Hamilton are. Last one is baddie hours but since this is the 1700s all women COULD really do in that pov is find a husband to raise the social statuses of their families. This musical is almost ALL music so even though it's a bitch for copyright the entire production is on Disney so even if you only do animatics on this channel I'd 100% watch that on your own time!
I'll be honest, the musical is fantastic but it is, as the song says.. .Non Stop. The entire thing is music after music after music, and it is very lyrically verbose. Which is great, but watching the movie musical for the first time can be really overwhelming and difficult to react to. Not that you shouldn't, but I might recommend listening to the music beforehand just so you're somewhat familiar with the lyrics, because even though I had listened to the entire album for months before seeing it, it was still a lot for me!! And DEF needs to be watched with subtitles IMO. Anyway, Hamilton is great! Lin Manuel-Miranda is a musical genius IMO as well, I love everything he has worked on.
Great video ! "Hamilton, An American Musical" is about Alexander Hamilton, a founding father of the USA. Actually, Hamilton is one of the inspiration for Epic, and LMM and Jorge have other common points). The first song you react "Non stop" is the last song of the Act 1, so that normal if you don't understand ! Eliza is Hamilton's wife, Angelica is the sister of Eliza. I'm really excited to see the reaction to the whole Musical ! The pro-shot is on Disney +, but you can watch all the animatics on TH-cam. Also, someone in TH-cam has recreated the whole musical on Animal Crossing, which is totally crazy and really well made : th-cam.com/video/BsfZ8eNuHSg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ao3OKp6fobnR07LJ
I'm telling you, even if you don't get the 600 likes, at least watch the musical if not react to it. Do it cause it's amazing and if you love the 3 animatics, you will FREAK at the musical.
13:24 idk how you got "a rich dude" from "a mind at work" that actually implies a _smart_ dude but ok. Also why do you keep assuming the worst from the girls 💀
Also the way you pronounced the name of the sisters is how Germans would pronounce it! The name has become americanised to “skylar” but I promise that’s not how native Germans would say it 😂 - so you’re right! It works for this though. A lot of foreign names get americanised or anglicised over time.
Elizabeth/Eliza Schuyler, the lady with straight long hair, is Alexander Hamilton's wife. The woman with curly hair who is first seen with Alexander is Eliza's sister, Angelica Schuyler, who also has feelings for him.
American history. The first one you watched was the finale of the first act so it had a lot of pieces of previous songs tied into it. You should watch the movie or the animes in order
Okay, so, the two girls are Angelica and Eliza, they are sisters, Eliza is his wife, Angelica is his sister in law, also Angelica was not a gold digger lol she was the eldest daughter of a wealthy family and since she was the oldest she had to marry the rich.
I mean I’m not saying you should react to the whole thing but i would watch so as the most important person in this comment section I’d say it’s pretty compelling

Not calling Angelica a gold digger like this isn't set in the 1700s and women can even barely leave the house unchaperoned. 😭
And if anything, Alexander's the golddigger. The Schuylers are rich.

a bad song?! This is one of the most widely-beloved songs in the show
I think he meant it like “a villain song”. Kinda like “the song sounds so good for it to be sung by a bad guy”
