Chams are interesting since they like a lot of UV for the first half of the day, then they go to shaded areas away from it.

Thank you for taking the time to do this, it does take a while to sort out your knowledge in a presentable way. This answers a lot of my questions, too! I found the same thing testing my T8, I can't believe Murray has been as healthy as he is with just that light so far, I totally got lucky with that. And I'm glad to hear that about the CFLs. I was in a group on FB called "reptile lighting" and the admins were the herpatologists who helped develop and improve all of those bulbs. Fascinating stuff! And now, thankfully, I think amazon has it where you can buy a Solarmeter and make payments on it. I wish those were required when people bought reptiles. 37.7K subscribers, OMG!!!! :D

This is a nice video 👍 I've been researching into everything I'll need for a Blue Tegu as I'm looking into getting one after this coming winter. Trying to get all the equipment bought and looking into a few enclosures as it grows, not sure if I'll custom build any myself so I'm looking into websites that may do it for me.
My one question for you is this and bear in mind money won't be an issue for me, when it comes to an enclosure size for the Tegu once it's fully grown, can to big of an enclosure be a thing? I see recommendations on sizes but I feel like bigger would just be better so it can have more space to itself. Plus it'll have an entire room all to itself since I don't have any other animal but a cat (and I'll keep the two separate from each other as well, they'll never be in the same room cause I feel my cat will actually attack 😬). I just don't want it to be cramped up when I can give it a lot of space.

    • @Animal1Guy
      @Animal1Guy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Space is always a good question, and to me it comes down to what does the animal actually do. You always want to make sure its big enough that the hot side can be hot and the colder sider colder, plus a water dish it can fully lay in. But other that that My tegu buries himself under ground, lays in his water, and lays on his basking spot. so that 6-8ft wide either by 2 or 3 works fine. I also let him out to walk since he is potty trained.

I heard you mention about watching SD videos and I just wanted to throw out there that they just did a video about a month ago where they mentioned upgrading their heat lamps (it was the Timor monitor tank upgrade). I just wanted to throw this out because I wasn’t sure if you’d tried it but halogen lamps come in 25 and 50 watts for heating and they creating a basking spot in their tank of 137F as a test. But it comes with stands to both project the heat over a larger area or to cool down the area it’s put in. Again I don’t know if you’ve tried them I just wanted to throw it out there

Greetings. I have been watching your video's in silence lately. I see how much effort you put in caring for the animals.
I noticed the struggle with 'forcefeeding' small reptiles. I may have a good tip for you. It is called a Finger Feeder. It is a small, flex, silicone tip you can put on a syringe. It is actually used for premature human babies. It may sound as if it would be way to big for any animal, but believe me. I have used them to handfeed baby mice (pinkies).
I know they are manufactured by Medela, but I live in the Netherlands and have no idea if you can order them somehow in the USA.
I'm more than willing to help you further if needed, just ask.

Sorry to post on an age old video but is the theory with the t5hos not that they cover the whole tank in mild UVB so they get it everywhere but hides, and the coil bulbs are made for having high UVB only at the basking spot? I really thought both models worked if you use the correct lighting arrangement and use a long enough HO light.
I remember reading a study once that despite them getting less uvb it almost always evens out as to how much they’re actually getting total due to the t5s covering around 2/3 of the tank if not more as opposed to a 10 inch basking area?

Hi, I actually had a question because I am new and im trying to research and learn as much as possible before I actually get my reptile(bearded dragon). So i just want some clarification. For an adult bearded dragon what sized tank would be required. Ive heard anywhere from 40-120 gallons.
Im not asking this to be cheap but it is much easier and accessible for me to get a 40 gallon tank rather than a 120 gallon tank. Also the size of the tank compared to the space available for the tank.
What would you recommend based on your experience?
    Thank you

    • @Animal1Guy

the smallest that fits them still is 3ftx2ftx2ft, you can go anywhere you want from there, but if you go taller then you would make elevated platforms.4ftx2ftx2ft is nice

Some X-rays would definitely reveal some nasty issues. I hope it gets healthier soon
