To prevent accidental draining of the Mackie's battery during transport: remove it after charging and place it back when setting up your gear. :)

Info I would like to know:
Battery time - EXM 5.5 hrs Thump 12 hrs
    Speaker configuration
Does the EXM have a Bluetooth app I can control from the bar?
Does the EXM come with a bag as I think the Thump does.
    Great video, thank you!!!

    • @DjNinesworld
      @DjNinesworld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey buds thanks for watching the video! The batteries are very comparable i think the exm battery would last longer than 5.5 hrs if it was only at a low volume and the thump approximately 12 hrs at moderate low volumes too. The EXM does not have an app to control it with. It would've been nice to have one but honestly you can control it all on the back of the speaker. The EXM does not have an actual dedicated bag. I actually use the same backpack as i use the jbl eon one compact for it because they are identical in size. Let me know if there is anything else you would like answered. Happy thanksgiving!

As to the Yorkville EXM Mobile 8, on Amazon there are just two reviews, one complaining of a lack of a case/box, and the other saying it is a bad speaker and the customer service is bad. As to the Thump, the reviewers on Amazon said that the Thump is bass-heavy. I would hate speakers that push the bass at the expense of high fidelity.
Also, Please: you play music on these speakers and note the decibel volume, but we can NOT JUDGE the quality/fidelity of the sound; we have to trust you to tell us you opinion on that! Also, VERY IMPORTANT IS THE power of the Microphone Preamps. Two weeks ago I traded in my 4 year old S1Pro for an EV Everse8. Wow, what a difference! Whereas the S1Pro Mic preamps are so weak, that I have used a mixer to get decent volume and clarity. Whereas with the Everse8, I have temporarily retired the mixer! It is a Yamaha AG06 Mk2 by the way. All the adjustments I can make to the EQ and Reverbs on that Yamaha, I can now do on the EV Everse8. Using my cellphone or tablet whereas I need my laptop for the Yamaha. When I first got the Everse8 the sound quality was not really high fidelity, but I quickly learned that I had to adjust the EQ and then I got great HiFi sound. It's all in the EQ! Even my cellphone, a Galaxy S22+, has various EQ settings, and it is amazing the difference in the sound quality from genre to genre of music. If I play a pop song using "Classic" EQ, it sounds pretty bad!

As a persons that owned multiple bluetooth speakers over the years is that the battery wears down over time, starts to take forever to charge, dies fast, at high volumes just shuts off even with charge. Brand wise, Yorkville would be the no brainer to get, but the non removable battery is a HUGE CON on the Yorkville. We don’t even know if Yorkville has an option to replace the battery, if so what their cost is to replace it, considering they’re in Canada. we know that the mackie sells spare battery for about 70$usd

    • @DjNinesworld

I asked this question a couple days ago and the sales guy at long and McQuade said the could do battery replacements in house, didn't get an exact price but sounded like around the 200 dollar mark, he also said many of his rental fleets EXM mobiles [the smaller/older version] battery's are reaching 9-10 years with out being replaced. Also they have an extendable warranty that would cover the battery that seems almost reasonably priced. Having to ship it it would suck, they are heavy for there size.

    • @thisdj83

    • @shanethedj
      @shanethedj ปีที่แล้ว

@@a99117733 Get a performance warranty, then it should be covered. From what I know about Yorkville having bought maybe a half dozen different models, nx55p, nx750p, parasource, ps10p, the ps12p, nx720p subs, parasource ps12s sub, exm400's, and from what I notice, Yorkville doesn't change out their models all that often. All of these are still being sold new or updated versions with minor updates so they should support their battery powered speakers for years to come.

Very nice review. Guys I will get 2 Mackies n loop them, doing so you also get stereo and your overall sound will be boom boom boom with all you want. Paying less too for better sound. Go Mackie.
The front grill on Mackie does not look as good. Mackie should relocate the grill to the lower mid point and make it smaller. Also on the switch design a recessed boxed-in with flip cover, So to get to the switch you flip the cover then push the switch to NO/OFF. While on transit the switch is protected by the flip to it does not accidentally get bumped to ON thus run the battery to zero.

109dB of distortion has no purpose.
It was distorting terribly long before that so it was not that loud and we still dont know how loud can it play cleanly.
We have no information on that. 50% distortion has no value for playing music.
Measure it from a repeatable distance either one or two meters to follow the standards,
preferably outdoors or in a large room to minimize reflections
And use a quality decibel meter set to C or Z weighted,
not the "A" scale which subtracts up to 50 decibels of bass depending on the frequency and volume at the time.
"A" weighted decibal meters are the wrong tool for the job since the "A" scale is heavily weighed and has a huge amount of subtracted from the actual dB.
It was never intended for maximum levels of anything.
It was developed to study the minimum level people could hear at various frequencies since the ear is more sensitive to some of the upper mid-range notes.
But its completely misused and misunderstood these days.
It's of little value to measure distortion mixed with audio on a low budget meter dB meter
especially if set on the A scale which subtracts all the bass out of the measurement.
Thanks for the pros and cons, that was useful.
For the next test do some reading on audio test procedures to actually produce a usable and valid result. For example pick up a UMIk 1 calibrated microphone for $70 and a free copy of REW (room EQ wizard) and then you can publish solid, valid test results.
That will show you the frequency response, delay, phase, distortion and everything else we need to know complete with output decibel charts and frequency response charts.

i always hated yorkville's sound and this model is no exception. this unit sounded thin, with no depth to the music. i don't even think a subwoofer can make it sound good. surprisingly, the "cheap" speaker, mackie, sounded much more natural. people who use / buy / like yorkville speakers don't care about quality sound

You always sacrifice some sound quality when the speaker gets loud. Both the Mackie and Yorkville are similar size and Power. So as a result, the Yorkville sacrificed quality to reach 8 decibels higher than the Mackie. Mackie sacrificed volume level to maintain quality. All depends which one is more important to you. Me personally I need a louder speaker. A little quality sacrifice is not a big deal. Also another thing to keep in mind is sometimes depending on the song, you may or may not get distortion at full volume. Even after clip, and if the production is amazing? It may not clip at all.

Yorkville sacrifices a little sound quality for loudness while Mackie sacrifices some loudness for sound quality.

Sometimes it depends on the song. I currently use the Yorkville on a regular basis and depending on the song and equalizer settings? It can be turned up full blast no clip and no distortion. The production of the song has to be really good though. Plus the Yorkville goes eight decibels higher than the Mackie. So it's a bit of a apples and oranges comparison in that sense
