Hi....as you are interested in african history you should know about the real history of Changuu island which unfortunatel is not fun. The first Sultan of Zanzibar, Majid bin Said, gave it to two Arabs who used it as a facility for taming rebellious slaves prior to shipping them abroad or selling them at the slave market in Zanzibar's Stone Town. After Zanzibar became British protectorate in 1890 the British First Minister, Lloyd Mathews, purchased the island from the Arabs with the intention of building a prison on behalf of the Zanzibari government. During that time the British authorities were concerned by the risk of disease epidemics affecting Stone Town, then East Africa's main port. The old prison was converted into the facility's hospital and in 1923 the island was officially renamed Quarantine Island. So even if everyone knows Prison Island....... it was never used as a prison. But anyway....the beautiful building right next to the pool used to be the hous of Lloyd Mathews and was built in about 1890....... This Island has a magical but also a very dark history....... btw, before you ask yourself, why a mzungu tells you that.... I used to be the Manager of this Island as it was still run as a hotel.

Are things expensive in Tz compared to Our Home land?
In Zanzibar things are more expensive because it is a tourist town. However in Dar, things are cheaper
Inategemea maana sisi tupo dar-es- salaam lakini tukihitaji vitu Kama accessories tunapata Zanzibar kwa bei rahisi tofauti na dar kwa sababu vitu vinavyo tokea nchi za arabun Wana prefer bandali ya Zanzibar Ila labda hotel na chakula ndio a bit expensive though wanaangaliia na accent yako wakikuona si mwenyeji wanakuchaji zaidi

Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar is like Mombasa or coastal line and Kenya hinterlands so historically is one people but in TZ because there was a sultan and he was overthrown and Tanzania was formed cz in reality most people residing in Zanzibar are the same people of Tanzania mainland but also Arabs are mixed all over the Tanzania meaning Mainland and Zanzibar so President is one but there is one one taking care of Zanzibar issues,but the head of state, commander in chief and President is the Samia Suluhu Hassan.
