Thank you Dr. Pitre for your amazing literary works..! I purchased four of your books and already finished two of them, 'The case for Jesus' and 'Jewish roots of Mary'.
Must tell you both were way beyond my wildest imaginations. I had always been pained by the way other denominations of Christianity viewed Mary, Mother of God. After reading your book, I am sure, even the staunchest protestants will think twice before coming out with their usual unfair criticisms against our beloved Mother of God.

    Joseph Maxwell from Glasgow, Scotland:
I love the simple truthful iteration of the learning of Dr Petrie, especially in his enlightenment of the book of Revelation.
I am constantly abused and criticised profusely (Attacked) for my belief in Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Saviour.
The grounding in Faith and Reason can be highlighted in historical terms especially in the myth; That religion is responsible for more wars and deaths in the world than anything else.
In our time, we have great anchors in Catholic Christianity and teaching in truth.
We have the great teachers of the Church, supplemented with the Catholic and Christian scholars of today.
Thank you for your declaration of Faith.
Gengus Kahn, Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler debunk that particular Religion myth.

The Church historian Eusebius from 4th century mentioned in his book Ecclesiastical History that Pantaneus visited India about AD 180 and there he found a Gospel of Matthew written in Hebrew language, left with the Christians there by St. Barthlomew. So, that suggests strongly that it was well known in the Christian world that Matthew was one of the Gospel writers.

    E. Warner Wallace of Cold-Case Christianity has also shown that the Gospels show natural testimonial elements (testable witnessing).

    • @russellmiles2861
      @russellmiles2861 ปีที่แล้ว

The Gospel of Mark bookends Jesus’ baptism and death with reflective declarations. At the baptism there is a voice from heaven: “You are my Son” and at the crucifixion a gentile centurion, says, “Truly this man was the Son of God”; the Spirit descends like a dove at baptism, and gives up the ghost at death, both have references to Elijah, and the heaven being torn asunder, and the Temple curtain is torn. Mark is written is three parts, with layered themes in each part to reinforce teaching. Mark seems to be a retelling of stories about Elisha, Moses, eg, Moses parts the sea and crosses; Jesus calms the sea and crosses. Mark also redacts Psalms, eg, Mark 15 34 “my god, why have you forsaken me” from Psalm 22 1 “my god, why have you forsaken me.” Matthew 2 references Three Wise men who bring gifts to Jesus of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These gifts foreshadow Christ’s life: gold=kingship, frankincense=worship and myrrh = death and mourning. This is typical of Mythism but curious as a historical account and witness statements

In Geometry, theorems can only be proven by application of things that are absolute and cannot be proven such as opposite angles are equal as well as corresponding angles are equal; and also again by application, because of their absolutes, circles, right angles and parallel lines can prove more theorems. In the same natural/geometric way we can see that Christ, the incarnate God, is parallel with God himself. We cannot simply account for the existence of God but by application we can understand that Christ is the proof for God just like theorems are proven by application of natural/geometric laws. When we consider that the following invisible qualities of God also apply to Christ we can conclude that there is a God: holiness, righteousness, goodness, love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, good morals, authority over creation, power over sicknesses and diseases, etc.. The gospel tells us that Jesus Christ is also the second Adam, the perfect man/Adam that the first Adam was before his fall. As progeny of the second Adam and of God himself we are/should be by nature and by right perfect also according to God's grace and justification. As we are/can be in the image of God too, therefore by application again, we can say with greater confidence that there is a loving, merciful and compassionate God in the heavens.

🙏✝️Thanks for this conversion story!! Welcome Mr Rivera!! I want to make one comment on one statement made by Mr Rivera that we need a non-sacramental service, so it's not shocking to Protestants.. Please discuss this critical detail that we have Adult Catechism, and that NEVER is there a Catholic mass without The Most Holy Eucharist, or there is no point to the mass! Mr Rivera should not speak in this way, which makes me concerned if he is lacking in faith in the Fullness of the Catholic faith. Our years of worrying about Protestant feelings, opinions are done--pews emptying. Please correct this, as a solid Catholic such as Dr Scott Hahn fell on his knees weeping with the most holy Sacrifice of the mass. I worry Mr Rivera's statement is not the way to not have the Holy Sacrifice of the mass for Protestants! . I believe you needed to intervene in the interview, so Mr Rivera understands. Now others have heard this error! I speak in Mercy and in defending the Catholic true mass. Our Catholic Church is on FIRE from dissent and heretical teachings. In the heart of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
    BLESSED EASTER TO ALL!

It seems to me that the argument in favour of anonymity of the Gospels is mostly based on a theoretical methodology (Form Criticism) of how oral traditions develop into written texts, as opposed to primary and contemporary secondary source evidence. It relies on the methodology being correct and so makes sense mostly within the parameters of that theory. But, what if the theory is flawed? Now, Form Criticism might have merits, however the fact is within academic history many different theoretical methodologies have come in and out of fashion. For example, during the mid 20th century Marxism analysis used to be common as was Structuralism, but now these are rarely seen. So, sometimes certain theories can hold sway for a long time, to the extent that their arguments can become accepted de rigueur, but may not be so unassailable in reality. If someone can come in with a sounder and fresher argument, that will move the current position of academia.

One Jewish friend of mine said: why didn't Jesus clearly say he was God? He said in the AT God presents himself openly and asks people to worship him, so why doesn't he do the same in Jesus? He said: why should it be an enigma to decipher in the NT, a kind of Chinese mind game? What answer to that?

I haven't watched the video yet but I've started reading The Case for Jesus and am a bit disappointed. What I don't understand is why nobody considers the possibility that Jesus talk about being Son of God could be in a manner of an enlightened wisdom teacher, not claiming to BE God but claiming to be one with God, using symbols and language of a 1st century Jew. His "resurrection" could be a kind of emanation body (known in Buddhist and Hindu traditions), but his disciples misunderstood it.

If Jesus come not to change the law of Moses but to fulfill it as the Jews Messiah, obviously He didn't start a new religion but natural continuation of Judaism under the new covenant. His first followers are all Jews and they continued this new covenant Judaism as messianic Jews in their respective synagogues of Jerusalem, Damascus,Antioch, Rome, Corinth, Carthage etc. with the basic traditions like tabernacle, alter, menohra, priesthood, etc. intact which can be found only in catholic Church. Therefore catholic Church must be the one which Jesus established under the stewardship of Peter.

Who is Jesus Christ? It is normally accepted that God knows the WHOLE future and is here interacting with us. You should distinguish between "possible futures" (that God could maybe modify) and "THE ONE actual future" (including the modifications by God) that will ACTUALLY take place. Thus, God is supposed to perfectly know that One future which will ACTUALLY come true. Once again, that actual future is ALREADY AMENDED in accordance with the God's wishes. But this implies a SEPARATION of God from the world and mankind:
God would simply BOREDLY STARE at what happens in the world, doing NOTHING MORE than staring at that well-known film which simply regularly UNFOLDS. God had really NOTHING to do because even the God's voice would be ALREADY RECORDED on that film: his power standing ALONE would do exactly what needed. God would refrain to take his personal actions too, because they MUST EXACTLY be taken as in that film, no deviations are allowed! Since that actual future is "already amended", this implies there MUST have been a "first phase" BEFOREHAND in which God WAS FREE to make all his decisions, where God examined "possible futures", i.e. He did NOT know the WHOLE ACTUAL FUTURE above. Indeed (1) KNOWING the ACTUAL future and (2) being FREE TO DECIDE are things MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE, God can have either one, but not the two of them AT THE SAME TIME for logical reasons: if God "reserved the right" to decide to change the future whenever He likes (see (2)), this would mean He doesn't really know what will happen in the future and this is not serious. But that is not the case: when all his decisions are made - end of the first phase - God knows exactly the whole future, is happy with that and the matter is concluded FOR GOOD. God is almighty, He cannot afford mistakes, second thoughts or uncertainties for the future.
Since God is ONLY FREE TO DECIDE WHEN HE IS IN THE FIRST PHASE, this means that we have a relationship with Him when He is in that first phase! But this means we have a relationship with God WHO IS IN THE PAST, in a very distant past, the mankind was not born yet ("the world has not known you"). Thus, "No man has seen God at any time" doesn't happen because God is INVISIBLE, false ! That happens because GOD IS NOT AVAILABLE!! But from that past God is able to REACH OUT TO US here now, only with his words and actions. Since there's NO ONE HERE to speak those words, you can say that the God's presence here corresponds to the presence of a SPIRIT ("God is a spirit"): He is the SPIRIT OF GOD. From what set out above, the conclusion of the God's work in that remote past - i.e. the end of the first phase - would coincide with His SEPARATION from us, because the future known to Him would simply come true - with AUTOMATIC actions taken by his power where necessary - thus UNFOLDING without any further personal God's intervention. Instead of that no real separation occurs because - at the conclusion of his work - God gets rid of his power to become like a normal person, without any power: the Son of God. Thus, "Son" only means that Jesus DERIVES from God, He is no "normal Son" ! Therefore Jesus INHERITS the reign of God, EVERYTHING "The Father loves the Son and has given ALL THINGS into His hand.". Jesus - who is a man now - is DIFFERENT from the Father since He has now no power at all “ I from myself am not able to do a thing”. This is why He sits next to the POWER of God: He hasn't got any! However, He is NOT DISTINCT from the Father either, since He DERIVES from Him "He who has seen me has seen the Father.". Thus, for Father + Son taken together you cannot use the pronoun "He", you cannot use the pronoun "They" either. You can say that God is more than One and less than Two in number.

Sounds like you haven't read any Roman documents that are not religious that talk about a crucified man named Jesus.
Sounds like you haven't read any Roman documents that talk about christians being an issue.
Christianity is well documented to be going in since 1st century, well within time of someone who actually witnessed Christ. It's documented that the Bible was put together around 350-400 ad. Thus the Roman Catholic Church was born along with the Bible, the Latin Vulgate.
The books in the Bible were written in 1st century and has Jewish scriptures like the Torah.
Rome creating Jesus dies not hold up. Rome having christianity the official religion to control the people, is a better argument. Paul being created by Rome, is a better argument.
I used to be an atheist. Richard Carrier's book why invent the Jesus, is a good read. But he omits things. As an atheist, I found that shady. Why omit documents that disprove your views? Christopher Hitchens was this way too.
In my own search to disprove Jesus, I found he existed. Now the miracles the gospels says he did, that's debateable. But a Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified, is an historical fact. So I set out to find that he was a fraud. My angle was that he had his people pretty be to be ill, he set them in towns so when he went to that town, he had these miracles done. But they were all in on it. Then the stories grew and people exaggerated them to him raising the dead and everything in between.
      I'm now Roman Catholic.
Set out to discredit the man, only to worship Him. Go figure

I just don't understand why people fail to research how did Rome go from believing in paganism to christianity?
If they do not mention the Roman emperor, Constantine and his conversion, they obviously haven't done their research well enough. And that is definitely well documented by the Roman empire, not by christians and christianity.
Because if they look into Constantine and his conversion, they will find that he had a group of priests put together a book, using what the people, who were practicing christianity, were using.
This happened in the time of Constantine, 350 to 400, somewhere around there. If Rome created christian, then how is it that we have documents from early church fathers, written as early as 60ad to 300ad, well before the reign of Constantine.
That makes no sense, it does not fit the narrative saying Rome invented Jesus. I would say Rome made Jesus popular and made christianity the most popular religion in the world.
Robert Price, Mark Carrier, Bert erhman are good research on the invention of Jesus.
Notice I give examples for the invention of Jesus.....why? Because then you'll have better questions and better statements based off of actual historical scholars. Then you can research counterpoints to those better questions and statements.
Do research on both sides, not just one side.
Why do I suggest to start with biased research, in favor of the invention of Jesus?
Because you'll tend to naturally have developed that same bias. So when you research the other side, you're armed with the knowledge of skepticism. And all I ask is to be honest when you come across the facts. As you did when you found out facts from the atheists scholars.
You'll find things they omit, twist the meanings of and change their own criteria just to suit their views.
Also I suggest to start there because you can't say I'm being biased. I'm wanting people to start there because that's where I went. As an atheist, I stood by a criteria.....follow the evidence, not my opinions. And now I'm a christian by using that. criteria. Then I ended up Roman Catholic due to the same criteria. Go figure. I'm not advocating for catholicism. I would say go to other denominations. Why? For the exact same reasons I'm saying to start with the atheist approach. You just have to be honest when you find the facts and leave your personal feelings and opinions out.
I like discussing religion to anyone, I do this alot. I'm honest and will even help one make a better argument against me. Why? Because I've been there. After a while, you'll find that every discussion being argued between believers and atheists has been discussed. You'll find that every argument between christians has been done.
Read about the early church fathers. You'll find what they practiced, what they taught, what they were in debate about.
It's all been discussed before, there is nothing new under the sun.
People still debating these things just shows the ignorance of history, people have.

I've seen your comments and it seems to me you are not that familiar with my of the research you mentioned, but you were told about it by someone else. That's ok, but don't pretend to know what you are talking about.
There are so many innacuracies and I don't know where to start.
Bart Ehrman is not a Christian, he is agnostic. And seeing you like him so much, he also believes Jesus died on the cross. So who's lying: Bart or the Quran? (I'm assuming you are Muslim, correct me if I'm wrong) You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Brant Pitre is familiar with the work of Bart Ehrman which he references and debunks in his book the case for Jesus. In a debate between Ehrman and Michael Bird (I think it's M. Bird, I'm not sure right now) Pitre asked a question to Ehrman about the deity of Christ in the synoptic Gospels a d Ehrman who is famous of his view that Jesus does not claim divinity before the Gospel of John de facto admitted that Jesus does claim divinity.
Even when it comes to Christian scholars, there are also o called "liberal Christians" which in my view were not Christians at all, but they identify as such. It's like having a Muslim that thinks the Quran has errors and contradictions; it wouldn't seem like a true Muslim. That's why you have people like John Dominic Crossan who are liberal and not orthodox/conservative, but claim to be Christian.
Whether we include liberal Christians or not, we can still talk about Christian scholars, they can debate and be wrong or not. When a Christian scholar say that the Gospels are annonymous, first you need to know what he means by that and not insert you are preconcieved notion and just because he holds this view he can still be wrong about it.
Paul got the authority to preach the Gospel by God Himself.
What you ignorantly claim that Paul abolished the Law is false.
Read the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus said He came not to abolish the Law, but to fullfill it. In the next two chapters Jesus describes how the Law is fullfilled. Then compare the words of Jesus with the words of Paul and you will find out that they are perfectly consistent. Paul was more of a theologian so he went into more debth, but they hold the same view. Another thing you were lied to.
At last I will mention Bart Ehrman again. He talks on and on how the biblical manuscripts are different with variants, but when you look at his examples it is clear that the Bible is not lost and he even says something similar.
For example, he mentions how one scribe misspelled a word or wrote the same line twice. Typical scribal errors and we can confidently know what the Bible actually said.
When it comes to Bart Ehrman he rarely lies, but distorts the truth (which is more dangerous) to sell more books to gullible people.

If this is Peter's account so the gospel can be retitled the gospel of Peter. Why get fixated.by who wrote it? Its the content that matters and its relationship to our faith

So now when you read the Bible nobody tells you which words are altered? Correct, isn't it? Your Holy Ghost doesn't whisper the truth in your ears!
Dr Ehrman informs you that there are 55000 manuscripts with CHRISTIANS but no two manuscripts are matching! Why I am telling you this is because the masses are fooled by the Church, both, Orthodox & Protestants, that the Bible is the word of God & in support claim these manuscripts as proof. And the poor CHRISTIANDOM does not doubt it.
If you are calling yourself to be CHRISTIAN, then why don't you follow his teachings?
Actually Jesus was the Christ & not Paul. So why follow Paul?
Paul has abolished all teachings of Jesus Christ pbuh & still you call yourself CHRISTIANS, isn't it illogical?
Some of the misgivings of Paul I have listed above.
Paul has changed the trends of GOD ALMIGHTY'S RELIGION FROM ADAM (PUBH) TO MOHAMMAD (PUBH).
Do you think that Paul can be right? Can he be greater than GOD ALMIGHTY? (NAUZUBILLAH)
Dr Ehrman's research is verifiable by you yourself, don't discredit his efforts without showing any incorrectness in his works
My dear friend, my final example about Bible.
The Bible has many types of INCEST. Do you know what is INCEST? It is the sexual intercourse between close blood relation, like brother and sister, father and daughter or daughter in law, mother and son or son in law etc etc. So when your children or even grown up CHRISTIANS do abominable INCEST, they can excuse themselves saying it is mentioned in the Bible.
Will GOD ALMIGHTY, THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE put & vividly describe, in HIS BOOK OF GUIDANCE (Bible) such abominable ACTS?
Do you want to call Bible as fully words of GOD ALMIGHTY?
      THINK MAN THINK!

    Hello
    Jesus is the Messiah
    The Son of God
    The Son of David
    The Son of man
The man God has chosen to be his anointed king
The man God will judge the world through
The man God raised from the dead
    Jesus has a God
There is no triune god in scripture
Jesus said the Father is the only true God!
    John 17
3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
    -
    Acts 3
13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.
14 But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,
15 and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

Obviously none of those say “Jesus is fully God”
Nor do they argue Jesus is God Almighty

@@mitchellc4 So is He half God ? When the scriptures calls Him (Jesus Christ) God over all, that He is one with God, He was called 'Lord' and 'God' and was worshipped by men, all the Angels and all of Creation worshipped Him, He was said to be the Creator and Sustainer of all things, He was also referred to as the Great God and Saviour, even He was said to be the Almighty in Rev 1 : 8, He even accord the very name of God Almighty to Himself, showing that He is God himself, He was said to be Eternal, unchanging, omnipresent, omniscience and even omnipotent. He is the Mighty God and Eternal Father according to the scriptures, He was said to be YHWH (Yahweh) whose way was said to be prepared, even God the Father Himself refers to Jesus Christ as God and also Lord and ascribe the works of Creation to Him, in fact the scripture categorical stated that All the fullness of the Godhead (Almighty God) was in Christ, etc.. There are so numerous scriptures where the Deity of Christ Jesus were fully affirmed, yet you do not believe. Even for you to be saved you must affirm to the Deity of Christ Jesus, because you must confess the 'Lordship' of Christ Jesus for you to be saved. Affirming and confessing the Lordship of Jesus Christ is declaring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Christ Jesus over your life and existence. Who has the Supremacy and Sovereignty over your life if not God Almighty, this shows that Christ Jesus is God. And this is a Central Christian believe,
It is so unfortunate that you decided to turn a blind eye on what the scriptures teaches.. Christ came down in form of a man, so not surprise that He exhibited these human characters, it is based on His human nature, though He is fully God... He was fully God and fully Man...
