That little clip on the pump drive shaft is supposed to be there.
I don't know why. But there is usually a clip hanging around the middle of the shaft.
Maybe it is meant to clean the shaft?
Like you had on the bicycle hubs in the old days.

Yeah I checked it out and can find it in the parts but not really sure why.

Am working on the 4.236 4 cylinder perking engine. We change head and rotor on the pump. On the test bench the pump is spraying well. On start speak, idle speak and high revs. But it's not having enough presume when fitted to the engine. The engine only starts after spraying quick start even when it's warm.i have tried to advance it but to no avail. What could be wrong? Please help.

The vane pump may not be putting out enough pressure.

Lance, How did you determine accurately top dead centre so the dial indicator is on zero?

I run the piston up and down looking for the high mark then zero the indicator. Easy to do on the digital ones. on an analugue just look for the high spot in the normal direction of rotation.

No these are Standard Motor Company engines from England. Same supplier of the engines as the TEA and TED 20
