I’m a big Retrospekt fan. Sent them 3 Polaroids to repair. They fix them with love. Absolute love! There are few repair people I could give a higher recommendation to for any type of camera.

@@JustAnotherChris the point is they have the money the computer will be obsolete and thrown away in 6 months max
1000 is not a lot of money anymore except to a minimum wage worker
You are paying for the restoration mostly of the sx70 and the “I don’t have to fuck with this oil it clean it etc”
I could compare it with any device even a different 1000 dollar camera like the m50 or the m100 not sure if they are still 1000 but they were when they came out

I have had my Mint SLR 670-X for 2-3 years now. The only time I actually use the Time Machine is when shooting portraits or similar things. Otherwise the camera is in auto.
I do prefer the small camera body of the sx-70 over like a SLR 680. But I actually think that the sx-70 sonar is the ultimate Polaroid. Especially since you can add a power pack and shoot i-type film. And if you shoot indoors you can just put on a Mint flash bar.
    Cheers!

  • @franzrogar
    @franzrogar ปีที่แล้ว +2

For that price, I find much compelling to buy this: Polaroid SX-70 (~300$) + PolaStudio Power KIT (~300$) + MiNT Bar 2 (~100$), making a total of 700$, saving 300$. With that setting, you can use SX-700, 600 and iType film in the camera, and that you can NOT do it with the MiNT SLR670. EDIT: Also, you can remove the flashbar and the camera is almost like originally designed in size. The only missing thing would be replacing the split-view for the original single crystal in the first units.

I agree I like the somewhat uncertainly of what you might get rather than spending time using an exposure meter and choosing the shutter speed. Plus without being able to adjust the lens aperture and only having the fixed ISO of the film pack there will only be one shutter setting which will give you the correct exposure. And that may well be the one the camera automatically gives you anyway!

The 670 is definitely a huge investment but it's clearly there for a more professional crowd. My main issue with the camera is that they don't offer an affiliate program like they do with the Mint RF70 to get free film cuz if they did it would be worth the price! Sadly, the closest thing to the time machine we'll get is the open sx-70 program but that's invite only until they figure out how to make it available to the public.

2:14 "...half a second to 1/200 sec," I spy with my jaundiced eye, "1/2 to 1/2000 sec." 1/2 to 1/200 sec. would be sub-pedestrian for a 1950's roll film folding camera. Oh well, 'tis but a mis-speak," and the visual sets the record straight.

I love the idea of the Mint cameras, but yeah, the price stops me from seriously considering one. It's tempting though, but polaroid photos have limited use outside of the fun factor. Sure, they might be used occasionally in professional work, but I feel that kind money would be better spent on a quality 35mm SLR, lenses and equipment.

Their name, MINT, is well chosen as that is what their cameras cost. If only Fuji would bring back pack film, all our problems would be solved. I think I am going to the the LOMO instax back for a 4x5, its $134 now on advance order.

Your review of the SLR670x misses an important detail: the fact the the 'x' Time Machine also includes an X-sync flash connection port so you can actually connect any electronic flash system for comprehensive lighting setups. It's the only one of the MiNT SLR670 series cameras to have that capability.
I have an original SX-70 (my uncle's camera, bought in 1974, that he gave me in 2012), and SLR670a, SLR670m, and SLR670x by MiNT... the last further modified with a leather skin rather then the standard titanium (didn't like the feel of the titanium skin on my fingers). I use them all, regularly, and have to say the SLR670a (basically, a completely rebuilt SX-70 with a new meter sensor and 600 film calibration) and SLR670x are my favorites and make the best photographs.
The 'm' and 'x' variants both allow me to use either SX-70 or 600 type films: there are subtle differences between the two different emulsion speeds. Also, with the aid of a 37mm filter mount and the manually controllable shutter time, I can use B&W filters and get results impossible without filtration to control the grayscale rendering of different colors.
The question of "Is it worth the money?" ultimately comes down to what you value and what you are trying to achieve. The SLR670x is/was certainly worth the money to me and proves to be one of my most compelling cameras.

I actually suggest the SX70R/sx70 revelotion project... They design a new PCB for sx70, sonar and 680. Just replace the PCB, sx70 can use bluetooth to connect our smartphone and control by a application. Also can lock the camera, change the speed and lock the AF(only on sonar and 680).Yah just my opinion, I thought SX70R is better than mint670(the price is very cheaper than mint!!!!)....sry my english poor
