Lesionread, attracting, this makes the small transfer rod naturally want to poke out (to the right) of the device. The extruder cover on the right then will be pulled in or out by the filament, and the transfer rod will try to meet that position. For example when you add the filament, the extruder cover will move out, which gives room for the transfer rod, which then will move right as well, because of the attraction of the magnets. This will then flip the IR sensor. You can think of the transfer rod as acting like a button that tries to stay up and can be depressed, but springs back to the up position (because of the attracting magnets).
